《Friends with the Frat》17~Halloween
Advertisement
It's been a week since the wreck and Halloween is in just one week. I'm a little bit excited to hand out candy. I don't know exactly what I'm going to dress up as yet.
"What should I be for Halloween? Rem and Car are going as Sandy and Danny. Lena and Con are going as Woody and Buzz. The boys are all going as the incredible." I asked Will over FaceTime.
I sat up on my bed holding the phone out in front of me.
"I'll dress up with you if you want to. Ellie asked me to dress up with her, but I will 100% tell her no if you want to do something together."
The fact that he'll change his costume to match with me melts my heart.
"Babe, you don't have to. I don't want to be a burden and make you match with me."
"Snowflake" he said seriously. "You will never be a burden."
"I just don't want you to go through all the trouble to find a costume to match with me. The things we'll be doing are so dynamically different."
"If this is about me getting embarrassed because I'm matching with my girlfriend, you don't need to worry. I'll do anything for you. My friends don't care what I look like for Halloween."
There's a lot of different reasons why I didn't really want him to have to dress up with me and I didn't want to discuss it over the phone.
"I have to go, but I love you, okay? You pick the costume and I'll dress up I promise" he blew a kiss and me and hung up the phone.
I never even got a chance to say goodbye to him.
Before I could control it, tears fell from my eyes. I fell back on my bed and cried. I don't know why I'm crying so much.
There was a soft knock on my door before it opened. I tried to wipe away the tears before whoever was at the door could see them.
"Cora? Sweetie, are you okay?" Harper asked and rushed over to me on the bed. She sat by my legs.
"I don't know." I answered and sat up.
"Is it Will?" She asked softly.
I nodded slightly. "He told me that he would dress up for Halloween with me if I wanted to. He was gonna dress up with his friends but he changed that for me."
"That's so cute of him."
"What if I embarrass him? No one's gonna think it's cute that he's dressing up with his high school girlfriend. I don't want to put him through that." I worried.
"Who cares what other people think? He's not doing it for them. He's doing it for you. There's more than just a Halloween costume, isn't there?"
"I just feel like a burden on his shoulders" I admitted.
"Cora, you will never be a burden on that boy. He is head over heels in love with you and you couldn't change that even if you tried. I've never seen two kids more in love than you two."
"Something makes me feel like I'm holding him back from friends and his college experience. I don't think I should be the reason he changes everything"
Harper gave me a hug. "Please don't think that. Will, loves you. You're not holding him back from anything. If anything you're helping him grow. You support him with everything you have. He would change everything in the world to make you happy."

I wiped the still falling tears from my face. "I miss him so much. I didn't even know it was possible to miss one person so much. But he's my person. Long distance is hard."
"Yes it is. I probably shouldn't tell you this, but that's what broke me and my ex husband up. He had moved to Europe for work. He visited every holiday for two years. It was hard but we made it work for a while.
"The last time I ever saw him in person was the morning of my birthday. He always came for three days for my birthday. One day before and one day after. He had an early flight back to Europe and he didn't tell me. Our phone calls and texts went from daily to few and far between. Two weeks later I found out I was pregnant with Skylar." She sniffled.
I placed my hand comfortingly on hers. Silently let her know that I was there.
"I thought that that was it. He'd come back home and we'd finally be a family. Just after four months into the pregnancy he emailed me the divorce papers. That was the last I've ever heard from him. He sends money on the day I told him I was pregnant, because he doesn't even know her birthday"
"I'm sorry Harper that must've been terrible for you" I said and hugged her.
"Oh it was, but now I have you and your family. Sky has a big sister and a dad and three big brothers. It couldn't have worked out any better."
I smiled fondly at her. I loved our unofficial family.
"The point of the story was, that is never going to be you and Will. You are too in love for that. Trust me, you two have more love for each other in your pinky fingers than Robert ever had for me."
"Thank you for that, Harper. I needed it" I wiped the excess tears from my face.
"Just know that you can talk to me about anything anytime."
Now was the perfect time to ask her a question that's been in the back of my mind for a while now.
"Harper, can I ask you a question?" I asked her.
"Yeah of course" she answered.
"Can I call you Mom?" I asked softly.
She froze. Her eyes went wide and I could see them brimming with tears.
"Yo-you w-want to call me Mom?" She stuttered.
"If it's okay with you" I said.
"Of course it's okay with me sweetie" she cried and wrapped her arms around me.
"I love you Mom" I told her as I cried.
I haven't had a mom in over ten years. It felt nice to have someone I can talk to about girl things with.
"I love you too sweetie"

"Hell yeah! It's Halloween" Cooper yelled through the house.
"Chill out Coop. Some of us still have school." Carter said.
Coop shrugged. "The candy is my favorite part"
"I thought you were nineteen not nine" I remarked. "I swear if you touch a single piece of trick or treat candy while I'm at school I will hurt you" I threatened him.
He nodded but he most likely wouldn't listen.
"Come on I have to be at school early today and Remi is sick." Carter said to me.
I kissed Mom and Dad goodbye and jogged upstairs to grab my things. I kissed Bandit and ran back downstairs. Carter was already by the car which I have the keys to and didn't unlock.

