《The Players BestFriend》Chapter 29

(A/N Im gonna be going on vacation next week so, I'll only be able to update maybe one more time after this. After that, It'll probably be a week and a half possibly 2 before I update again. Well........Here's chapter 29. Enjoy! :D)
"So..... what did they say? Can I take the tests now or do I have to wait?" I impatiently asked my dad.
"You can take them now. They said you're close enough to being 18 that they should be able to determine if you have cancer."
"Oh thank God." I replied, letting out a breath I didnt know I was holding.
"Im gonna take you to the doctor's office today during my lunch. You can either stay home until it's time to go or I can come pick you up from school. Your decision."
It would be nice to stay home from school, but since it's 4:30 in the morning and I'm already up, I might as well go.
"I'll just go to school. I'm already up and I don't want to fall behind on my classwork." I responded.
"Alright. Whatever you want." He replied, kissing my forehead. "I will see you at 1 then. Love you. Have a great day. "
And just like that, he was gone. When I need him the most, he chooses work over me. I feel like whenever it comes to life, I'm always second on his list. Here I am, possibly on my death bed, and he can only take time from his lunch break to bring me to the doctor. I need him, but mostly, I need my mom.
"Ugh! Why is life so unfair?" I asked to no one in particular, pouring me a glass of chocolate milk.
I sat at the table and ate my breakfast. I couldn't even properly stress over the huge test I have today because I'm too nervous about my test results. Please Kylie! Dont have cancer.
I rinsed off my dishes and placed them into the dish washer. Well, I guess its time to take a shower. Nothing like warm, calming water on a cloudy day.

"Hey, where are you going? The cafeteria's that way." Brooklyn giggled, pointing towards the overly crowded lunch room.
"My dad checked me out for lunch......Um.....H-He thought it would be nice for us to spend some time together." I lied, horribly.
I couldn't tell her the actual reason. She would go crazy. First, she would be mad because I didnt tell her. Then, she would start worrying and hyperventilating because I might have cancer.
"Oh...Well that's nice. Are you gonna be back to take Cody and I home?" She responded, totally buying my lie.
"Yeah. I should be back by the end of 7th period. We shouldn't take long."
"Okay. Well, I guess I'll see you later." She said, walking off towards the cafeteria.

"Wait!" I shouted, causing her to stop.
"Yeah?" She replied, facing me.
"Can you tell Ezra that I'll see him later and that I'm sorry I missed our usual lunch 'date'?"
That's what he calls it. Since we both are too busy during the week to go out, he pretends like our lunch break is a date. I think it's stupid but it keeps him happy so, why not?
"Of course. Talk to you later." She stated, shoving open the doors to the hog cage.
Everyone acts like a pig at lunch. I don't know why. The food is lousy.
I walked out towards the parking lot, looking for my dads dodge charger. He loves his muscle cars. That's one of the many traits my mom fell for. Apparently, my dad was the guy of every girls dream in high school. Honestly, I find it disturbing. When we go out to eat or somewhere public, all of the older women(and some younger) check him out and try to flirt. Notice I put emphasis on try. They fail misserebly. My dads not interested in any of them.
I heard a loud honk coming from the far left side of the parking lot. I cupped my hands around my eyes to form binoculars, but to my dismay, it didn't help anything. I guess I'll just have to walk over there and see if it's him or not. If I get kidnapped, they better be prepared because I'm gonna be one tough little ninja. Im not gonna let 'em take me without putting up a fight. By the time they capture me and bring me to their destination, they're gonna bring me right back. Heck, they might pay my dad to take me back.
Thankfully, I didn't have to show off my cat like reflexes because the loud honk came from my fathers second baby. He treats that thing better than me.
"You ready to go?" He asked.
"Ready as I'll ever be."
"Let's get this show on the road." He replied, pulling out of the parkin lot.
10 minutes later, I'm sitting on an extremely uncomfortable examination table. As soon as we arrived, they called us back which I am very thankful for. Normally, we have to wait for at least an hour.
"Calm down Kylie. Everything's gonna be alright." My dad stated, rubbing circles on my back.
"You don't know that." I argued.
"Yes I do. You'll see. Everything is gonna go back to normal."
I didn't respond. I knew I wouldn't win this argument. I'm preparing for the worst. I don't wanna get my hopes up and then get the godawful news that I have cancer.
"Kylie, we can take you back for blood work now."
"Uh....Okay. Can my dad come? I want him with me."
Before the nurse could reply, my dad interrupted her.

