Weeks had passed and nothing spectacular had happened. Ms Lopez and I had barely talked over the last few weeks and it felt lonely without talking to her. It was by my own doings since i avoided her at all times. I tried to be a perfect student. I always did my homework, i came on time and i never missed a class. I tried my hardest not to give her a reason to hold me back after class. What once was a small crush had slowly developed into actual feelings and there was no way in hell i was gonna put myself through that. Having feelings for someone you could never have is the worst thing.

I yawned and stretched my body. I rubbed my eyes and checked the time. It's my birthday today so Sam, David, Jade, Riley and I were going out for dinner tonight as a birthday celebration.

Next weekend we're celebrating in party style. Riley's brother got us tickets to some fancy club. It was a 25+ party but he all got us fake IDs so we could go. I was super excited to celebrate with them. Since it was some fancy party, probably filled with rich people, we had this idea to all dress up fancy and pretend to be rich for the night.

I got ready and put on a black tight dress. I wanted to look nice but not too fancy since we were just going out for dinner. Jade was gonna pick me up, so i quickly finished doing my make-up. I heard the bell ring so i grabbed my bag and rushed to the door.

"You look gorgeous." Jade said as i opened the door. I blushed. She was sweet. "Have you seen yourself? I love your dress." I winked and walked with her to her car.

"So, are you excited for your birthday dinner?" I smiled. "I sure am! I'm so hungry." She laughed. "I can't wait to give you your present."

"You guys got me presents?" I was surprised. I know it was my birthday but i didn't think they would get me anything. "Obviously dummy, it's your birthday." I chuckled.

We arrived at the restaurant and i could already see Sam, David and Riley wait for us. I stepped out of the car and walked up to them. I grinned at the sight of David and Riley together. They were finally dating and they looked cute together. I hugged everyone. Jade grabbed my hand and we walked inside.

I wasn't sure what was going on between me and Jade but we had slept together several times and we're now always touchy in public with each other. I hoped she didn't think too much of it because i sure wasn't over Ms Lopez yet. It just wouldn't be fair on Jade.

After we ordered food Sam demanded we were doing presents next. I was excited to see what they got me.

"Me and Sam first." David said. He had a huge smile on his face. I couldn't help but laugh. He pulled out a big box from his bag. "The honor is yours." Sam said. I quickly unwrapped the box. The biggest smile ever appeared on my face.

"No way you guys got me these Jordans???" I yelled in excitement. "You like them?" Sam jokingly asked. "Duh, ofcourse i do." I got up and gave them a hug. "Thank you so much guys." I said while walking back to my seat.

"Mine next." Jade said in an exciting voice. She handed me a small box. I opened it and my heart warmed when i saw she bought me a golden necklace with the letter 'R' on it. I pulled her in for a hug. "I love it so much, thank you Jade." She blushed and hugged me back. "Can you maybe put it on?" I turned around so she could properly lock the ends. "Here you go." She said. I winked at her. "Thank you."

Riley got me the perfume i really wanted. I was super grateful for my friends and i was beyond happy with the gifts they got me. Our food came and we enjoyed dinner while talking about our last school year. Time was flying by quickly and so was high school. We only had about 3 months left before we had to go to university.

After dinner we ordered dessert. I ordered a simple ice cream while David ordered something from the kids menu. I had to laugh at the sight of such a big guy eating ice cream from a cup that's shaped like a teddybear.

"Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Rachel, happy birthday to you."

I hid my face in the palm of my hands. They had told the staff it was my birthday and now they were all singing happy birthday for me. One of the guys walked around the table and held a piece of cake with one lit candle right in front of my face.

"Make a wish." He said. I had to giggle, even though i was embarrassed because the whole restaurant was staring at me. I closed my eyes and made a wish. He put the cake down and patted me on my shoulder. I watched as the staff walked away and went back to their work.

"You guys are unbelievable." I said. They were all loudly laughing at the whole thing. We all finished our dessert while joking around a little. I looked around in the restaurant, wondering who had just seen me get embarrassed by my friends.

My body stiffed when i made eye contact with oh so familiar green eyes. Just a few tables further was Ms Lopez having dinner with another woman. I could feel a knot in my stomach. The other woman looked like the one i had seen at the cinema a few months ago.

I couldn't stop staring at her. I tried so hard to avoid her and now we were both in the same restaurant. I looked away but i could still feel her staring at me.

I shrugged it off and turned my focus back to my own friends. We laughed and talked a lot but i couldn't get Ms Lopez out of my head.

We left around 11pm and i drove back with Jade. She asked if i wanted to stay at her place and i could use some distraction so i agreed.

The drive home was silent. My head felt like it was about to explode. My phone buzzed. I groaned and looked through my bag to find my phone. I hadn't used it at all during dinner.

I finally found it. I squinted my eyes, trying not to get blinded by the bright screen. I froze as i read the message on my screen. I could feel the butterflies in my stomach. She made it so hard to get over her.

Half an hour later we arrived at Jade's place. I wanted to stop thinking about Ms lopez but i couldn't. She consumed every thought i had and she had been doing just that for weeks now.

"Are you okay?" Jade asked me in a sweet tone. I nodded "Yea i am, let's go upstairs."

I got undressed and moved closer to Jade. She smirked. I pulled her in for a kiss. Her lips were soft and tasted like cherry chapstick. I smiled. She was a good kisser and if it wasn't for Ms Lopez that had taken over my thoughts i would have actually enjoyed it.

I felt Jade's hands slowly move down to my chest. I so desperately wanted to enjoy this but i just couldn't. "I'm tired, can we go to bed?" I asked while avoiding the two disappointed blue eyes looking at me. She slightly smiled. "Sure."

An hour went by and i still didn't sleep. I grabbed my phone to check the time. 2am. I looked over at Jade but she was already in a deep sleep. I couldn't stop thinking about Ms Lopez. I figured i would reply to her text.

R: Thank you! How was your date?

I put my phone away but almost immediately i felt my phone vibrate.

A: Shouldn't you be asleep? You've got class tomorrow

R: Can't sleep

A: Why's that?

R: Just thinking

A: About what?

R: Spanish class obviously, i'm so excited for grammar lesson tomorrow

A: Haha, funny girl. Get some sleep.

R: You too miss.

I felt my eyes getting tired. I put my phone down and closed my eyes. I wrapped my arms around Jade as i slowly drifted away.
