《Vampire King》Chapter two- Father

"Where'd you go last night?" Sam mumbles rubbing her eyes tiredly.
I briefly look up at her but then look back down at my phone, I'm mad at her. Very. Even though I feel bad for leaving her, something could've happened and I acted on impulse which was stupid because I was so embarrassed.
"Hello earth to Shae?" She waves her hands in front of my face, I look at her again with cold eyes then look back down continuing to text my dad.
"That's it!" She snatches my phone out of my hands and I glare at her. Don't you hate it when people take your phone though? Like, you have your own phone so use that not mine.
"What?" I cross my arms over my chest.
"Where were you last night?" I shrug pretending my nails are interesting when they're just plain.
"If you were a better friend you would know that," I say even though I am acting like a hypocrite; she throws me my phone and it lands on my face.
I rub my nose glaring at her, "how would I know?!" She exclaims throwing her hands in the air.
"Exactly! How would you know?!" I standup angrily, "you promised me you would stay with me but no you go and get drunk like usual, while red alcohol was being thrown at my brand new white frilly top that cost 50 dollars! If you were there you would have seen but no I was made the laughing stock in front of Austin Mayon," I state angrily.
Her face shows surprised, "I'm sorry Shae, I- ..... I don't know what came over me," she mutters walking towards me. "But you also left me, remember?" She cocks an eyebrow.
I shake my head, "I'm sorry too, I shouldn't have left because something could've happened to you." I whisper shamefully. It's important to forgive her because I did the same thing, I left her when I shouldn't have. And best friends forgive, if she wasn't my best friend I wouldn't of forgiven her so easily.
"Hug?" I smile.
"Hug," we wrap our arms around each other in our tight best friend embrace. People should be jealous of it, we give the best hugs out there; seriously.
But one thing I am jealous of is Samantha. Well she's a person not a thing .... obviously

She gets what ever she wants, when we are walking together all the hot guys go to her because of her perfectly straight white teeth, cute wavy blonde hair, sky blue eyes, pale clear skin and the innocent face. I don't really mind but sometimes you'd just wish you were noticed too.
Where as I have plain light brown wavy hair that reaches to my waist, brown eyes, pale skin, high cheek bones that are well defined some people say.
I'm not bad looking, but I just feel so plain sometimes. It's just shitty because everyone looks past me.
Guys would just walk straight towards her without a second thought and I would stand there awkwardly, not that I care.
Her family is rich so she gets everything on a silver platter where as I've had to work for what I have now. And don't call me a snob or something like that because I'm saying this.
It wasn't easy with my mum not around and my dad poor, trying his best to give me food and clothes then as well put a roof over my head.
By the time I was 14 I had a job part time- only worked there 3 days a week because I had school, I worked hard and I started early then finished late. But my dad is well off now, he got back in his feet and he's right.
That was kind of how Sam and I met, she saw me walking home after a long day of work. It was a Saturday and she had asked why I work it's for old people, I said because it gives me something to do which was a complete lie and she new that.
Flashback
"See you tomorrow Shae!" I wave at them and sigh walking out the door with my bag hanging on one shoulder.
Now the hour walk home....
I slowly walk towards the traffic lights and press the silver button waiting for the green person thing to go off.
Once it goes off I walk across the crossing until the other side, I see a girl with short blonde wavy hair jumping about with so much energy and looks like she's enjoying her teenage life.
I should be doing that too.
But no, I'm stuck working. Not that I'm complaining, it's for my father.
"Hello!" She chirps, I give her a small wave.

She looks at my work attire and her eyebrows scrunch together in confusion, "why are you working? It's for old people, your parents are meant to me doing that," I shrug.
"I.... I just do it for fun, it gives me something to do," I softly mutter, she scoffs.
"Work is not fun, I can see that from the bags under your eyes. Why do you really work?" She questions, curiousness blazing in her blue eyes.
I shrug, "because."
"Because...?" She trails off.
"My family's poor," I simply state.
She nods, "well we should be friends."
Flashback over
Sam has always been the more bubbly one, she never had to work so hard for something.
Like I would probably have to dress up and all the crap just to get Austin Mayon to notice me, but I'm not changing for one guy.
I want a guy that will like me for me, a girl with a weird broken past. I want him to accept me even though my mother didn't want me, I want him to accept my ripped jeans, baggy shirt and converse style.
I'm not going to dress as a slut and if he expects that.... Screw him.
I hear clicking and realise Samantha is clicking her fingers in front of my face, I blink.
"Let's do something since yesterday was terrible," she says.
"What did you do at the party?" She thinks for a second and is about to open her mouth but closes it, "I've got nothing. I really need to stop drinking," I nod in agreement.
"You do."
She glares, "did I ask for your opinion?" I shrug.
"Don't know, don't care. Seriously you are starting to sound like Stacey Williams" I shudder.
She puts on a disgusted face, "yuck." She grimaces.
I laugh and nod in agreement, "I know! I had to deal with her in my legal studies class," I roll my eyes.
"I'm so lucky that I don't have any classes with that rat."
"Indeed, you are."
She walks to the kitchen and pauses, "you seriously threw your shirt in here? It could be washed, haven't you seen that washing powder ad? It's like jet thing and it gets all the stains out!" She says mocking enthusiasm.
"I honestly don't know what type of powder that is," I reply. She grabs the white shirt out of the bin and walks to the laundry.
"I will try to get the stain out, no promises though," I shrug.
"Fine by me."
"Oh Shae," I look at her, she clears her throat. "How's your dad doing?" I give her a small smile.
"He's great! Amanda is treating him right," I mumble.
"You mean that step monster?" I huff putting the cut up Apple pieces in a bowl.
"She's.... Not that bad," she gives me a flat stare and I groan. "Fine she's only good towards dad!"
"You realise I was only asking how he was to see if that step monster is treating him right? He's like my second father," I roll my eyes.
"I know."
"So did Austin laugh last night?" She questions and I shake my head, "then what did he do?"
"He.... Smiled," I grin.
"SMILED?! You're kidding am I right? Austin Mayon does not smile.... He smirks," she shrugs.
"Well he smiled," I say biting into a cut up piece of red apple. Maybe she's over exaggerating things?
"Your lying," she states.
I angrily growl, "I'm not lying!" I exclaim.
"You are," she points a finger at me.
"Ryan whatever his last name is was the one who spilled it, then Austin looked at me and smiled," I say.
"You mean Ryan Woods?" She gasps.
"I don't know! There's heaps of Ryan's here, to me they all have ugly personalities which makes them ugly to me," I mumble to myself.
Luckily she doesn't hear other wise she will blow a fuse, it's scary when Samantha's mad.
"Ryan whatever his last name is, is a jerk. He was teasing me saying that I was going to cry, then Austin told him to back off," she places the back of her hand on her forehead.
"I'm going to faint!" She dramatically says.
"Faint, I don't care," I wave a hand in the air, she looks up from the couch and flips me off.
I place the bowl in the sink and turn on the television, glad that I only had two morning classes today.
"He seriously smiled at me."