"Sorry" I told Carter and unlocked the car. He was starting at his phone too much to notice.
"You're good." He pulled himself into the car and hit his head on the roof because he was looking. "Ow shit!" He said holding his head.
I tried not to laugh. "Car, are you okay?"
"No I'm not freaking okay. I just gave myself a concussion" he snapped at me and held his head. He took a few deep breaths and waited for the pain to subside.
"I was talking to the car not you" I teased.
He sent a glare in my direction and I just laughed. "Ha ha very funny" he replied sarcastically.
"All better now?" I asked.
"It still hurts like hell" he grumbled.
"Let's get you to school"
Carter was silent the whole way to school. I dropped him off early and since I had time. I decided to head to Riley's for the best iced chai I've ever had.
I don't know how many people know it's on the menu but I love it.
"Hey Chantel. What happened to your eye?" I grew concerned by the second.
"Oh I ran into my cabinet door yesterday, I'm fine really" she waved me off. I didn't really believe her but I shrugged it off. "Best iced chai Greenhill has to offer?" She questioned.
"You know me so well" I laughed. "Here's five, keep the change."
"Cora, this is literally a dollar chai with the discount."
"And you deserve the tips. What are you up to tonight?"
She shrugged. "Nothing. Staying in my room away from the horror movies and scary things my family likes to tortue me with"
"Why don't you come out with us? We're going to Nick's house for a party. Boys and booze, you can't say no to that." I winked at her.
"I don't know, will Cooper be there?" I nodded. "I'll think about it, that's still not a yes though." She handed me my chai.
"Text me when you make a decision and wear a killer costume." I said as I started walking backwards out of the restaurant.
I made my way back to school just in time to get to class and sip on my iced chai.
The school day went by pretty fast. Soon enough I was off to go home and wait for the trick or treaters.
Chantel texted and told me she couldn't make it because of her brother.
"Okay how do we look?" Dad asked as Him, Mom, and Sky walked out.
He was dressed as Peter Pan, Mom was Wendy and Sky was Tinkerbell. Sky spun around in her little green dress.
"You guys look amazing" I told them honestly. I missed dressing up as a family, but I don't miss the boys being pains when picking out something to dress up as.
"Thanks sweetie. You look quite amazing yourself" Mom said and hugged me.
I dressed up as Winnie the Pooh. It was an oversized yellow hoodie that covered my ass and a red crop top on top of that. I had black spandex under as a precaution. I put my hair up in two buns as ears.
"Thanks, Mom, but this is nothing. Now you three go have some fun and get a lot of candy, nugget" I hugged my favorite sister.
They left and I spent the next three hours watching Halloween specials on hallmark and answering the door for little trick or treaters.
Mom and Dad came back and Remi came to pick me up with Carter.
"Bye guys" I told my family.
"Home by eleven" dad reminded me.
"Of course" I kissed his cheek and left the house.
We drove to Nicks. I think I underestimated how idiotic they would look as incredibles. I don't know where they found full body skin tight red suits. Then again I don't think I really want to.
The couples looked cute all dressed up together. Will sent me a picture of him dressed up like Christopher Robin and it was really cute. Collared shirts looked amazing on my boy.
"The party has arrived" Remi joked as we walked in.
"Party my ass" Nick called back to her.
"Watch what you say to my girlfriend" Carter cut in. Remi smiled and tiptoed to kiss him.
I rolled my eyes at the group of them. They were all dorks.
"Looking good, Cor" Logan said as we walked up to me and handed me a drink.
"I'm not drinking tonight. I'd rather not hate myself in the morning and I have to drive home." I explained and kindly gave him the cup.
He shrugged. "More for the rest of us then." He slugged back the drink I had just refused.
The party was great. We danced and had fun. Other people drank a lot. Especially Carter since he couldn't drive, he would regret that in the morning.
I'm not sure how Remi's mom would feel about her coming home drunk on a school night. She assured me she could get in without my help so I waited for her to get in before I left her house last night.
I was driving her car, but I was going to have to pick her up tomorrow morning anyway. She's gonna be quite hungover.
I never thought it would be so hard to get a drunk and broken Carter upstairs and into his bed. It proved harder than I thought.
I went straight to bed after taking off my makeup and hair. My outfit was comfortable enough to sleep him.
When I woke up Carter I got exactly what I expected. He definitely hated himself.
"Sucks to be you son." Dad chuckled. Mom smacked him on the arm.
"Car Car, can you watch Disney movies with me when you get home?" Sky asked sweetly.
"He might not feel good after school, honey" Mom told the clueless five year old.
"Is he sick?" She asked.
"Actually Disney movies with you sound like a perfect cure. I'll be there, nugget" he smiled at her. I could tell he was in pain. He probably had a massive headache.
Mom helped Sky down from the chairs. "Go grab your backpack, we have to get you to school" she said.
Sky ran to hug Carter before going to get her backpack. She came back in and kissed everyone. She and Mom left.
"Okay let's go to school" I told Carter and he groaned. He was miserable and I'm kinda loving it.
Does that make me a bad sister?
Probably.
Do I care?
Not one bit.
