Chapter Twenty Seven
||KIT||
Masky had said there was something we needed to do first before we found Mason's whereabouts so he had Amy pull up outside LJ's shop on the way back.
They continued to wait in the car while we entered the familiar sweet-smelling, strangely designed interior of the shop.
This time LJ was just exiting the back room, the beaded curtain jingling as his lithe frame came into view.
"Oh, guests!" He exclaimed, his sharp teeth glimmering under the overhead lights as he gave a sinister smile.
I smiled back at him and I noticed the way his eyes were drawn to the marks on me, his smile widening ever so much.
"Oh, it's you, morsel! Delighted to see you again."
"Likewise," I returned, smiling shyly and LJ's gaze lingered on the bruises on my neck before he turned to Masky.
"What can I do for you?"
"We need a mask for her," he spoke up simply, "something like mine if you can find it."
"Ah, I see," the monochrome clown stroked his bare chin in thought before snapping his long clawlike fingers, "I have just the one!"
He disappeared into the room again and I started to look around the shop as we waited, trailing my fingers over the miniature carvings that were so extremely detailed it made me wonder if LJ had done them himself.
I couldn't figure out what the medium was until I stopped before a glass display case to see a chair made entirely out of bones.
I swallowed and was about to back away when I felt a presence behind me. I turned to see Masky looking at the chair as well.
"Are those-- human bones?" I asked, to which he nodded.
Looking around I realised everything in the shop was made out of the same material and it made my skin prickle.
LJ returned soon after carrying something white in his grasp. He offered it to me and as I took it I realised it was a pristine white mask.
It had no features that stood out, save for the two eyeholes.
He was waiting expectantly as I ran my fingers over the smooth plain material that shimmered, wondering what it was made out of before I put it over my face, securing the band around my head.
"Perfect," I heard Masky speak as I looked around the shop through the eyeholes for some kind of mirror. I spotted one and went over to look at myself, brushing the pads of my fingers over the mask gently.
"I like it," I said to LJ and he beamed.
"I'm glad you do."
"We'll be going now,"Masky announced after a few seconds, "maybe we'll come see you some other time."
"I look forward to it," LJ grinned before he held a hand out to me, filled with an assortment of sweets, "see you soon, Doll."
I smiled warmly at him and picked out one of the lollipops with a plain yellow wrapper before saying a quick thanks and waving goodbye.
We left the shop and I pushed the mask up onto my head as we walked back to the car, popping the lollipop into my mouth.
"It really suits you," Masky spoke and I looked over at him, his own mask hiding his face.

"I guess but don't really see why I need it."
He wrapped an arm around my waist and pulled me closer, "maybe right now you don't."
I only hummed in response.
We got in the car and were on our way once again. It only took us about thirty minutes to make it into town and we weren't sure where exactly we'd find Mason so we decided to check his house first since it made the most sense.
His house was on the outskirts of town and as we drove by once Masky noticed there was an unmarked cop car across the street from his house.
Considering how paranoid Mason had been last time we met it made sense that he'd ask for protection from the police.
We decided to go back at nightfall when it would be easier to make moves and Amy drove us back to her place, letting us in with a flourish.
Her family was rich, like- rich rich and I still couldn't understand why she preferred to hang out at my house instead of at her place all these years.
She was an only child and her parents were hardly ever around so I suppose my chaotic household felt more like a family to her than her own.
As we crept up the stairs to her bedroom she giggled, "I can't believe I'm sneaking three killers into my fucking house."
I shook my head with a slight laugh and opened the door to her bedroom that was too big for one person alone.
When everyone was inside she flopped onto the bed and pulled out her phone.
Toby had already started fidgeting with her belongings while Hoodie strationed himself by the door.
Did he ever put his guard down?
"I'm ordering food, what you guys want?" Amy asked, looking up from her phone.
I joined her on the bed while Masky made himself comfortable on one of the beanbag chairs across the room.
After we made our orders I watched Toby switch Amy's console on, scrolling through the many games she had installed before my gaze was drawn to Masky again.
He hadn't moved since he sat down and I swallowed as I realised he was looking straight at me.
I looked away quickly, trying to get my mind to focus on something else. Anything else.
Anything but what had transpired between us over the course of the last 24 hours.
I guess it was inevitable. I was drawn to him and he had always expressed an interest in me, for some reason.
Butterflies danced in my tummy as I remembered the way his hands had gripped my neck, the way his face looked when he was deep inside me, the things he'd said to me.
I squeezed my legs together to ease the buildup of tension between my legs.
If anyone were to look into this room right now they would probably just see some teenagers hanging out but what they wouldn't know was each of us had taken a life. Some of us even, had taken multiple and were planning on taking more.
Tonight I'd have to do something about Mason.
The thought made me sick to my stomach.
I didn't want to do it but if my life were to ever go back to normal I had to.
It was a means to an end or new beginning per se.

When the food arrived Amy left the room to go collect them and I watched Toby as he played Mortal Combat, grinning in excitement at the graphic violence on screen.
