"I... I don't know if I can do it, Rick."

You were standing at a fair hand in hand with your boyfriend and staring up at the large wheel. He hugged you from behind, trying to comfort you.

"We don't have to. Just because other young couples do it doesn't mean we have to."

You shifted your gaze into his loving eyes. He had his hands in his jacket pockets now and his lip everso pouty. He could read the fear on your face easily and gently pushed you away from the wheel, walking around the fair some more.

"I'm sorry Rick, if you wanted to go on it." He pulled you to his side and wrapped an arm around your shoulders.

"I really didn't want to. Those rides kinda scare me too." He chuckled.

"Really?"

"Yeah, heights don't give me an issue but sometimes you can feel the wheel creak. It just feels unsteady."

The rest of the time at the fair was fun. You consumed a lot of cotton candy and shared a lot of laughs. That must've been the perk for dating your best friend.

When you thought you were driving back to your place, Ricky had stopped the car on a dirt road. He opened the back of his pickup truck that he borrowed from his neighbor and put blankets in the bed. He opened the door for you and helped you up onto the truck. He laid down beside you and looked up at the stars, you did too.

The stars were shining brightly tonight. Each one glistening and there was always that one or two that were brighter than the others. It was so beautiful.

"Oh my, Rick this is beautiful."

"I knew you'd like it."

You leaned over and pressed a kiss to his cheek, "I love you."

"I love you too." He pulled you to his chest and held you close.
