《Project You》Chapter 19

"I don't think i've ever seen you in just a skirt before." Karsen says as I put a few books away in the library shelf and I blink, looking to him to my side and his eyes are on my legs.
Hormonal fucker.
I cross my arms over my chest and turn around fully which makes him look up to my eyes, he smiles mischievously at me, "I like the your clothing choices Addy."
Oh? "What?"
"Your clothes always look completely different from the clothes you wear the days before, and you always look pretty."
You always look pretty.
What was with him and calling me pretty all of a sudden?
"Im an art major Karsen." I say with a smirk and he cocks his head to the side, "I wear hoodies, t-shirt and sweats majority of the time."
"Because you're also a boring football player." I explain dryly as I put more books into the shelves, "Well no offense, your choice of clothing is cute for a guy but my real personality is my clothes." I thought he always looks nice in simple looking clothes.
For example, his jeans were nice because they weren't skinny jeans which looked weird to me, instead he used straight jeans, and his sweatshirts although plain were cute with his Air-forces he used majority of the time.
Thankfully he doesn't bring up the cute comment.
"Your personality is just the word random?" He asks and I shake my head, "Creative I guess." I tell him as I put a book into the top shelf, struggling to slide it in, he moves between my arms and I blink at his back.
He puts the book in for me before turning around, and I tip my head back to look at him before I realize he's cornered between my arms and so I drop it down.
"I thought we could do something together." He says.
"Depends." I say simply, "You're too close by the way, my neck is gonna snap."
He leans down and when our faces are inline, noses almost touching, I blink.
That ones on me.
"Better?"
I look to his body, how he had to significantly bend down to have his face in line with my own, "How are you that freaking tall?"
"Im six four."
I blink. Im only 5'5. And I was wearing heeled boots right now.
"Holy shit." I mutter without meaning too and he smirks.
Our faces were still in line and he looks just as good up close, a few usually unnoticeable freckles over his nose now noticeable at this closeness.
His attractiveness makes me want to slap him.
I turn around, getting another book and taking it to its place, "Im not going anywhere with you, im almost done with another art piece."
"Why'd you start without me?" He asks.

"I enjoy working alone, and not in a mean way, art is my happy version of solitude Krist."
"Can I at least help you out with it?"
"You can but will I let you?" I ask as I go get another book, "Im a little bit of a perfectionist."
"Haven't noticed." He says dryly, which of course means he is being sarcastic and I look to him, glaring because he knew for a fact that right now I was resetting all the books that were all in wrong place because it irked me, which proved that I was indeed a perfectionist.
"You can start with your half and we can run it by one another." I tell him.
"Why do I feel like you just don't want to work with me?"
"Because you're overthinking it." I say much more gently than my previous words and he hums but doesn't push on it.
"Theres a carnival outside town."
I look at him knowingly, "Do I take you as a carnival girl?"
He smiles and that stupid single dimple indent into his cheek, "You take me as a haunted house girl, or better yet maybe a plane crash girl, do you like plane crashes Adrienne?"
I smirk at that. "I like all three actually Krist." I take another book and put it back, "I don't think I like how much you want to get me out of my house though."
"You don't have to like it, just say okay."
I roll my eyes at that.
"It could help us, inspiration and shit."
"Is Summer coming?" I as him, wondering if this was just gonna be us.
"Do you want her to?"
I look to him over my shoulder and nod.
His lips twitch, "Do you not like being alone with me?"
"Its unbearable, you're intolerable."
His smile falters, "I never know if you're being sarcastic or not."
I smirk back at him, wondering if he was serious or not, "I don't intend on making it any easier for you, this is how I am."
"I didn't say I didn't like it."
I almost smile at that but I try not to. "You'd make a good friend, if I want friends i'll keep you in mind."
His smile falls completely away and one graces my lips instead as I laugh softly to myself, quickly biting down on my lip to stop it when his eyes widen into the size of saucers. "You just laughed."
"No I didn't." I reply quickly.
"Oh fuck it took like almost three months but I got a laugh." He puts both hands over his heart, sighing dramatically and I shake my head, "Don't expect anything else from me goldie."
"Please never call me that again."
I grin, "Golden boy is not easy on the tongue."

