《Crossroads (Lesbian Stories)(gxg)》Chapter 19: Championships

Christy's POV
The coach gave us passes to leave at lunch the day of championships. Kayla wanted to leave with us but I told her no since there was no point, the game started at 5 and the whole time we would be going over plays, warm ups, and have mediation sessions.
The game was at the local university's basketball court. I was currently sitting in the clubhouse listening to music from my headphones. I was already wearing my jersey and shoes and I was pulling my compression leggings down so they would reach my knees. The assistant coach came out into the clubhouse and told us to head out to the gym and start shooting.
We shot around and did drills for about an hour and it was still only 3. School has just been let out and I looked around and people already started sitting down on the stands trying to get good seats. Then I saw Kayla, Steph, Maddie, Charlotte, and Katelyn walk into the court together.
I looked to see the coach wasn't looking and sprinted toward them. I saw that Steph, Maddie, and Kayla were all carrying posters and I rolled my eyes. Oh god.
"Damn look at my girl." Kayla said and she pulled me by my waist and kissed me.
Everyone said hi and it was a very quick encounter since I had to go warm up some more.
"Better kick some ass baby sis." Steph said as she ruffled my hair.
"I want 3 three pointers okay?" Katelyn said as she wrapped her arm around Steph.
"Break some ankles." Maddie patted me on the back.
I jogged back onto the court and we warmed up for another 30 minutes before the coach called us to go back into the clubhouse. When the whole team was in the clubhouse, he started speaking.
"This is it ladies. We worked hard all year for this. Let's not put it all to waste. All the sweat, tears, and miles that we ran finally paid off. Let's get out there and execute what we do best. Focus on the fundamentals. Don't rush anything and play smart basketball."
I stood up and put my hand in the middle for the break. "REBELS ON THREE. ONE, TWO, THREE."
"REBELS!" The team chanted and we ran out of the clubhouse and started doing our pre game warm up. We were playing the Dawson Spartans again and I'm sure they'll be out for revenge since we beat them in the regular season by one.
When it was tip off time, the whole gym was packed with people.
"Let's go Rebels!" My teammate Amber said as we walked onto the court.
The crowd was screaming and full of energy.
The ref threw the ball up and my teammate tipped the ball toward me and I caught the ball and dribbled straight toward the basket and shot a lay up.
The game was just back and forth like that for the first quarter until I started hitting my threes. I was hitting three pointer after three pointer and because of that, my team had an 15-0 run in three minutes.
The Spartan coach attempted to stop our run by calling a timeout by we were already up by 13. The score was 45-32.
"WOAH WE GOT STEPH CURRY OUT HERE." Maddie screamed from the stands.
That got the crowd worked up and during the time out, half the crowd was singing 0-100 by Drake.
"Then shoot a motherfuckin' lay up,
I been Steph Curry with the shot,

Been cookin' wit the sauce, Chef Curry with the pot BOI!
360 with the wrist, BOI." The crowd chanted during the time out.
The team smiled at the gesture and how Maddie could get a crowd hyped up so easily.
"Hear that Christy? That's for you. Just slow down guys. We're playing great basketball we just need to slow down. Start reading their passes and box out. We're doing great." The coach said.
The time out was over and we got back onto the court. The ball was inbounded and I caught the ball and called out the play.
"BLACK!" I passed the ball to my teammate and cut to the corner three point line. I was wide open and the ball was passed to me. I shot it but not before a defender tackled me.
The next thing I know, I was on the floor and I everything was blurry for a second before it got clear. I heard whistles blowing like crazy and the crowd screaming.
I heard the ref call a referee time out and footsteps running toward me.
"Christy?! Christy?! Can you hear me?" My coach asked
"Yeah. I can." I grumbled and put my hands to my head.
"Where are you right now?" My coach asked. Shit I knew what he was doing. He was asking questions off the concussion protocol to see if I had a concussion.
"I'm at the championship game right now."
