Chapter Fifty-Three

Benefactor

"'We're brothers now'? Seriously?" I asked, laughing slightly before biting into the burger that my dad brought me earlier, it was so good. My boyfriend had tried to give Liam the talk, but he just ended up saying a bunch of cliche and, quite frankly, weird things to the young boy. Scott looked at me with a shrug, "what else was I supposed to say?"

I swallowed, "anything but that." Stiles sighed, "okay, that's not why we're here, argue later, kay?" By 'here' Stiles meant between two busses in the parking lot. It was me, Stiles, Scott, Lydia, Kira, and Malia. They were talking full moon while I enjoyed my lunch.

"I'm not sharing my basement," Malia stated firmly as I bit into my burger again, leaning into Scott's side as I ate. Lydia sighed, "actually, it's my basement. And my mom noticed how you tore it up last time."

Stiles scoffed slightly, "alright, she's still learning." He defended Malia, and it was cute. They're so cute together. He rubbed Malia's back comfortingly. Scotts thumb rubbed over the side of my hip while he spoke.

"But, we're going to use the boathouse for liam. It's got support beams. We can chain him to one of them," Scott explained, to which we all nodded in agreement. Seemed like a good plan, save for one element.

Kira spoke up with raised eyebrows, "but how do we get him out to the lake house if he doesn't trust us?" I nodded with Kira, "she's got a point." Stiles looked at me and then Kira, "I say if it keeps him from murdering someone we just chloroform the little bastard and throw him in the lake."

Malia raised her hand, "I'm in." I choked on my food slightly, falling into a fit of laughter. I could feel Scott rubbing my back and his eyes on me, probably to make sure I don't choke. "We're not killing or kidnapping him." Scott defended the kid.

I nodded, finally sobering up, "yeah, the kidnapping thing didn't work out the first time." Lydia nodded, "then let's be smarter. We tell him there's a party and invite him." I nodded at Lydia's idea. It was smart. What freshman boy would turn down an invite to a junior party?

Stiles smirked, "so, you're going to ask out a freshman?" Lydia shook her head, "no. I'm done with teenage boys." I smiled slightly, good for her. "But, if we're playing a trick on someone... we'll have to use the trickster."

My mouth fell open and I nodded along with Lydia, all of our eyes going to Kira. Kira looked at all of us, an innocence in her dark eyes. "Who? Me?" She shook her head, "n, no way. Not me." I frowned at her nervousness. "Yes, you can do it, Kira." I reassured her with a smile which Kira's eyes softened at and she returned immediately.

Lydia tilted her head at Kira, "you know what they call a female fox? A vixen." I bit into my burger, eating the last bite as I listened. Kira is cute, and Liam doesn't have anything against her. It'd work perfectly.

"Me?" We all looked her over, even Stiles and Malia were looking at her with a nod of their heads. Kira's hot. Liam will be all over her. "You can do it, Kira. Be a vixen."

I sat on the table in the doctor's office, Scott to my left. He was reading a pamphlet from the waiting room that he picked up on our way back. I think it was on lactation classes or something? Who knows with that boy.

A smile pulled at my lips as I looked him over. Scott McCall was good looking, that much was obvious by looking at him. He had the face, the hair, the body, and the killer smile. But, he was so much more than that.

Scott was a highway-- on the outside it's seemingly everything you'd expect, nothing that would surprise you or confuse you... but once you get closer and are actually driving down the road at full speed, do you notice the cracks in the concrete where grass has grown through, or the soft curves in the road that take time to turn, the dips and bumps that you didn't even realize were there.

"What're you looking at?" Scott broke me from my thoughts. I blinked away my daze and smiled softly at him, "you. You never cease to amaze me, Scott McCall." He looked surprised by my blunt statement, but it was true.

I wet my lips, deciding to take this time to talk about something more... serious. "I want to take a birthing class and I need you to come with me." I twisted the cap on my water bottle while I said this, unsure of how he would take it.

He could either say no or say yes and be totally down to go with me. I hope he wants to go with me because, if he doesn't I'm going to have to ask Malia and she'll ask too many questions through out the class.

Scott hesitated for a moment before nodding, "okay. Let's do that... uh, when do we do that?" I smiled at him, happy that he agreed. "I'll schedule us into one of the classes! Ugh, this is going to be awesome. My mom ended up just getting a c-section with Stiles and I but, I really want to try for natural birth so I don't have to get surgery."

"I hope you don't need a c-section... I read the healing time is crazy long." I smiled at Scott. The more research he does, the more I love him. It's honestly so hot... the door to the room opened and Dr. Neil smiled at myself and Scott. Here we go.

I sat at my dad's desk, a bag full of chinese food in front of me. I was bringing him dinner when Derek Hale showed up with some arm thing. That wasn't going to stop me from eating my chow mein though.

My dad was looking over the arm gadget while Derek watched him, brooding per usual. I wonder why he does that, or how. He always looks so... grumpy. I slurpped up some noodles from my chopsticks, earning an annoyed look from Derek.

I just shrugged, leaning back in the padded chair. "I still don't get how this guy has no mouth. I mean... how, how can he eat?" My dad questioned and my mouth fell open. "That'd be horrible. I mean, no food?" Great, now I'm wondering how no-mouth guy eats. Does he eat through a tube? Attattched to the stomach maybe?