"Maybe stick to Krist, or better Karsen."
"You like it too much." I tell him as I walk to get the last books in place and he continues following me. "True, so are you gonna come with me?"
"And Summer and Matt and Chance?"
"What if I was taking you on a date?"
I smirk at that, "Then make it a triple date."
I look to him over my shoulder and he's smiling at me, leaning on the shelf.
"Don't look so happy about it, im only kidding Krist."
"I know you are."
I look away, putting the book in place before I turn back and cross my arms over my chest, "Is there any way I can get you to stop smiling at me?"
"I do stop, like when im eating, causing im chewing, or drinking, or sex."
I hum at the last bit, nodding, "I'll get you food or a drink more often, unfortunately im not open to sex with you."
"Lets both hope that changes soon." He teases me and I shake my head. "Getting close to you was the worst decision i'd made, now look, we're moving onto sex jokes."
He grins, "Its called flirting."
I snort, part of me not knowing how to respond. "Then don't flirt with me."
"I enjoy flirting with you."
"Why?"
"Because theres no reaction whatsoever but you always seem to blush for me."
My eyes widen a little but hopefully its not too noticeable, "That is a lie."
He shakes his head, "Im being very honest actually."
I shake my head too, "I don't mean to." I walk to through the library to get over to the side where the counter was, "I don't like you like that Krist."
"I know, it's very humbling and also just to clear your confusion up, its just fun to mess around with someone who isn't gonna think im in love with her, which is you."
I snort, "It's that bad?"
He nods, "Its been a fairly odd week Addy."
On my end too but I don't add that in because he'd asked me to elaborate on it. Which I didn't really want to.
"Would you like to tell me so I don't have to talk?"
"Yep." He starts before sitting beside me as I pack my stuff into my bag behind the counter, "My ex thought I was in love with her."
"Horrible." I add in and he nods, leaning in on the counter and his voice goes softer as if we're gossiping and it makes a small smile tip at my lips.
This man.
"Then uh, some stuff, happened."
I know exactly what he meant. "Oh, ew."
He shrugs but continues, "I was drunk and she was okay with it, but now im fucking scared she thinks it meant more than that but she said it didn't so maybe I'm overthinking it."
He is definitely overthinking it.
"Did you tell her it didn't mean anything like that beforehand?" I ask him and look to him and he nods. "I did."
"Then stop worrying, you're the most anxious person i've met."
"Thanks its the anxiety."
I can't help my soft giggle at that and he hums, "Twice? So are we best friends now?"
"Not even friends yet."
"Yet?"
I sigh. "Oh Karsen Krist."
He smiles as he stands up beside me and takes a lock of my hair, tugging on the curl and letting it bounce lightly back to its original position, "You're so pretty Adrienne."
"You keep telling me." I say as I zip my bag up and he hums, leaning closer to me, "Have you ever had a boyfriend?"
I shake my head, "Don't plan on getting one soon too." I eye him from my side eye and notice as he rolls his eyes, "Seriously? Im not trying to date you, promise, I just haven't had a friend who's a girl in a long time, other than Summer but she's too busy dating my friend to talk to me."
I shake my head at him. "She told me you guys were friends since like, ya'll were born."
He nods, "Our parents were friends, we weren't best friends but when we got to high school we were closer, like siblings since we didn't have our own till they adopted her sister two years ago but it didn't matter, we stayed close."
I hum with a nod, "Thats cool, I don't remember my childhood friends."
"Not weird, most don't, I don't either actually just Summer." He tells me and I nod, putting my bag over my shoulders and he does too, having left his bag here before he came to look for me around the library.
We walk side by side to the exit until I speak.
"When is the carnival?" I ask when we finally get out the library.
"Tomorrow."
"Isn't tomorrow like ninety degrees? Why couldn't you choose a waterpark?" I joke.
"Waterparks aren't as creativity driven but I would like to see you in a bik-"
"I will cut your tongue if you finish that sentence Karsen Krist." I tell him dryly as we come to a stop near our cars and he snorts.
"So yes?"
"Time?"
"Early, its far out town." He replied immediately like he'd practiced this conversation a few times in front of his mirror.
"Till late?"
"Maybe."
"I'll text you my answer." I tell him, crossing my arms over my chest.
His lips twitch down a little but he nods, im just about to separate from him to our cars when he stops me when he speaks, "I- I really want you there Adrienne, so please consider it."
I don't turn back immediately, I think about my answer for a second before I look to him over my shoulder.
"Yeah, yeah okay Karsen."
