Chapter Fifty-Five

Sick

I sneezed into the tissue that had been kindly given to me by Scott, while he went to get Melissa. I ended up staying at Scott's last night to help him with setting up the nursery here at his house, which used to be Isaac's room.

But that's besides the point. Long story short, the dust in the room made my allergies act up, but Scott doesn't believe me. He is insisting that I'm sick and that he needs to have Melissa check on me to make sure I'm not dying.

I will admit, it's cute how concerned he is. I sneezed again right as Melissa and Scott walked into the room. I was still in my pajamas, snuggled into Scott's bed, even though it was thirty minutes till school. I don't think I'll be going today.

Melissa came over to me with a smile, sitting on the edge of Scott's bed while holding up a thermometer. I rolled my eyes, looking to Scott, who was standing in the doorway with his eyebrows knit together in worry.

"Scott, I'm fine. How many times do I have to say tha, that," I sneezed again, right into the tissue. When I opened my eyes, Melissa had her head tilted, "open up." I sighed but, obeyed and she stuck the thermometer under my tongue.

After a moment the thing beeped and Melissa took it out, "99.7. A little high but, it's nothing serious." Melissa spoke to Scott, probably trying to reassure him. He didn't seem convinced, "she sounds sick," he said. The worry in his voice was adorable and comforting. I think he'll be good at the whole dad thing.

Melissa sighed, "I'll leave the thermometer with her, so she can monitor her temp. Why don't you go make her some tea?" Scott hesitated in the doorway for a minute, eyeing Melissa and then myself before sighing and leaving.

I laughed lightly, "he's so sweet to me." Melissa smiled, turing back to look at me. "He loves you," she mused which made my heart swell. If his mother can see that he loves me, then it must be true.

I went to respond but, I got cut off by my boy moving, kicking upward on my stomach. I smiled sightly, "he's kicking..." my voice was nasly and you could tell I was either slightly sick or had allergies. "Wanna feel?" I asked Melissa.

She smiled at me, "sure." I set my tissue down beside me and moved the blanket down, revealing my stomach that was covered by one of Scott's t-shirts that barely fit, it was tight around my stomach.

I grabbed Melissa's hand and pressed it right over where he was positioned and just as I set her hand down, he moved, pressing against her hand. I smiled while watching her reaction, the way her eyes widened slightly and a small smile tugged at her lips.

Scott walked in with my tea not long after and Melissa excused herself, telling me to call if I needed anything. "What were you and my mom talking about while I was gone?" He asked, sitting beside me where Melissa was sitting earlier.

The mug full of tea warmed my hands and I could smell the faint scent of honey and lemons drifting from the cup. He made it just the way I like it. I shrugged in response to Scott's question. "She was just feeling little Stiles move." I brought the cup to my lips to blow across the top.

"Little Stiles?" He asked, raising an eyebrow while putting his hand on my stomach. By now he knew where each baby was located, Janey on the top and little Stiles at the base. I nodded, "until we come up with a first name, he's gonna be called 'little Stiles.'"

Scott laughed at that before dipping his head downward. I wasn't sure what he was doing, but my heart melted as he placed a kiss to my belly, lingering for a moment before sitting up and then moving to give me a kiss.

I put my hand up, using the other to steady the mug. "I'm all gross and sicky." Scott smiled, shaking his head, "I don't care." I rose a brow, but my hand dropped anyways. He placed a lingering kiss on my lips, leaving them tingling for more.

"I can stay here with you?" Scott suggested, the worried look returning. I smiled at him, he's so cute. I took a sip from my cup, the liquid burning my tongue but, it tasted amazing. "No, you need to talk with Derek. And you have the scrimmage today. I'll be fine and... I'll call if I need anything."

Scott hesitated, his eyes scanning me to make sure I was in tact and sure. Then he nodded and placed a quick kiss to my head. My eyes widened as he went to leave the room, "wait!" Scott turned around quickly, his eyes so wide I almost laughed.

"Don't tell Malia I'm sick. She'll freak out and come over here and she doesn't need to miss school when I'm perfectly fine," I rose a brow at Scott, only feeling satisfied once he nodded and said he wouldn't tell her.

I really didn't want Malia freaking out over this. I'm fine.

Staying home all day was boring at first. I was at Scott's house so, I didn't have my moms journals to read and I also didn't have my iPod. So, I was stuck to figuring out my own method of entertainment.

