Toshiro tapped his pen rapidly as he stared down blankly at his paperwork. As usual, a frown was plastered on his face. However, he was was completely and utterly lost in thought for once in his life. He usually wouldn't let himself lose focus on the tasks ahead, but he couldn't help but daze off. He ran his fingers through his white hair absentmindedly, and let his mind wander.

He thought about many things- watermelon, his lieutenant, his childhood, guitars, his old Captain, butterflies, ice-cream, his Zanpakuto, carpet, comfortable futons, apples, Ichimaru Gin, drums, and... well...

How has L/N already adapted so fast? She's been completing her paperwork diligently, though she has only just been introduced to this world of spirits and Shinigami. She's completely comfortable around me and in her new home. She's even done Matsumoto's paperwork... Matsumoto's... paperwork... paperwork? Paperwork!

He snapped back into reality, and almost slapped himself at the thought that he was slacking off. He gaped at his sheet of paperwork, which was covered in dots of ink that he had added while he was thinking. He mentally cursed his quill, and tried to dab off the ink in the hopes that it was still wet, which was to little or no avail. He frowned even more than usual, if that was even possible, and stood up abruptly. He mentally noted to himself that he would need to replace that certain sheet, and set it aside, before grabbing his second watermelon.

The watermelons he bought from the market were quite small, but sweet, and had almost no seeds. He stared at it ruefully for a few seconds, then stabbed into it with his trusty knife, almost sad to see the precious fruit cut.

He took a hungry bite of one slice, but before he could even spit out the seeds, his door was knocked so hard that it shook.

"Who is it?" he asked, his mouth still full of watermelon. He swallowed it, seeds and all, and glared up at the door. There was no reply. He shook it off, taking it as a simple prank. He returned to his watermelon, before being interrupted yet again with a knock. 

"Who is it?" he repeated, louder this time. No reply. Usually he would have stayed in his seat, but he had a bad feeling for some reason. With a sigh and a hasty swallow, he strode over to the door and slid it open vigorously. He looked down both corridors, but there was nobody in sight.

He frowned, then something caught his eye. He looked down, and his eyes widened. It was you, his third seat, covered in gashes - some of which were gushing with blood, others barely noticeable. Your clothes were soaked with the red liquid. Toshiro stepped towards you, quickly sliding his left arm under your knees and his right arm under your neck. His heart racing, he flash stepped towards the 4th division. He slid into the barracks and ran over to the coordinated relief station, and was greeted by the leader of the 14th advanced relief team, Hanatarō Yamada. 

"H-Hitsugaya Taichou!" he exclaimed, grabbing you and laying you down onto a bed in a panic. He immediately began healing you, and Toshiro watched silently as several others rushed in and began to work on separate wounds. Captain Unohana walked in, and Toshiro turned over to her.

"Hello, Hitsugaya-kun," she greeted calmly, sending a shiver down his spine.

How can such friendly words be so... terrifying?

"I'm assuming from your expression that you have no idea what happened?" she inquired.

He ran his fingers through his hair, and nodded pathetically.

"No, I heard two knocks and she was outside of my door," he informed her, holding back the questions he really wanted to ask.

"I see..." she stated simply, and walked over to the bed.

"Would it be okay if I took over?" she asked. It was more of a demand than a question.

"Y-Yes!" stammered all five people which were healing you. "Of course, Taichou!"

She nodded in approval and began to heal you herself. The blue aura coming out of her hands was significantly brighter and bigger than her other subordinates. Toshiro impatiently tapped his foot, then almost fell over as a pair of breasts slammed into his head.

"Guess who~!" hummed a familiar voice.

"Matsumoto! Get off me! What are you doing here?" he growled, glaring at his busty lieutenant. She seemed to suddenly become aware of her surroundings, and stared at your body on the bed.

"Oh! How'd you know it was me? Well, some people told me that you ran into the relief room with a girl in your arms." she explained, a curious look on her face.

Jeez. Gossip spreads fast.

"Anyway, who's that, Taichou? Your girlfriend?" she asked. Her tone of voice told him that she was 100% serious. He glared at her, too worried about his third seat to be embarrassed. That didn't stop a light shade of pink appearing on his cheeks, though.

"What?! No, It's not! It's our third seat. You would know that if you actually came to the office, but you were too busy slacking off. Where have you been for the past three days?! L/ here has done all of your work, I better hear a 'thank-you' from you as soon as she wakes up!" he growls, glaring at her with all the anger he could muster up.

"Ehe... I was drinki- doing other paperwork, Taichou! I mean, I was helping a friend! They a-almost died! I was working really hard. U-Uhm, what happened to-"

"Go. Away. You're disturbing her. She's trying to recover." growled Toshiro, not taking no for an answer.

"Y-Yes! Okay!" she squeaked, and made herself scarce. At that, you opened your eyes and quickly realised that you were in a hospital bed. Your head was foggy, and dull pain stung through your body. You moved your head, and saw Toshiro standing beside you. Blue light was surrounding you, and you glanced over your own body. A lady with a braid facing the wrong way was the source of that light. You sat up, earning a strange noise from your Captain. A burning sensation rushed through your body, and you let out a pained shout.

"Please lay still," the lady told you.

"But I-"

"Please lay still." she repeated, and you nervously obeyed her.

"You're awake," your captain stated

"No kidding," you huffed. "Who are you, anyway?" you asked, staring up at him. His eyes widened a little, only enough for you to notice.

"You don't remember me...?" he asked, dismayed. You shake your head.

"Kidding, kidding. I meant to ask why you're here. Or why I'm here, I don't know... both?" you rambled weakly, closing your eyes.

"Right. Uh, how long have you been awake?" he asked you, ignoring your questions.

"About ten seconds, stupid," you muttered, feeling strangely annoyed.

"Right," he repeated slowly.

"What happened after I got picked up?" you asked him, holding back a pained groan.

"You tell me. All I know is that somebody knocked, and I found you outside my office door and brought you here," he answered, and you sighed deeply. You were beginning to remember all the events that happened earlier. Before you could say anything else, a busty girl poked her head through the door.

"Oh, she's awake! Thanks for doing my paperwork, (Y/N)-chan."

"So that's what happened..." you murmured, completely ignoring the girl who just walked in.

"Mhm!" she exclaimed. Hitsugaya Taichou nearly went insane. Seriously, he was so mad and worried, you should have seen it! He didn't get embarrassed when I called you his girlfriend! He just stood there impatiently and... oh! He snapped at me for disturbing you, and-"

"MATSUMOTO!" 

"A-Ah..." you bleated, feeling your face heat up. For some reason, the thought of him being worried about you was so... so...

"Stop exaggerating, Matsumoto. What happened?" he asked flatly. You shook your head, clearing it of stupid thoughts.

"Some people were jealous or something, and tried to kill me... and then..." you opened your mouth wide, stopping yourself from sitting up again.

Shimo and Tora! Were they real? Who...?

"Zanpakuto?!" you yelped out loud, and immediately covered your mouth in embarrassment.

"What?" inquired your Captain, frowning. "Zanpakuto?"
