Chapter 12- What went wrong?

Kayan

The following morning, I sent her a morning text, excluding the fact that my parents were leaving for Aus today evening due to some matters that came up.

Also the fact that I had to leave tomorrow. My days here were over and I had work to attend to.

Funny how time flies while you are with someone you like.

She messaged back a good morning and was salaam.

I smiled widely and felt Yazdan move beside me.

"Why are you smiling like an idiot?" he asked sleepily, rubbing his eyes and sitting up

"Because I feel happy?" I replied shrugging and switching the light of my phone off

"Such cheerfullness in the morning is hazardous" he muttered and I sighed.

My brothers hated mornings.

Alot.

"GET UP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" that was ammi yelling at us.

I need to remind her we are at my apartment in Canada and not home. We have neighbors here who will begin to complain like they did for two days.

They complained to me saying some female in my house played hindi drama's far too loud.

I wanted to tell them it was not Hindi but Pakistani but oh well.

I got out of bed and entered the bathroom.

I showered and got dressed for my last day at work here.

"Are you sure, sir?" asked the manager of Palm Hotels, Vancouver, Mr. Martin.

"Yes. I know that when I leave, things will be a little hectic but they will get used to it. I trust you that much" I smiled at the half Korean, Half European man.

"Thank you, sir" he smiled widely and I nodded, brushing it away

"You deserve it"

with that he gave me a final nod and goodbye before walking out of the conference hall.

I stood there and stared at the busy city infront of me.

I was used to a life like this.

But to be honest, I always had that travel the world kinda gene.

My mom always told me it was dangerous to be out and about on different adventures but I could care less.

My teen years were spent like that until I was 19 and I had to take over since my grandfather (Who is the original CEO) fell ill and abba did not want to.

My phone's ringtone snapped me out of my thoughts and I answered it without even checking the called ID

"As salaamu-" I say but my mother cuts me off

"Was salaam, we going shopping so get yourself to Floreve mall now" said my mother and hung up

without a goodbye

She again called.

Guess she forgot something.

"Oh and get Amyrah with you" with that she hung up again.

wow mother.

I opened Viber and scrolled to Amyrah's name.

Her viber photo was a picture of her and another girl, both in hijabs and with ice creams, laughing away.

I sighed and hit call.

After a few rings, she picked up.

"As salaamu alaikum" her melodic voice flowed into my ears, making me smile.

"Wa alaikum mus salaam, beautiful!" I smirked, knowing she might have blushed over that.

"Ahhh so why did you call?" she dropped on point.

This girl!

"About that, Meet me now?" I asked her, twirling a pen with my fingers.

Where i got the pen from was still a mystery.

"Uhh, Let me check because I was busy uptil now......" she said and I heard shuffling of papers before she chuckled.

"What is it?" I questioned her, walking back to the polished tables.

"I happen to be free for an hour after 10 minutes- then I have a meeting with........ a client" she said and I shrugged.

"An hour would do" I replied.

"Who said I am giving the whole hour to you?" she questioned.

"But you just said-" I say but her laughter cuts me off.

"Alright, Where do we meet?" she asked me.

"I am picking you up" I said in a final tone and before she could protest, I said my salutations and hung up.

With a victorious smile, I walked out of the conference hall to the staff department.

I really needed to brief them before I left for Australia.

At exact 12pm, I stood at the front entrance of Rain Advertising, waiting for Amyrah.

The woman walked out of the building, looking glamourous as ever in her all time black suit.

I unlocked the doors and she slipped in, this time in the front passenger seat and gave me one of her heart melting smiles.

"Salaam" she said, putting on her seatbelt.

"Was salaam, you know you look cute today. Like really cute" I winked at her and her face turned a shade pinker.

I chuckled and drove out of the driveway of Rain Advertising.

"So where are we going?" she asked me.

"Somewhere warmer" I replied and she chuckled.

"So whats your favorite thing in this world?" I asked her casually.

"Books" she replied without hesitation.

"Ahh, who knew the powerful Amyrah Saleh was a nerd!" I teased her and she shrugged.

"I am fine with it though. I love books. It gives me something to hold onto" she smiled and I nodded.

"What else does little miss Nerdy Amyrah love?" I asked her playfully.

"Well........... I like Korean drama's, Korean music, sometimes I also watch other Asian drama's but Korean ones are my favorite" She grinned at me and I melted.

"You know you make me feel those zoo kinda thingi within me" I commented as I drove into the parking lot of a small cafe.

"Excuse me?" she spluttered, clearly taken off guard with my comment.

"Yes. Its true. Why butterflies, girl you give me the whole damn zoo!" I winked at her before putting my car on park and unlocking the doors.

As soon as the doors unlocked, she got off.

I shook my head at her behaviour.

She thought I was going to hide my feelings!

Aaahh Hwell nah!

I got off and wore my coat over my suit before walked towards her.

She did not look at me but she did have a small smile playing at her lips.

Progress?

"What is this place?" she questioned me, as we speed walked to the entrance due to the cold.

We entered the warm cafe causing the bell to ring slightly.

"Masha Allah" she whispered and I smiled at her.

"Masha Allah indeed" I replied.

