You walked into the neighborhood malt shop where all the cool kids hung out after school. Your parents gave you twenty cents to spend in hopes you'll go out and socialize. All the large booths were filled and some kids danced near the jukebox. You sat alone at the counter. Draping your sweater over the back of the seat, you put your change on the counter. A nice young man came over and took your order. You smiled politely.
The teenagers around you laughed and joked with one another and you couldn't help but feel insecure. That was until a boy around your age with piercing blue eyes walked through the door. Suddenly you found yourself ignoring the other kids. He seemed shy, walking in with his head down. He looked up briefly once he got to the counter.
You sipped your milkshake and looked at the equipment behind the counter. You could feel his eyes on you. You couldn't help but take a glance. He sat down in the seat next to you.
"Thanks," he said while paying the man behind the counter.
"How come I don't know you?" He asked you. You looked into his eyes and shyly smiled.
"I'm new. We just moved here."
"I'm Ricky," he put out his hand.
"I'm y/n," you shook his hand.
"Well y/n, it's a pleasure to meet you." You could tell he was shy, you were shy too. The two of you sat in awkward silence. The rowdy teenagers started to clear. Once you finished your milkshake, you stood up from your seat and draped your sweater over your shoulder.
"Thank you for keeping me company," you said with a small smile.
"It's been my pleasure. Would you like me to drive you home?" He asked and you looked at his finished sundae.
"I'd like that."

This is the story of a researcher tossed across reality. Current update schedule is entirely sporadic, but I do commit to not dropping the story. I'm aiming for 1 small chapter a month at the moment.