I took a hot shower, which was really nice, ate some pancakes, and then I did Scott and I's laundry. And all of that only knocked two hours off my dad until Scott would be home. So then, I paced his room, went into the nursery to swoon over the white walls, the crib that was off to the side and a grey dresser beside it. There was also a nice rocking chair in the corner.

Being in the nursery inspired me to do baby stuff. So, I washed all of the babies clothes and then folded them neatly into the drawers. The onesies and all the other little outfits were so cute. I even started crying when I looked at the little dress Scott had for Janey, it was red and white floral and had ruffles on it. It was adorable.

After doing that, I went back to Scott's room to take a nap. The nap didn't last long because, little Stiles thought it'd be fun to kick my bladder. After going to the bathroom, I decided to check my phone and the time, it was only 12.

That means three and a half more hours of boredom. It was stupid, I already felt better, my temp was back to 98.8 and my sinus' were clearing. I put my hands on my hips, looking around the room for something to do.

The room was spotless, Scott had just cleaned it and I had tidied up last night before we went to bed. So I couldn't clean. My gaze landed on Scott's gaming system. I furrowed my brows but went over to it anyways, I mean, what else was I going to do.

And that was how I ended up with a gaming headset on my head, talking with some people while we played Black Ops 2. "No, no, no! He's right there! To your left!" I yelled into the headset, moving my guy around a barrier so that I didn't get shot by the other team.

My teammate, lucibean62, sucked even worse than me and I'm a beginner. He didn't follow any instructions, and he kept leading the bad guys towards us. I looked down at my controler briefly, trying to remember how to throw a grenade.

"How do I throw a grenade?" I asked while backing my guy up and ducking behind a car. My teammate, trevor4evr, responded quickly, "left trigger." "Thanks," I said, throwing the grenade in the direction of where lucibean62 was getting shot up.

It all happened so fast, one minute, me and the guys were running to get the jump on the other team, and the next we were being ambushed. Smoke grenades were thrown down and I couldn't see anything.

"Do you see them? I can't--Ugh! They killed me!" I tossed the controller on the bed in front of me with a huff. I really wasn't good at this game. Laughter sounded from the doorway, making me look up.

Scott was standing there, resting against the frame with Stiles behind him. I smiled at the two and quickly said into my headset, "boyfriend and brother are here, peace out bitches." I had learned some 'gamer talk' from trevor and lucibean.

I turned off the game while they walked into the room. "Is this what you did all day?" Stiles asked, raising his brows. I shook my head, "no, I did laundry, ate food, put the baby clothes away, that kinda thing. What about you guys?"

Stiles plopped down on the computer chair dramatically, "oh, you know, just figuring out who one of the assassins is--- turns out, he's on the team." My eyes went wide and my gaze moved to Scott's. "You have to cancel the game tonight."

"Thank you!" Stiles threw his arms in my direction dramatically, making me raise a brow at Scott. Was he seriously going to play a game with a professional killer on his team? You've got to be kidding me.

Scott sighed, "this will be the way we catch him red handed." He explained, not meeting my direct gaze, instead he was looking right over my head and to the sides. "Oh, yeah, because catching him after he kills his next victim is just great. He's a professional killer, Scott! This is what he does as work. Not to mention the fact that you, Kira, and Liam are all possible targets on that field!"

Stiles waved toward me again, "thats, exactly what I said!" I'm not surprised, Stiles and I usually saw the same side of things. Maybe it was a twin thing? Or maybe it's just a sibling thing? Scott sighed, "I'm not scared. I defeated a pack of alphas--"

I cut Scott off with a glare, "you had to die in order to even find where they were at. Do you remember that?" Scott ran his hand through his hair, pulling at it slightly and looking up at the ceiling before turning back to me.

"I'll be okay, Victoria. I promise." His eyes were pleading at me, that much was clear. He was seriously ready to risk his, Kira, and Liam's lives in order to find this assassin. This one assassin among how many others?

This boy is stupid. I sighed, nodding my head and knowing that I wouldn't be able to change his mind with this route. "Fine, then I'm going to the game." I tilted my head with my words and narrowing my eyes, challenging him.

"No, that just puts you at risk too--" I cut him off with a sarcastic smile, "what happened to 'we're all going to be okay'? I'll sit with Malia and my dad. If you're going to that game, putting our friends and yourself at risk, then I sure as hell am gonna be there to."