We walked further in and stood at the counter.

The cafe was well furnished but with a touch of history to it.

On my right were some tables and chairs scattered with a few people around. There were pot plants at the windows from where light seeped in, giving it an amazing glow.

On my left was the same thing, except about three of four tables and a path leading outside.

"Hello dears. What may I get you two?" asked an old lady, from the opposite side of the counter.

"I will have a cup of............ caramel frappachino with lime cupcakes" she said and the lady nodded.

"And you sir?" she asked me.

"A creamy expresso and some brownies would do, thank you" I smiled at the lady and she tapped in her machine.

I handed her my credit card and so did Amyrah.

"I am paying" I told her and she shook her head.

"I don't let people pay for my things" She replied firmly and I sighed.

"Amyrah, I was the one who asked for this meeting, I am paying" I said in a final tone and handed the lady my card and taking Amyrah's card simultaneously.

I smirked and she groaned.

"Its nice to see such couples around" commented the lady, handing me back the card and I chuckled while Amyrah blushed.

"Can we have an area less crowded?" I questioned her and she nodded.

"Claire, please show this lady and sir to our patio" she called to a small girl with reddish hair.

The girl smiled at us and lead us to a medium sized patio with sofa's and beanbags and love seats instead of tables and chairs.

We thanked her and walked to the end of the patio near the window and set on one of the sofa sets.

"So what was it that you wanted to meet me?" she asked me, putting her coat and bag beside her.

"That" I muttered as I also put my coat on the sofa.

"What is it?" now she looked concerned.

"Mama, Abba and the boys, along with Kulthum and except Yazdan are leaving for Australia this afternoon" I said and she stared at me.

"This early?"

"Yes, something came up with abba's work so..........." I replied.

Abba was not exactly in business of Zaeef Industries. He, instead, was a mechanical engineer. He had his own garage and he was happy with it. He did help grandpa built this empire but that was until I was 19 and since then, It has been me.

"Oh........ and when are you....... leaving?"

I smirked

"Why? You miss me already?" I teased her and she laughed, looking away.

"No, not really" she muttered and turned back to me.

"So when?" she asked me.

"I am leaving tomorrow by the 5pm flight" I replied and she sighed.

"Is...... is it necessary........." she muttered, looking away again.

"To go? yes" I replied.

"Amyrah....... I know you are thinking that when I leave, I will forget that I am courting you....." I said and she turned to me with a smile.

A smile that was as fake as the chinese toys. (what? I am bad at comparison)

"Its alright. I know you will." she stated and I shrugged.

"I won't. I am coming back after I take care of somethings there. Don't worry" I said and she shrugged.

"I am fine with it"

Just then our order came and we set back.

"Don't be" I replied, sipping my Frap.

"That was mine" She stated.

"What was yours?" I asked her innocently.

"That Frap. was mine" She said and I smiled innocently at her before giving it to her.

"Share and care, Amyrah" I winked, picking up my expresso.

She sighed before she sipped it. That was after wiping the straw with a tissue paper!

"Honestly, I will be back" I said and she sighed, putting her drink down.

She stared at me straight in the eye.

Somehow, I found myself caught in her deep brown eyes.

"Lets make a deal" she said and I narrowed my eyes in confusion.

deal?

"What kind of deal?" I questioned her, sipping my expresso.

"You said that you want to court me and that you will be back-" she said and I nodded.

I put my drink down, folded my hands and propped them against the table so that my chin can rest on it as I listened to whatever she had to say.

"We both know that Allah has plans for us, right?" she said and I nodded again.

"And we both also know that maybe we are not right for each other?" she said

"Where you getting at?" I asked her and she smiled sweetly.

"Lets leave whatever this is and if we are destined to be together, we will meet soon" she said and I stared at her incredulously.

"Say what?"

"Honestly! If we are meant to be, then we shall be" she said, smiling.

"You don't like me" I said and she shrugged.

No answer.

"Honestly woman! Answer me!" I said and she shrugged again, looking away.

"I spent two and a half weeks courting you and I had planned what I will do when I return to Canada, and yet, this is what I get in return?" I said incredulously and she sighed.

"Look Kayan, I know this is hard but Its not easy for me either. I have too many walls around me and to break them takes time. I know you for only two and a half weeks, how can I be sure you will not leave me and go? How can I be sure you are not with another woman?" She said and I stared at her, again disbelievingly.

What the hell?

"Amyrah, You are my first choice, honest!" I said and she smiled.

"I may-be but I can also be the many firsts"

what she meant was not what I understood.

"Fine then, I guess I will have to pray harder for you"

"What?"

Her face held confusion.

"Ever since the day I met you, I made dua in every prayer that I get someone like you, then I made dua that I get you. I guess I have to pray harder now"

She stared at me and I stood up.

"I am done" I muttered and she nodded, standing up too.

She got the uneaten pastries packed and wordlessly, we got in the car and I drove her to work.

Before I remembered, mom wanted to go shopping with her.

I informed her and she merely nodded her head and walked away, with just a 'Allah Hafiz'

nothing more, nothing less.

Oh Allah, I thought I made dua for her. What went wrong?