"Actually hunny, I've got to go make a few calls. It's for work. I'm sorry." He apologized.
I should have expected that. Of course he would still be working at a time like this.
"Oh. Okay. I guess I'll see you afterwards than." I replied, disappointed.
"I love you sweety. See you in a bit." He responded, giving me a quick hug and walking out of the room.
"Ms. Anders..... You coming?" The impatient nurse asked.
"Yeah."
Here goes nothing.

I walked out of the tall building smiling like an idot. I am in such an incredible mood. Nothing will be able to bring me down.
"So, what did the doctor say?" My father asked, ending his precious little call.
I pretended to cry. I'm gonna mess with him a little. Maybe this will help him realize I'm the only person he has left.
"Oh Kylie! I'm so sorry. I'll take off of work for the rest of the day so I can help you cope with this. We will get through this. Did they say what stage you're in?" He asked, holding back his tears.
"No. They said they won't be able to tell which stage I'm in because......because......." I trailed off, pretending to choke up.
"Because what? Hunny, you can tell me."
I looked up and grew a huge grin on my face.
"Kylie......You're scaring me."
"Because I don't have cancer!!!! They said it didn't get to me so I'm clean!!!! I'll be able to have a normal life!!!!" I said, now actually crying, but with tears of joy.
"That's great!!! I'm so happy!!!" My dad exclaimed, starting the engine.
"I know! Me too!!!! Now that I know I'm cancer free, can we celebrate and go to Q&Y? I could really go for a nice, juicy steak right now." I asked, my mouth watering just thinking about the delicious steak.
"I can drop you off at school and you can go yourself. I've gotta get back to work. Tom is going crazy because we have a meeting in 5 minutes. He badly needs my help. He's not good with stress."
"Seriously dad?? I just found out I don't have cancer and all you're worried about is work? I need your help more than Tom. I may not be sick, but I'm still shakin up about all of this."
He had a shocked contemplation written all over his face.
"I'm sorry Kylie, but I have to go to work. If I don't go to this meeting, I could lose my job. I can hardly afford the bills now. Which reminds me, you need to get a job. That was the deal from the beginning. If you want to keep your truck, you need to help me pay for it."
"Whatever. See you tonight." I stated, jumping out of his car.
"Actually, Im not gonna get home until after 1 in the morning and then I have to turn around and go back to work at 5:30."
"Of course. See you whenever."
I didn't even give him the chance to reply because I practically ran to my truck. I need to get some food into my empty stomach but I don't want to go alone. I need a friend right now.
I took out my phone and dialed my best friends number.
"Hello?" She answered in a whisper, probably trying not to get caught.
"Can you skip class? I really need to talk to you and I need to get something to eat."
"Im confused. I thought that's what you were doing........."
"Just come to my truck. I'm waiting for you."
"Umm.....Okay. I'll be there in 5." She replied, ending our call.
Keeping her word, 5 minutes later, she hops into my truck.
"Hey boo. Is everything okay?" She asked, worried.
"Yes and no."
"Explain."
"I will once we get to McDonald's. It's gonna take a while." I replied.
She nodded her head and we sat in complete silence the whole ride there.
I told her everything. From the thought of me having cancer to my dad abandoning me in my time of need.
"Why didn't you tell me you might have cancer? I could have helped you deal with all this." She asked, kind of offended.
"I didn't want you to worry about me. You have a lot of stuff going on in your life and I didn't want to pile my drama on top of it."
"We're best friend's. Heck, we're basically sisters. You should have told me. I could've handled it. We're supposed to tell each other everything, no matter what."
"I know. I've just been trying to ignore it. I guess telling you would have made it that much more real."
"It's okay Kylie. I understand, but next time anything serious like that happens, tell me immediately."
"I will." I smiled.
It felt great getting that off of my shoulders.
"There's a party tonight at this guy named Michael's house. You should come. It'll loosen you up a bit."
"I don't know. I just found out I don't have cancer. I don't wanna get drunk and make a huge mistake."
"Ezra's gonna be there......"
"Alright. I guess I'll go. I have this really cute outfit I've been wanting to wear anyways."
"That's my girl. Now, let's get back to school before I get into more trouble." She stated, getting up and walking out of the restaurant.
I followed her out and decided that tonight is just what I need. Tonight is gonna be a night I'll never forget.
