《Tiny Texas Time!》Baby!

(Warning: Texas and Spain have some deep talk. It's nothing extremely bad, seeing that Spain is talking to a toddler, however it might make you feel a bit somber, in a bittersweet way)

Texas woke up to his Abuelo walking in his room with a tray of breakfast.

"Buenos días mi águilito," Spain said. Texas smiled.

"Hellooooooo, is it my birthday?" Texas asked, knowing that's pretty much the only day he was served breakfast in bed.

"No, I just figured I'd give you some breakfast," Spain said.

"Where's papá? Dad? Aunt Maple?" Texas asked, while gnawing on bacon.

"They're at the hospital, your sister arrived last night," Spain said.

"Why are they at the hospital?! Is she hurt?" Texas exclaimed.

"No, no, she's ok... just... um...," Spain said, unsure of how to explain childbirth in a family-friendly way. "She just needed help getting out of the womb," Spain said.

"Ohhh ok! Abuelo? Why don't I remember being a baby?" Texas asked.

"Nobody can," Spain said.

"Oh... thats sad...," Texas said. Spain smiled.

"Well, if you want, I can show you some pictures we have of you when you were a baby," Spain said.

"Really?! Can I see them now?" Texas asked. Spain nodded.

"Finish up breakfast, and I'll bring you some," Abuelo said, turning on the Spanish dub of Encanto on Texas's TV. Yeah, Texas has a TV in his room, but only the grownups know how to navigate it, and they keep the remotes with them, so Texas doesn't accidentally watch mind killing things like cocomelon, 'calling [insert scary thing] at 3 am' videos, or, like what happened to me, Shane Dawson. Dw I luckily missed the terrifyingly explicit stuff and just saw his weird food fase. Man, internet drama from 2019-2020 amiright?

Anyway, Texas was having a nice time, and was watching Mirabel be a good cousin to Antonio. Texas thought it was cute how Antonio clung onto Mirabel's hand when he needed comfort, and how she gave him a cute little stuffed animal when he was nervous. Texas wanted to be the Mirabel to California, except instead of being her cousin he would be her older brother.

Later that day, Texas was sitting on Spains lap, and Spain was sitting on the couch, and they were looking through the pictures of Texas as a baby.

"Papá had a mustache?" Texas asked. Spain laughed.

"Mhm, he shaved it a bit after you were born, he thought it was too tacky," Spain said.

"There's not a lot of pictures of you holding me," Texas said. Spain sighed and nodded. "Abuelo? Don't you get lonely on the farm?" Texas asked.

"I do... but... it's better to be lonely than anxious," Spain said, trying to force a smile. Texas didn't understand why adults would try to pretend to be happy when saying sad things.

"What's anxious?" Texas asked.

"Scared... nervous, kinda.... I just am not good with people," Spain said.

"Oh... but you're good with me! And papá! And dad! And Auntie Maple! And Grampa loves you! I heard him tell you!" Texas exclaimed.

"You heard that?" Spain said, slightly alarmed.

"Mhm, It made me happy. I like that he loves you. I never had a friend say they love me... well, one girl in a daycare said she did but I think she wanted me to be her Prince Charming in her playgroup, and I didn't wanna. Saying 'I love you' doesn't mean you have to kiss... right?" Texas asked.

"Well... I guess not, depending on the context... like, your papá saying he loves you versus saying he loves your dad. His love for you is the love between a father and son, and his love for your dad is the love between husbands," Spain said.

"Mhm! So I can love people without having to marry them, which is a relief, because I have stuff to do," Texas said, making Spain laugh. "...do I have to get married one day?" Texas asked.

"Not if you don't want to," Spain said. Texas nodded thoughtfully.

"Can I marry a girl?" Texas asked.

"Mhm,"

"A boy?"

"Of course,"

"Can I marry apples?"

"Um... no," Spain said. Texas pouted. "You don't even like apples," Spain pointed out.

"Oh...," Texas said. They looked through the pictures a while longer, before Texas figured out another thing to insistently talk about. "Why aren't you married?" Texas asked.

"I'm just... not," Spain said.

"But grampa has a gramma, so why can't you have an abuela?" Texas asked. Spain sighed, before slightly pushing Texas off his lap, sitting him next to him so they could face each other.

"I'd rather tell you this is a straightforward way so that you don't think I'm trying to hide something from you... I still feel guilty that I snapped at you once, and I realize that you're simply curious," Spain said. Texas was confused, but still put on his best listening face. "Your abuela... she's... well, first, I never married her... she died long before you were born... when your papá was still a baby," Spain said.

"O-oh....," Texas said.

"I'm sorry, águilito... I didn't want to upset you...,"

"I'm not... well.... I'm sad that I never got to meet her," Texas said. Spain nodded.

"That is unfortunate... so, yeah, that is why I'm not married... I suppose I could remarry, however I don't really think I'll find someone new," Spain said.

"I'm sorry...," Texas said.

"No, don't be, I'm not exactly seeking a partner. Besides, I have my family, and that's all I really need," Spain said. Texas smiled and nodded, realizing that his Abuela was like abuelo Pedro from Encanto, and that Disney will only do representation films that hit a bit TOO close to home, because dammit if us POCs want representation we also have to face the generational trauma that comes with it. IM LOOKIN AT YOU ENCANTO AND TURNING RED (WHICH IVE HEARD FROM MY ASIAN FRIENDS ALSO MADE THEM SIT THERE IN SILENCE FOR HOURS AND JUST BE DYING OF DEATH BY SAD)

Soon, Texas was scribbling on a piece of paper

"Abuelo? When is Cali coming home?" Texas asked.

"Soon mi vida, probably tonight," Spain said.

"Tonight?!?! But I wanna meet her now!!!" Texas exclaimed. Spain chuckled.

"Patience, águilito, she'll be home before you know it," Spain said.

"Okaaaaay....," Texas said. While he waited, Texas went into his sisters new room and made sure it was comfortable and clean.

That night, Texas was playing minecraft in creative mode, because he liked building thingies. Suddenly, he heard a commotion downstairs. He rushed down, and saw the person he'd been waiting for.

"CALIIIIII!!!" Texas exclaimed. His parents smiled brightly and sat him down on the couch, putting his sister in his arms.

"Be gentle with her, speak softly," America said, as Texas stared down at her sister in awe. He knew she'd be small, but the baby in his arms was absolutely tiny. She seemed to be asleep, so he just let her do her thing.

"She's so small," Texas said.

"Mhm, most babies are," Mexico said. Texas nodded, however felt a bit uncomfortable. He wanted to feel loving towards the child, but felt oddly detached. Suddenly, she started crying, and Canada took her.

"Is everything ok Texas?" Spain asked. Texas realized everyone wanted him to be happy, and for a moment understood why adults forced smiles.

"Uh huh! Everything is fine,"
