Christy's POV

That following Monday, I decided to bring Kayla some food as a thank you for letting me stay over her house.

When she saw me standing by her locker, her face lit up.

"Hello there, what brings you here?" Kayla said with a wide smile.

"I brought you a breakfast sandwich and a caramel macchiato as a way of saying thank you for letting me stay over at your place this weekend." I said as I held up the bag and handed her the cup of coffee.

"Non fat milk?" Kayla said as she raised an eyebrow.

"Of course. I still know your order." I said while rolling my eyes.

"You know you didn't have to do this? Like seriously, it was nothing."

"It's just a gesture of courtesy."

Kayla took out the sandwich and brought it down to my mouth. "Want a bite?"

I took a bite out of the sandwich and Kayla started eating it. "I gotta get going to class but do you want to grab lunch?"

"That'd be great. I'll see you then." I said with a smile and walked away.

The second I walked into class, my friend pulled me aside. "You and Kayla are back together?!" Lindsey said.

Lindsey sort of left a bitter taste in my mouth after what she said about Kayla being bisexual and how that might have an effect on our relationship before we started dating but now that it did come true, I wasn't so bitter toward her

"No we aren't. What makes you ask that?"

"Well apparently someone saw you talking to her and-"

"Wait so just because I talked to Kayla means we're back together again?" I ask while making a face at her.

"Oh yeah well I didn't think about it like that..." Lindsey said while looking away, obviously embarrassed.

When I got to fourth period, I went straight to my desk where Kayla was already sitting and sat down in my seat. "Did you hear people making rumors that we were back together?" I asked while taking out my binder from my backpack.

"Wow that was quick. We were probably talking for a solid 3 minutes and someone already made a rumor for that?" Kayla said with a laugh.

"You know how stuff travels around in this school." I said while leaning back on my chair, annoyed that people in my school were so nosy.

"Well let them believe it so you'll be considered off the market." Kayla said with a wink.

"Because that's totally a good idea."

"It is, it'll get people off you and people to stop hitting on you and me"

"People are hitting on you?" I said in a slightly jealous tone.

Kayla must've noticed because she smirked a little before replying. "Yes just a few but don't worry I turned them down."

"Then why'd you go to boat with Jesse." I asked in a serious tone.

"Christy I-"

The bell signaling the start of class rang, cutting her off. Mr. Curtain began the lesson right away so there was no time for explanation.

During some point in class, Mr. Curtain assigned partner work so Kayla seized that opportunity to explain to me what happened.

"I don't know what came over me, it was like I was speaking to him, but I wasn't the one talking. I didn't want to go with him, I never wanted to cheat with him either, it was like I couldn't control what my body was doing." Kayla explained.

I stared at Kayla for a bit. Except I wasn't thinking or processing what she had just said. I was just looking at Kayla while what she told me sunk into me. Why did it sound so familiar before? I looked at her bright blonde hair and her baby blue eyes. I looked at her soft pink lips and then I looked back at her eyes.

I haven't looked directly in her eyes since we broke up. Well at least not for a long period of time. Her eyes looked so sad. There was this emptiness to it. I had never seen Kayla like this before. I'll definitely have to talk to her about it over lunch.

"Ms. Johnson and Ms. Owens, everything alright?" Mr. Curtin said as he walked up to our table.

"Yes everything is fine." I said as I looked at my textbook again and pretended to do a problem.

We actually did work for the rest of the period surprisingly.

"I have to run to my locker, I'll meet you at your locker and we could go grab lunch?" I said after the bell rung.

Kayla nodded her head and went her way and I went mine.

I walked through the main hallway toward my locker. I spun the combination and opened my locker. I put my books and notebook inside the locker and I closed my locker. Then I started my journey to Kayla's locker which was on the other side of the building.

Just before I turned the corner, I heard Maddie's voice.

"No you listen to me Kayla, you even go near Christy and I'll come out and get you. I'll beat your-"

"Maddie, leave her alone." I said, breaking up their conversation.

Kayla looked like she was revealed while Maddie looked slightly upset.

"Um could I talk to you privately? Sorry Kayla but you gotta wait here." Maddie said as she dragged me into the restroom.

"What the fuck?" Maddie said while making a face.

"What?"

"You're getting back with her? After she fucking cheated on you?!" Maddie said angrily.

"I never said I was getting back with her." I said calmly.

"But you're still friends with someone who stabbed you in the back and took your heart and crushed it." Maddie argued.

"Yes I am very aware of that."

"She's a bisexual. Who cheated on you with a guy. She'll probably do it again and fuck you over even more. I don't want you getting hurt again. Especially not by the same person. I don't trust her no more and I don't like her no more."

"Maddie, I really appreciate you looking out for me but I can take care of myself. And even theoretically speaking, I get back with Kayla and she hurts me again, at least then I'll learn my lesson." I said with a smile.

"I don't like it when people take advantage of my little sister. No one fucks with my little sister." Maddie says protectively.

"I know, Mads. Thank you for looking out for me. I don't know what I'd do without you and Steph." I said as I pulled her into a hug.

Maddie and I walked out of the restroom to find Kayla standing there waiting for us while on her phone.

Maddie walked straight up to Kayla and looked her in the eye and said, "You're cool now in my book, but the second you fuck up, you better run, Owens." She then left which left Kayla and I alone.

"Man your sisters do not play."

"I know. I'm sorry they can be a little too much sometimes. What did she say before I came?" I said in an apologetic tone.

"Oh you know just telling me to stay away from you and don't even think about being with you ever again. You know the usual."

"No threats?" I asked in a surprised tone.

Kayla laughed before answering. "She threatened to cut off my legs if you hurt me again."

Typical Maddie.

"I'm sorry that I have such overprotective, borderline psycho sisters." I apologized once again.

"They're just looking out for you. I appreciate that. I wish I had someone to look out for me like that."

Kayla had an older brother, but he wasn't much of a brother. Hell, he was hardly home with Kayla. The closest thing to someone caring about her is her maid, Margaret.

A few seconds later, we saw Jesse walk past us and stopping Kayla.

"Oh hey Kayla! I was wondering if-"

"Sorry Jesse but I'm kinda busy right now." Kayla said cutting him off and pointing to me.

"Oh uh, I'll see you later then." Jesse said before walking away.

I smiled to myself because that was a small victory to me-Kayla finally chose me over Jesse.

***

Lunch with Kayla was great. It was nice having a friend back and being able to talk and spend time with her like we used to minus the relationship part. Even though the relationship was no longer there, the connection between us still remained.

Now, I was at home and Natalie came over to chill. She had brought burritos with her so thank god for her; she even remembered that I hated beans and was sure not to put any in my burrito.

"So how are you and Kayla?" Natalie asked while she took a chip and dipped it into a tub of guacamole.

"We're okay. I mean like we're not what we used to be but we're friends again I guess."

Natalie put down her burrito and faced me. "I honestly am so afraid that Kayla is going to hurt you again. You deserve way better than Kayla you know? I know she made you happy and all but she obviously didn't care about you since she cheated on you."

What was Natalie trying to tell me?

____________

How do you feel about Christy's relationship with her sisters? Were their actions justified? Who do you like more, Maddie or Steph?

Sorry about the late update, my laptop was broken and I had to get it fixed. But I want to give a huge shout out to for helping me with this chapter!