Amy returned with our orders sometime later and everyone got to devouring their food.
It had been a while since I'd actually eaten some sensible food and I almost moaned as I took my first bite of the burger in my grasp.
If killing Mason meant I could continue to eat food this good then maybe it was worth it afterall.
I scoffed at the direction of my thoughts and stole a glance at Amy who was picking at Toby's fries.
What an interesting bunch.
Once I was done eating I excused myself so I could use the bathroom.
When I returned Masky and Toby were gone.
I flopped onto the bed with Amy again and sat with my hands splayed flat against the covers behind me as I looked at Hoodie, stationary by the door.
"Where'd the other two go?" I asked.
"They said they were gonna scope out the area before tonight so things can go smoothly."
"Why isn't he with them?" I asked, gesturing to Hoodie who seemed to be staring straight at us.
Amy shrugged, "no idea."
"Maybe he wanted to keep an eye on you."
I watched as Amy got to her feet, making her way over to Hoodie.
She was tall but he still towered over her, his broad shoulders heaving as he looked down at her.
"You do know there's nothing here you need to protect me from, right?" She asked, hand on hip.
He didn't respond and I tilted my head to the side, watching them.
"You can go," she spoke harshly and I winced at her tone.
"No."
My eyebrows flew up at Hoodie's deep voice. That one spoken word was enough to make me freeze but it didn't seem to falter Amy one bit.
"Get out. Now."
I watched as Hoodie stared her down for about half a minute before he made a move, pulling the door open and stepping outside.
Once he was gone, thumping down the stairs Amy turned to me with her mouth open, "that was scary as fuck."
I released the breath I'd been holding, "you must have a death wish."
She laughed and came to sit next to me again, wrapping her arms around me.
"I'm glad we're almost back to normal."
"Me too," I spoke up, running my fingers through her hair, "I am not looking forward to all the assignments we've missed though."
She laughed again giving me a small squeeze before pulling away, "so, now that we're alone- I want all the details!"
"Pfft come on," I smiled nervously, toying with the hair at my nape, "there's nothing to really talk about."
"You call this nothing?" She asked, gesturing to the myriad of bruises and bite marks on my neck and shoulders.
I pulled my lower lip between my teeth, "I mean- he is a bit extreme."
"That's hot!" Amy pulled her feet up under her, sitting cross legged on the bed as she watched me expectantly, waiting for me to say more.
"I don't know what you expect me to say," I chuckled nervously.
"Was it good?"
So good.
"It was... nice," I smiled knowingly.
"Yeah right, there's nothing nice about those hickeys," Amy rolled her eyes playfully, "it's like he wants the whole world to know."
He probably did.
"I- well to be honest he seems to really like being in control but-"
"But?" She leaned forward slightly.
"But I feel like sometimes I want it to be different you know?"
"You mean you want to take the reigns?" She waggled her eyebrows suggestively and I giggled, tempted to cover my face.
"Well yeah. I doubt it's gonna happen though."
"Just wait for the right moment," she smirked, getting to her feet again, "in no time he'll be calling you Mommy."
I laughed and swatted at her with a pillow but she ducked, laughing as she walked over to her closet.
"Amy?"
"Hm?"
"Do you think we'll really be able to go back to normal?"
She held up a shirt to her chest as she spoke, "of course I do. This already feels normal enough."
"But-"
"You're lucky you only have one person to kill, " she spoke nonchalantly, "apparently as Zalgo's proxy I could be called on at any time to do his dirty work."
"I don't even understand that," I groaned, "he's a supernatural being. Why does he need anyone to do anything for him?"
She paused for a moment before shrugging her shoulders, "maybe he just likes to watch."
I caught the double entendre and shook my head with a laugh, "you're sick."
"We know this."
After she decided on a change of clothes she excused herself to go shower and change, letting me know that if I wanted to do the same I could borrow some of her clothes, which I did.
I was still nervous about the whole killing Mason thing and as I exited the bathroom, freshly showered and with my hair done up in two space buns, I heard thumping coming up the stairs and saw Hoodie coming up, followed by the other two.
"It's time," Masky spoke and I nodded, watching as they turned and headed back down.
Once Amy was ready we joined them outside and took off again, heading to Mason's.
"So, is he home?" I asked from the front passenger seat. This time Toby was at the back while Masky and Hoodie were behind us.
"Yeah," Masky answered simply.
"W-we took c-care of the officer too," Toby said, sounding excited.
"Was that really necessary?" I asked.
"Do you want tonight to go smoothly or not?"
I rolled my eyes at Masky's question. They could have just restrained him or something. I didn't answer though, it wouldn't be worth arguing with him about. I just wanted to do the deed and get it over with.
We parked a few blocks away and walked the rest of the journey there while discussing the plan. As we approached his house the three boys made their way around back while Amy and I walked up to the front porch.
My heart was thudding in my chest and I dry swallowed before blowing out a breath and ringing the doorbell.