Suddenly I felt myself getting lifted up and being carried toward the clubhouse. I was set down on a bed and a doctor came up to me. The assistant coach was by my side.
"What happened?" I asked as the doctor checked for injury.
"Well one of the girls tackled you and they got a flagrant foul called on them. There's only a few minutes left in the quarter. Oh yeah you made the shot too."
I smiled at the fact that I still made the shot as the doctor shined a flashlight at my eyes.
"You're fine. There is no concussion so if you were to play, I would suggest not putting her in until maybe mid third quarter." The doctor told us.
"No other injuries?" The assistant coach asked.
The doctor shook her head as the team piled into the locker room.
"Christy! Are you alright?" The team ran up to my bed.
"Yeah I'm fine. I can still play. What's the score?"
"We're tied 64-64 right now." Natalie told me as she handed me a water bottle.
I drank some of the water as I laid on the bed for awhile before walking out with my team to go shoot around. When I stepped on the court, I heard tons of cheers from the crowd along with a couple of boos.
I shot around and I was still making my shots. The buzzer went off signalling the end of half time. Not surprisingly, the coach put the backup point guard in for me and I sat on the bench waiting to be subbed in.
The other team scored 8 straight points and the coach called me to go back in the game. When I stepped back into the court, there was a mix of cheering and boos but I didn't care. I just had to get my head into the game.
The ball was inbounded to me and there was already a girl guard me and I dribbled the ball between my legs and then did a cross over to get her off me but she tried to stick on me, which cause her to slip and fall to the ground.

"OOOOOOOOOOH!" The crowd screamed as I passed the ball to my teammate and cut toward the middle. The ball was passed back toward me and I passed it to our center to make an easy bucket.
"HELL YEAH THAT'S MY GIRL." I heard Kayla shout and I toward the direction of her voice.
The other team dribbled the ball down the court and I read a girl's pass and jumped in the passing lane and stole the ball. I sprinted toward the basket and I saw a girl running next to me and I passed the ball to my teammate who scored an easy bucket.
The game went back and forth like that until the end of the third quarter. By the start of the fourth quarter, we were down by 4.
"Johnson! I need you to take shots. Don't be afraid." Coach told me and I nodded.
When I got into the game, I missed the first shot I took since the girl tackled me. I silently cursed and ran back for defense. I managed to block the girl who was attempting a fast break which caused for another score.
When there was 40 seconds left in the game, we were tied 82-82. I was passed the ball and ran the shot lock down until there was 30 seconds left. Since there was 24 seconds to a possession, I shot the three pointer and it swished exactly at the 30. Now if they tied the score, we would have 6 seconds left to tie the score.
The Spartans were only able to shoot a two and now there was 12 seconds left in the game. The score was now 85-84. The ball was inbounded and my teammate caught the ball and tried to shoot a three to seal the game, but was blocked.
I ran down the court and blocked the shot cleanly and the crowd cheered until there was a late whistle.
"Foul. Number 11, push. Two shots." The ref said.
"What?! I didn't touch her?" I argued. The crowd was booing also.
The girl made both her free throws and there was 6 seconds left in the game and now the Spartans had the lead. As soon as the ball was inbounded to me, the coach called time out so we could advance the ball.
"Okay so we're going set screens for Christy and she's going to move here for the three." The coach said as she drew up the play on his clipboard.
I took a deep breath as I took a drink of water.
We got back onto the court and I deep breath. I got screened by my teammates and shot the three pointer and the crowd was silent. Everyone held their breath. Then it banked in and everyone exploded. There was 4 seconds left of the game and as soon as the other team inbounded the ball, the Spartan coach called timeout. We jogged toward our bench who was cheering excitedly.
The score was now 86-85.
"Come on girls. We're 4 seconds away from getting a championship. Stay on your man and do not foul."
The ball was inbounded and one of the girls caught the ball and drove to the basket but missed. There was a whistle signalling a foul.
Everyone on our team screamed in fear and the other team cheered excitedly. There was 1.5 seconds left and the girl had to make both free throws to win the game.
