The worlds a dark and dangerous place

The chair I'm sitting on seems to be my only source of comfort.

Why would I admit that I like him?

Sighing, I curl my body up even more and place my head on my knees. "Troubled?" I look up quickly and glare when I see Marcus.

"Go away," I mutter.

"But I can't when you're treating my best mate like he's some sort of monster," Marcus explains, I roll my eyes.

"Did you tell my best friend what you are?" I ask him.

"Of course."

"Does she hate you like I hate you? Because that will put a whole lot of pressure off of me." I close my eyes.

He chuckles, "you really despise me, don't you?" I look up slightly.

"You just figured that out?" I scoff shaking my head. "You really are an idiot."

"Let me tell you how it went down..."

"Can I talk to you?" I ask the beautiful woman in front of me.

She crosses her arms over her chest, "you left me. You were a coward and wrote a letter without coming to me in person, I liked you Marcus," she says, I sigh.

"Please, let me explain," she looks at me suspiciously then backs up, I walk past her and sit on the couch.

Sam stands in front of me with arms crossed. Do I just say it straight up?

"The reason why I wrote a letter was because it would have been much more hard in person, I wouldn't of been able to leave. I left to protect you, please believe me," she bites her lip.

"I want an explanation," Samantha demands.

"Of course you do," I mutter running my hand through my hair.

"What'd you just say?" She asks with a raised eyebrow.

"Nothing," I quickly say then clear my throat. "Please just don't freak out."

"No promises," I sigh.

"I'm a..... I'm a.... I'm a...."

"Well? What are you? Stupid obviously," she says.

"I'm a vampire," I blurt out, Sam freezes and her arms fall at her sides.

As if knowledge and understanding comes to her she backs up slowly, I stand. "I'm not going to hurt you." I say.

"How do I know that you aren't lying?" Sam asks.

"I would never lie to you, pinky swear?" I smirk, I run to her and she looks at me in surprise from my speed. Sam sighs and wraps her pinky around my own.

"So you won't hurt me? You're fast. You're like Dracula," Samantha grimaces.

"Well I'm fast, I'm stronger than any man, my senses are heightened, I can compel people, I drink human blood, I can read minds."

"A lot to process," she mutters.

"Yeah well you're taking it way better than Shae is," I say.

"Well I probably feel the way she's feeling!" She exclaims.

"And what's that exactly?" I ask with curiosity.

"Afraid."

"Sam..." I mutter. "You don't need to be, I would never hurt you. Mates."

"Mates?" Asks Sam.

"You're my mate," I say hoping that somehow she will understand, but she won't.

"Yeah? We are friends," I sigh frustrated.

"In the supernatural world mates are your soul mate chosen by the gods. Mates are your everything, your other half like ying and yang. That's what we are, that's what Tyler and Shae are," Sam takes a deep breath, she tentatively grabs my hand.

"We can get through this.... together," I smile softly.

"I like you Samantha," she looks at me with curiosity, "like, crush like. Well, more than crush," I awkwardly say and scratch the back of my neck.

"Love?" Her eyes shine.

"Close," I whisper leaning forward, Sam leans forward too. This is the cliché moment. Our lips meet and it's like the world stops, like there is no problems anymore.

"What a great story, has a fairy tale ending. Marcus sweetheart, you should have learned by now that we are not in some fairy tale kingdom; we're in hell."

"The thing about you Shae is that you like the chase, you like to see if a man will fight for you," I raise an eyebrow.

"And how would you know that?" I ask a bit surprised of his accusation.

He laughs, "Shae, I've been on this earth for 900 years. I'm pretty sure I'd know," I scowl.

"You don't know everything."

"I know that you love Tyler," I snap my head towards him.

"What?" I snap.

"You. Love. Tyler. Ring a bell?" He asks.

"N-no I don't," I stutter. I don't.

"That's not what your thoughts are saying," I slap him across the cheek.

"What is it with you vampires and reading my thoughts?! I need privacy," I mutter.

"Just answer me, I want to hear it from you not from your thoughts."

Well what do I say!?

"Um." Um? "Okay, fine. Maybe I do, but he's a vampire," I sigh.

"Just because he's made bad decisions and isn't exactly the best supernatural but that doesn't mean that he's a bad person," I sigh yet again.

"And how can I trust... you?" He touches my arm and everything becomes blurry. I close my eyes.

The fire is wild. Raging. Everyone's screams can only be heard and the smell of blood over comes the smell of the smoke from the raging fire.

Marcus pushes a young girl against a tree and smirks, "dinner time."

She screams. Flails around wildly and begs for him to let her go.

But he doesn't, he chuckles and reaches his head down to her neck. Slowly. Torturously.

Before he can bite into the girls flesh he's pushed away, well flown. He crashes into a tree and falls to the floor, groaning Marcus looks up.

"Feeding on young children Marcus? That's low, even for you," Tyler speaks.

"I was just trying to enjoy myself, she smelled so good."

"You may be my best friend but if I catch you trying to stick your fangs into a young child's theist again then I will kill you myself," Tyler warns.

"What just happened?" I ask in confusion.

"It's a trick for vampires, if they clear their mind and touch someone. They can make them see visions of the past," he explains.

"So... that happened?" I ask in confusion, he nods.

"I would have been consumed by guilt for the rest of my life," I roll my eyes. "Shae just because we are vampires doesn't mean that we are heartless. We feel more than you humans will ever feel, our feelings grow stronger, you think it's so easy being a vampire but it's freaking hard!" He shouts.

"So you don't always turn off the 'switch' you can feel?" He sighs.

"Sometimes when a vampire feels too much pain that they cannot handle, they cheat. The switch keeping their humanity in tact goes off, once your humanity is off everything's fine with the world. Somehow, we always get back to our normal selves, humanity and all. We will feel more than you ever do Shae, remember that."

I look at where he's sitting, only to see that he's not there anymore.
