《Ice Cold ~ Toshiro x Reader》3- Wha-

You looked around breathlessly, barely believing your eyes. You were in the 'soul society'.
"So you're not just some cultist. It's a real place," you blurted out, eyes wide.
The buildings are so old fashioned, too.
A white tower caught your eye, and you admired it silently.
"A real place? Nooo, not at all..." the captain muttered under his breath. His voice made you suddenly remember you were still over his shoulder.
"Excuse me, err... Hitsugaya Taichou?" you murmured nervously, fidgeting ever so slightly. You made sure to use his proper title. His voice was sort of scary, which you somehow only just realised.
He paused mid-step, then continued walking just as fast.
"What is it?" he asked reluctantly, clearly focusing on his quick steps toward wherever he was taking you.
"Could you put me down, please?" you requested with a scowl. He hesitated a little. His shoulders rose and fell as he breathed, calming you slightly in all the confusion.
"I understand the reason for your request, but I'm going to have to refuse. Head Taichou Yamamoto has forbidden I let you out of my sight," he informed you. You sighed.
"I get it... but do you really think I would run away? Where would I even go? Some people here are pretty crazy looking," you observed, eying a redhead with tattooed-on eyebrows.
"Besides, I haven't seen you yet even though you um... rescued slash kidnapped me. That's not very fair, you know. You've seen me," you added, knowing it was crappy reasoning. It's not like you had any other way to convince him, though.
This time, he totally ignored you as if you weren't even worth answering. You craned your neck so as to at least see what he was wearing. Confused, you blurt out, 'Are you wearing a dress?', but regret immediately followed. Panicking slightly, you tried to find a better way to rephrase your question but failed miserably.
"S-Sorry, it just slipped out or something?" you stammered, wincing in preparation for anger.
"No." he answered shortly and clearly. He seemed annoyed, but remained his composure nonetheless for which you were grateful.

"Any more questions?" he queried, exasperated.
"Yes, sir." you piped up. "I-"
"As I said, they will be answered upon arrival to the captains meeting," he interjected.
"Wow. Just wow. Why even ask me that if you're not gonna answer..."
You sighed and stared at the floor. This made you suddenly painfully aware of the fact that you were being carried over someone's shoulder. You could practically feel the stares you got, which irked you to no end.
"Maybe she's a criminal..." somebody murmured. "Is she dead?"
As you went by, you lifted your head abruptly, making them jump. You stuck out your tongue confidently, happy to see that they looked embarrassed.
"Hey, is- Ow!" you whined. "What was that for?!" you complained, rubbing your head angrily. He'd bumped you into a wall while turning a corner.
"What?" he inquired, sounding confused. You bit your tongue.
"Nothing," you groaned finally. You weren't sure whether he did it to shut you up or not, but it didn't matter anyway. You tried to ask him once again.
"Is that where you're taking me? The building over there?" you asked curiously, eyeing a fairly large building.
"Where the hell is 'over there?' supposed to be?" he asked, annoyed yet again. Or maybe he was annoyed the whole time. Either way, you didn't like it.
"Well, excuse me, but I can't really explain seeing as I'm in a random ass world hoisted over some random ass Captain's random ass shoulder. In case you haven't forgotten, this is basically kidnapping."
He uttered an exasperated snort, and tensed up his shoulders.
"I don't like this any more than you. If you knew I couldn't see what you were talking about, why ask?" he demanded. You could tell he was beginning to lose his temper.
"So sorry for trying to make conversation," you pouted. A moment later, he spoke up.
"Here it is," he declared. "I'm putting you down." You perked up a little, but stayed silent as he lowered you to the ground.
He was probably relieved as well- I'm fairly heavy, you thought. Without thinking, you took a step through the doorway.

"Oi!" whispered Mr Grumpy, pulling you back. "Just wait." You were glad that he pulled you back, but annoyed nonetheless.
"Who's 'Oi'? I have not heard of such a person," you retort, trying to sound poised and professional. It failed miserably.
"What...? I didn't even hint to you that 'oi' was your name. It's something you say to get someone's attention. Is everyone as clueless as you in the world of the living?"
He clearly took what you said seriously, and you groaned in defeat.
"Come in," boomed a voice, startling you. Unsure, you took a tiny step through the doorway.
How far am I meant to go? Is it rude if I step too far forwards? Wait, is it rude to be too far backwards? How many centimeters until it's too far?
Panicking, you look back for Hitsugaya Taichou for confirmation. He was gone, though, and in his place was a short, white haired teenager.
"Hey, do you know where-"
"Y/N, I presume?" boomed the voice yet again.
"Please, step forward. Do not be afraid. I am the head captain of the Gotei 13, Genryūsai Shigekuni Yamamoto."
"Y-Yes, sir," you stammered shyly, already forgetting most of his name. You lifted your head, coming to the realisation that there were several people in the room, their gazes all fixed upon you. Dizzily, you stumbled forwards and faced the person in front of you.
Geez, you have painfully long eyebrows, old man... you thought irritably.
"I'm well aware," he stated, seemingly amused. You looked up at him, confused.
"Did you just... read my mind? Is that a thing here?" you inquired bravely, feeling your face getting hot. The others in the room were either looking at you in amusement or annoyance. Mostly the former, thankfully.
The head captain raised a (painfully long) eyebrow.
"No, mind reading isn't among any of our abilities," he answered simply. You longed to cover your face.
I must have said that out loud... kill me now.
"O-Oh. Okay."
The following silence made you even more nervous than you already were. Soon, though, that silence was broken.
"I am sure you have an abundance of questions." he began. "I will answer all of them. Please, wait a little longer," he said. He lifted his head, and it almost seemed as if he was looking at everyone at once. You shivered a little.
"This human has immense spiritual power in her. I'm sure you all can feel it, too. I did not expect it, but... this human's reiatsu could grow to the level of a lieutenant, or potentially even a Captain."
Murmurs sounded out through the room, and the Head Captain waited patiently for them to stop.
"Aizen," he started, speaking the name with bitter resentment, "seeks this girl to make use of her power. How he plans to do so, i do not know. We are not aware of his true goal, but for now, we will be keeping her in Soul Society until this war is over. She will be allocated a squad temporarily."
You didn't really get what he was talking about, but at least you had some sort of explanation about why you were here. Somebody wanted to use you for something? The thought made you shiver in disgust.
"Y/N." he spoke evenly.
For now, you will be placed in squad 10, third seat under Captain Toshiro Hitsugaya," he declared.
"Does anyone have any objections?" he asked, a slight edge to his voice. Nobody spoke.
"Very well. Captain Hitsugaya, please remain here. Everyone else is dismissed."
As soon as he spoke, the Captains respectfully gave him a bow, before leaving the room. The white-haired boy still stood where he was, though.
"Excuse me, sir... uh, Yama?" you requested boldly. The new nickname mostly came about because you forgot the rest of his name, but he didn't seem too fussed about it.
"Yes?"
"Where is Hitsugaya Taichou?" you asked, deciding not to ask about the teen boy.
It must be some sort of spectator, or a servant, you figured.
"Wha-" began the white-haired boy.
Head Captain stared straight at you, bemused.
"Why, he is right in front of you!"