"No pressure." Amber said in a monotone.
The girl missed her first three throw but made her second. There was a great sigh of relief as the game was tied. Neither team had anymore time outs left so we couldn't advance the ball. Oh well here comes the time for a hail mary.
The ran to the left then pretended to cut to my right and lost my defender. The ball was passed toward me a little past half court and I quickly turned around and shot the ball. The ball left my hand before the buzzer rang; it sailed through the air and the whole area was dead silent. You could hear a pin drop and then the ball banked into the basket.
Complete chaos. The crowd exploded as my teammates ran off the bench toward me. I stood there, amazed that I cried tears of happiness.
The ref called the shot good and the Georgetown Rebels have won their second straight championship.
The coach called for us to line up to give the other team high fives. The crowd was still screaming and some of the Spartan players were crying.
My team sat on the bench and waited for the championship ceremony to start. The commissioner of the league waited for the noise to die down before he started.
"I just wanted to say how amazing this game was. This game was probably one of the best basketball games I have ever seen and believe me, I've been around long enough for me to say that. I have awards for each team's MVP. The MVP for the Dawson Spartans with 19 points, 7 assists, and 5 rebounds, Ally Sessions."
The crowd clapped and there were some cheers for her.
"And now for the Georgetown Rebels MVP award. This player dropped 26 points, 11 assists, and 3 rebounds. She also scored SEVEN three pointers in this game. Please congratulate the MVP of the Georgetown Rebels, Christy Johnson."
The crowd exploded into cheers as I walked up to the commissioner and the Dawson MVP and shook their hands. We each took a picture with him and then another one with both of us.
Then they handed out the medals and we took a bunch of team photos. Finally, family and friends were able to go onto the court to meet with their players.
I saw Kayla running toward me and I smiled and jumped into her arms.
"Oh my god baby you were amazing." She said as she held onto me. She set me down and gave me a kiss.
I saw Maddie snapping photos of us and I hid my face.
"Maddie stop it."
Steph and Katelyn walked up to me with a small bouquet of flowers and hugged me.
"We are so proud of you." Steph said with tears in her eyes.
"My little Steph Curry did great!" Katelyn said while messing with my hair.
"You broke that girls ankles dude. Great handling." Maddie said as I saw Charlotte walk up next to her. She was smiling also.
"You did great Christy." Charlotte said softly. She was never much of a speaker but I'm glad she came out to see me play. I had to make a mental note to go with Maddie to watch one of her games later on.
"Come on let's take photos!" Maddie said as she held up her camera.
After what seemed like a million photos with friends, family, and teammates. We decided to go to a diner nearby for dinner. I told Kayla and my family that I would be at the diner and they nodded telling me that were planning to eat there also.
Steph drove us to the diner and I sat with Kayla in the back.
"You did so good babe!" Kayla said as she kissed me again.
"I know babe. You told me like 5 times already."
"She's telling the truth though." Katelyn said, who was sitting up front with Steph.
"Okay but when that girl tackled you and you didn't get up, I swear my heart dropped and I was so scared I was going to lose you." Kayla said as she pulling me closer to her. My face is resting in her chest and I smiled. Man she really did care
"I felt the same. You wouldn't believe the relief Steph, Maddie, and Kayla had on their face when you stepped back onto the court, Christy." Katelyn told me.
"I'm thankful to have such a loving family."
When we got to the diner, we had a great team dinner. We talked about all the memories that we had the past 9 months we trained together. Even though it was just 15 girls sitting on a table, I felt like this was my second family.
After the dinner was over, Kayla, Steph, Katelyn, Maddie, and Charlotte and I walked out of the diner together.
"Can Kayla stay the night?" I asked while I held her hand.
"Yeah can Charlotte stay too?" Maddie asked.
We both flashed cheeky grins at Steph as we waited for her response.
"I don't see why not. Plus we could all have a triple date somewhere tomorrow also." Steph said with a smile.
