《Eden's Alpha》Chapter 28

"What are you doing?" Calfur asks looking down at me in wolf form. I don't reply and instead mind-link Isaiah about my situation.
Calfur takes a step towards me and I take one back.
"Is that you, Eden?" A sinister grin spreads across his face as he looks down at me.
"What are you doing? Just running around in your wolf form?" He continues to step towards me all while I continue to move away.
"You know, I believe I should have monitored you more seriously. You could hurt someone since you're so unstable in your wolf form."
"Stop" I turn suddenly as a voice behind speaks out.
Isaiah.
"Well look who it is?" Calfur chuckles. "It seems we have a dilemma going on. I am not being told the truth and Eden here is out of bed running around in her wolf form."
Isaiah moves closer to Calfur while I move behind him, not sure exactly what he intends on doing.
"Calfur," Isaiah nods his head, "I think you know why I'm here."
"I had hoped it wouldn't come to this," Calfur sighs, "I thought I could change your mind."
"So you knew? You knew I was lying?" Isaiah asks.
"I knew since you left. You bringing the girl, that confirmed it."
What?
"Calfur, I cannot continue here with your idea of power. It is not right."
"I believe it is. And if you don't agree with me, I guess will just have to settle this once and for all."
Calfur shifts into his wolf form and lunges directly toward Isaiah. I jump forward to protect him but I am shoved to the side by Isaiah before he turns into his wolf form.
*This is my fight, Eden,* Isaiah says in my head.

I nod to him and back away as the two powerful werewolves begin to fight.

"Here we are and here we'll stay until my mate is returned safely to my arms!" We stand in front of the entrance to the underground Rogue and I must say, I'm impressed. The Rogue compound is much more secure than I could have imagined.
No problem though, I think to myself, no one's stronger than my pack.
"Kill anyone who stands in your way! But remember, I want my mate unharmed!"
My pack begins to howl, submitting approval to my plan. Carter and Andrew stand next to me in human form, both of them cheering aggressively with the rest of the pack.
"Any hostages, Alpha?" Carter asks.
"A few could really be beneficial," I say, "we'll allow a few hostages."
"Last thing, this mission is just to get Eden. We'll come back in three days to finish them off for good!"
More howling from my pack at the idea of the end of Rogue. The reason why I'm having them wait is I don't want Eden accidentally killed. Better to get her out now and return with more firepower later.
My pack lines up outside the shack and I watch as Carter and Andrew go inside, setting up the explosives to get through the barrier. Once they're safely outside, my pack backs up while I countdown.
5-4-3-2-1-NOW!

Blood appears between Calfur and Isaiah and I can't tell who's winning. The anger between the two of them is strong and I can feel the power behind each of their strikes. I shift into my human form and throw on the T-shirt Isaiah was previously wearing to cover myself up.
Suddenly, without warning, heat and a powerful force comes down at me from above and I am thrust into the hard floor, pieces of concrete landing around me.

A heavy ringing sound pounds through my head and I am deaf, not hearing anything. I try to open my eyes but it hurts to try. I can't move, my whole body surrounded by rubble.
I start screaming, not even hearing my own voice.
I feel someone touching me and pulling me from the rubble. Painfully opening my eyes I see Isaiah with a bleeding cut on his head holding my limp body against his chest. He is shouting at me but I cannot hear him.
We start moving away from the explosion and everything moving around me becomes a blur. Slowly and surely, the ringing in my ear subsides and is replaced by my screams.
Isaiah looks down at me, "they're here, Eden! Can you stand?"
I nod and try to stand with the help of Isaiah, Immediately falling to the ground.
"Eden, listen to me. You need to get into your wolf form. You'll be in less pain and you'll be able to get away from here." Isaiah looks around, panicking.
I switch to my wolf form and stand, feeling much better in my new body. Isaiah also shifts and we both run and head towards where we suspect the rest of the people are. Fortunately, people were located far from the explosion. Only Isaiah, Calfur, and I were right beneath it.
*Calfur?* I mind-link Isaiah.
*Dead* he replies, not stopping.
We run until I see humans and werewolves standing around, looking unsure of what to do. I shift before getting too close, knowing they might think I was the enemy.
Immediately, in my human form, all the pain that had been gone comes crashing back and I fall to the ground.
"Eden!" I hear Finley, and see him lean over my shaking body.
"They're coming!" I rasp out.
"She's right," Isaiah stands slowly, "now is the time to fight. They're after Eden and we will protect her."
People all nod around me and I let out a cry, being in so much pain.
"Anyone who doesn't wish to fight can go hide in rooms, but there is no guarantee of protection."
"James, take Eden to the training room and stay hidden. The rest of you who wish to fight, follow me!" Isaiah speaks loudly and I feel James pick me up.
"I don't want to hide! I want to fight!" I say, trying to free myself from James' grip.
"Can't I go with Eden?" Finley asks, moving to stand in front of Isaiah.
"I need you fighting, you're one of the best," Isaiah responds simply, probably hoping Finley doesn't object.
With a simple nod, Finley agrees and quickly comes over to where James holds me and kisses me.
When he pulls back he looks me right in the eyes, "I won't let anything happen to you. Please stay safe."
I continue to pull against James until loud howls begin echoing through the halls.
"Attack!" Isaiah says, running towards the noise. James adjusts me in his arms and turns away, carrying me away from the battle.
"No, stop, PUT ME DOWN!" I say fighting against James. I start crying, knowing lives are going to be lost all for my sake.
"No Eden, you heard what Isaiah said," James says, continuing to grip me tightly.
Finally, as a last resort, I begin growling and feel my body begin to shift. James drops me and moves away as I turn once again into my wolf form.
"EDEN DON'T!"
I run, ignoring him, towards the sound of the fighting.
I'm coming for you, Baylor.

8 192The Scarlet Knight
Caitlin's life was finally going the way she wanted: Her family's restaurant was taking off, she got accepted to the school of her dreams, and her younger sister was finally in a better place. That all changed when her family's restaurant broke out in flames during a party. Caitlin's life is forever changed. She died, and unlike the ones who came before her, her fate has been predecided by the gods. Now she must battle her way through a series of unfortunate events, stay alive, and confront the gods themselves. The Scarlet Knight is a short story that takes place in the same universe as The Reborn. There are elements of Gamelit inside, but nothing too extensive. I write the Scarlet Knight on my phone, so there are grammatical issues inside. You do not have to read The Reborn to enjoy this story.

Title says all. Enjoy ^^
8 69The Core of a Factory
An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