Derek's eyes widened slightly, "Peter didn't get a chance to ask." I rolled my eyes at his sarcasm. "He was fighting him off with a tomahawk buried in his chest. So..." My dad sighed, shaking his head, "yeah, and who runs aroudn with a tomahawk?"

I pursed my lips, "I might." Both men turned to look at me, raised brows and I smiled. "I mean, think about how badass that is!?" Neither one of them seemed amused at my comment so, I just sunk back in my chair and went back to eating.

My embarrassment was short lived though as Parrish walked in. "I carried one for IED removal in Afghanistan." I sat up and motioned to Parrish with a smirk, "see, badass." Still, no amusement. Wow, tough. crowd.

Parrish walked further into the office, "it's military. And so is that," he motioned toward the arm thing. Derek shared a look with my dad, "do you know what it's used for?" Parrish took the arm band and began inspecting it.

"Well, this one looks like it's been modified." Parrish frowned and looked up at my dad curiously. I slurped on my noodles while watching the scene before me. It was like a movie or something, the way my dad shared a look with Derek and Derek just nodded. "Tell us everything you know."

This is about to get interesting.

I shoveled some chicken into my mouth, the sweet and spicy taste was otherworldly. Parrish was sitting at the desk with a computer in front of him while Derek, my dad, and I observed from the sidelines. The computer screen had a bunch of numbers and symbols that I couldn't translate but, I recognized them as some form of code.

Like the math notes Lydia gave Malia...

"Okay, I think I got an IP address," Parrish spoke up after a moment of suspense. I was quick to lean forward so I could look at the computer screen, setting my chicken on the filing cabinet behind me. "That means we can find him, right?" My dad asked, looking at the screen.

Parrish nodded, clicking a few more keys. "Definitely. Especially if..." The arm contraption twisted as Parrish hit a button. A metallic sound emitting from it as the fingers twitched. My eyes widened and I shared a quick look with Derek, who looked just as curious as myself.

"What was that?" Derek asked. Parrish didn't respond, instead saying, "I think I found a message." I looked from the hand to the computer where the white writing stood out against the black background. The bottom line read 'D BENEFACTOR:' "Does anybody recognize the handle: Benefactor?"

After a moment, there was more added to it, 'MONEY TRANSFERRED' My eyebrows furrowed and I tilted my head, trying to make sense of it. Money transferred? From where and who was the benefactor? "Money transferred. What does that mean?" Derek voiced my question.

The pieces were slowly coming together in my head. The string of murders, the hit on Derek after Peter was attacked, the title 'Benefactor', the money... "That means this guy is not just a killer." My dad stated, straightening his back.

My eyes went wide, "it's an assassin." My dad nodded glumly. Great. As if werewolves and monsters weren't enough for Beacon Hills, now we have our very own serial killer.

"I wish I had a closet computer like Cher," I mused while leaning against my giant stack of pillows in the living room. The credits for Clueless were playing on the t.v. and my computer was propped in front of me with none other than Danny Mahealani.

He looked good, with his messy black hair and tanned skin. I wouldn't be surprised if he was getting all the guys in Texas to move over to his team. Danny's hot, in a charming kinda way. He laughed lightly at my comment, "you wouldn't use it. You wear the same ten outfits."

I rolled my eyes, "'as if.'" I quoted, and immediately laughed afterwards. "No, you're probably right. I'd be too lazy to match an outfit... even if it was digital." A comfortable silence fell between us as I looked him over. I missed him so much. I hated that Danny was gone, so far away.

"I tried to paint the twins' room the other day," I cut off my inner monologue of sadness. I really didn't want to cry tonight. Especially not with Danny on the phone, he'd never let me live it down.

Danny sat up slightly on his bed, raising his brows. "Tried to?" I nodded, rolling my eyes as I spoke. "Yeah, I got caught by the Sheriff. It's not a big deal though. My dad finished the paining with me last weekend and Scott and Stiles are supposed to help me set up cribs tomorrow. Ugh, I'm so excited!"

"You'll have to send me photos when it's all done." I nodded enthusiastically, about to go on a spout about how much I missed having him here but, he looked off to the left and laughed at something as a voice cut through the room. It was masculine and I instantly knew I wasn't wanted.

I smirked at my friend as he turned back to me, "have fun, Danny. Love ya!" I blew him a kiss, which he returned before we ended the call. It was nice talking with Danny, it took my mind off everything for a moment.

But, now I'm back. The serial killer and Scott's beta fresh on my mind. Ugh, no, I can't think about this stuff right now. I need to distract myself, read a book or something...

Or something. My eyes glanced over to the garage door and I bit my lip, contemplating.

Something like, my moms journals.

With a breath of courage, I made my way out to the garage. The door creaked loudly on its hinges, making me shudder at the volume of the sound. Goosebumps rose on my skin as my bare feet touched the ice cold cement floor, even through my socks I could feel the heat being sucked from my body as my toes went numb.

The boxes were still piled like how they were the last time, and I knew they hadn't been touched by anyone except myself. I bit my lip as I padded over to the boxes, pulling out the first book I touched.

The black binding was worn, the spine cracked from use. I frowned, how many times did she visit this journal? I let out a breath, turning back for the house. There's only one way to find out.