♡♡♡

The field was packed by the time I got there, parents, students, and players everywhere. Still, though it was easy to find Liam through the thick crowd of people. The chilly night air bit at my nose and cheeks as I walked across the sidelines toward him and his friend... Max? Jason? I can't recall his name.

I stopped in front of them, and when Liam's eyes landed on me, he looked surprised to say the least. "Hey, Liam, can I uh," I eyed Max/Jason warily, "talk to you for a sec?" I stuck my gloved hands into the pockets of my coat, pulling it closer to my body to try and block out the cool night air.

Liam nodded after a moment, "uh yeah. Hey, Mason," Mason is his name, "I'll catch you later?" Mason nodded, looking from Liam to me and then leaving, "alright." Once he was gone I frowned at the boy. He's so young, only fifteen, and he's been forced into this world that he never asked to be apart of.

"What'd you want to talk about?" He asked, breaking me from my thoughts. I cleared my throat and nodded, "are you sure you don't want to sit this game out--" Before I could continue my question, he cut me off with a groan. "Why does everyone think I can't control my anger?"

My eyebrows furrowed and I shook my head quickly, "no, Liam, I'm not talking about your anger.. that's not why I'm asking." I leaned forward slightly so I could lower my voice, "I'm talking about the fact that there's going to be an assassin on the field tonight."

Liam looked wary but, he still shook his head, "I'll be fine." I rolled my lip between my teeth and nodded, "okay, kid. I'll be in the stands if you need me." I gave him a pat on the shoulder before turning and walking off toward the bleachers to find Malia and Lydia.

I looked over the stands, at all the people, trying to find the strawberry blonde or the brunette, but coming up empty. I sighed and started looking for my dad, he's supposed to be here tonight. I wonder where he is...

"Hey! Victoria," I turned in the direction of the voice. Ashley was jogging toward me, smiling kindly. She looked cute, her curls were pulled back from her face with butterfly clips that matched her outfit.

I returned her smile, "hey, Ashley. H, how're you doing?" I asked, referring to the last time I talked to her when she called me to tell me why she was crying. I guess her parents were getting divorced and it was really hard on her and her little brother, Jacob.

Ashley nodded slightly, her smile faltering for a moment. "I, I'm okay, I guess as okay as I can be." I nodded in understanding, "I can't imagine what you're going through, but I do know that it'll be okay. You'll be okay."

I gave her a reassuring smile, which she returned quickly. "Uhm, do you want to sit me?" I asked, motioning to the bench on the bottom of the bleachers where there was an empty section. Ashley nodded, her curls bouncing as she did so, "yeah. I'd like that."

♡♡♡

Ashley and I were actually getting along great. She was really nice and funny. Also, her laugh was so contagious, it was cute. We talked about everything and anything during the game, she asked about my pregnancy, to which I gave her the breakdown story: you know, brother's best friend, one night stand that leads to getting me knocked up, that whole thing.

"So, was Stiles, like, totally pissed when he found out Scott was the dad?" Ashley asked, her eyes slightly wide as she whispered so no one around us would hear. A smile tugged at my lips and I nodded, laughing lightly, "oh yeah, he almost broke his hand punching Scott in the face..." Ashley's laugh rang clear, making me join her while shaking my head, "it was horrible, I had to take him to the hospital and Scott's mom was his nurse!"

That just made her laugh harder. I rolled my eyes playfully and looked out at the field. I could see Stiles at the center of the field, ducking down and waiting for the whistle to try and get the ball. I bit my lip in anticipation, and as soon as the whistle blew, Stiles got the ball and ran forward.

I jumped up, "whoo! Stiles!!" He passed it to Kira, landing it right in her stick. My eyes widened slightly and I cupped my hands around my mouth, "go Kira!! RUN!" I swear I saw her helmet twist in my direction before she took off running down the field.

I was laughing and clapping as she ran down the field, dodging the other teams players as she gained speed. I could faintly hear Finstock yelling at her to pass, but she ignored it. She was almost to the goal.

"Go Kira!" I hollard as she then jumped and threw the ball, it went right into the net and I began cheering loudly. "That's my girl!" I felt Ashley jump up beside me, clapping along with me, but she seemed slightly sad as she did so.

I wonder what's up with her and Kira. I'd ask Ashley but, I feel like I should have Kira tell me instead. After all, I've known Kira longer. It'd only be fair to get Kira's side first.
