《y/n fujioka ||haruhi fujioka's sister||》||43||

It was another day at the Fujioka household. Y/n and Haruhi decided that since there was nothing to do today they would clean the apartment.
They collected all of the cleaning products they owned and brought them to the compact living room. Ranka was presently preparing to go to work, slipping on his shoes as he stood near the front door--his shoes were black flats that partnered with his feminine clothing.
The long, wavy, maroon haired male glanced back at both of his daughters. "You two really don't have to do this. We can clean the apartment next week so I can help you guys."
"It's fine dad, we don't mind." Haruhi assured while placing down a small, silver bucket that had a rag hanging on the rim of it along with some cleaning supplies inside.
"Yeah, just go to work." Y/n encouraged with a small smile, motioning her hand dismissively.
Ranka tugged the two girls into a secure, tenderhearted embrace. "Ahh, I have the best daughters in the whole world!" He glorified before reluctantly unfastening his arms away from his daughters. "I'll see you two later tonight. Love you!"
Haruhi and Y/n waved their father farewell as he opened the front door and exited the apartment unit, leaving the pair of siblings to freshen up their residence.
"Alright," Y/n began and looked at her fraternal twin sister, "what room should we start with?"
"Let's start with our room." Haruhi suggested.
With that being said, Y/n and Haruhi approached their shared bedroom, each carrying the cleaning products as they set foot in their room.
Y/n placed the products she was carrying on the floor. "Okay. You can clean your side of the room and I'll clean mine." She proceeded towards the left side of the territory.
The room wasn't big but it was enough for the two females. They had twin-size beds that were on either side of the room--one for Y/n and one for Haruhi--a dresser that they both shared along with the closet, a coffee table positioned in the middle of the room that resembled the one in the living room, and a nightstand that was placed beside their beds.
Y/n grabbed the duster and began to remove the minimum amount of dust that was assembled on her nightstand.
She looked over at Haruhi and saw that she was dusting off the dresser and the small coffee table. Y/n obtained a container of clorox wipes and took one out of the receptacle. She polished her nightstand with the clorox wipe and walked towards the coffee table that Haruhi just finished dusting off, wiping it down with the disinfect wipe, doing the same to the surface of the dresser afterwards.
"If you want, you can start sweeping and I'll start off with the bathroom." Y/n proposed.
"I don't want you doing the bathroom alone." Haruhi stated unsurely. "I'll help."
"I'll just get a head start with cleaning it. When you finish sweeping, you can help me out."
Haruhi nodded and grabbed the broom along with the dustpan. Y/n left their shared bedroom and walked over to the only bathroom in the apartment.
Y/n entered the restroom and began formulating to clean the sink. She grabbed a handle scrub and then got hold of a cleaning product. She put the chemicals liquid inside the bowl of the sink and started to cleanse the handbasin.
Once she was done cleaning and rinsing the sink, Haruhi arrived to the bathroom.
"I'll start cleaning the toilet." Haruhi acknowledged, walking towards the fixed receptacle.

Y/n hummed and grabbed the windex bottle and sprayed it all over the oval-shaped mirror. She ripped off a piece of paper towel and began to wipe down the mirror.
Since Haruhi was cleaning the toilet, Y/n began to take out the shampoo, conditioner, and other items that were in the shower tub.
She began to put bleach in the corners of the tub and massaged it in with the handle scrub. She grabbed the shower head and rinsed the chemical off with water, making sure that all the bleach was no longer present.
She finished cleaning the bathtub and reorganized the items that were previously in the shower. She turned to look at Haruhi who has just finished cleaning the toilet.
Y/n grabbed the broom and dustpan and swept the floor to the bathroom before Haruhi cleaned the floor with a mop.
Y/n distanced herself away from Haruhi so she could finish cleaning the surface of the restroom. The wavy haired female brought herself to the small living room and began to carefully clean their mother's memorial area.
Sitting on the tatami mat, she grabbed the picture frame that displayed a portrait of their mother, Kotoko.
She looked down at it with a wistful smile. 'I miss you, mom... I wish you were still here.'
Y/n released a quiet sigh and gently brushed over the frame with the duster, soon doing the same thing to the tribute table that would shortly have her mother's picture back on it. She didn't even notice her sister walk into the living room and begin to polish the small coffee table.
She glanced at the picture of their mother once more before situating it back onto the memorial. She stood up and turned around, catching sight of Haruhi who was already dusting off the television.
"When did you get here?" Y/n asked, scrunching up her face in marginal skepticism.
"Like six minutes ago." Haruhi answered, presenting her sister with a slightly raised eyebrow.
"Oh, I didn't even realize." Y/n vocalized before approaching the small bookshelf that comprised with magazines and novels, swiftly removing the dust off of it.
The two sisters walked to the kitchen--Y/n began to clean the sink while Haruhi wiped down the counter. The youngest out of the two sisters used the same cleaning product she used in the bathroom sink and started to scrub it with the handle scrub. She rinsed the chemical off with some water and then turned the faucet off once she was done.
Y/n and Haruhi made their way to their father's bedroom. The room itself was well kept and organized--all they had to do was clean the dresser, the two nightstands that were positioned on either side of the bed, and sweep then mop the floor. Haruhi undertook cleaning one of the nightstands while her sister cleansed the other one before moving onto the dresser.
After that, the two sisters swept the floor, removing any dirt or dust that was on it and then mopped the wooden surface. Once they were completely done with Ranka's bedroom, they stared at one another as a small smile formed on their lips, both of them raising one of their hands as they brought them together to create a high-five.
"Good job with cleaning--as always." Y/n commented with a miniature grin, positioning her hands on her hips.
"You too." Haruhi said, her small smile remaining on her lips. "You can take a shower first." She offered. "I'll wait in our room."
"You sure?" Y/n waited for endorsement until she saw Haruhi nod her head. "Thanks. I won't take long."

Having said that, Y/n exited her father's bedroom and walked towards her room that she shared with Haruhi to gather some fresh and clean clothes for her to wear after her shower--which ended up being pajamas--and advanced to the bathroom.

Y/n and Haruhi each took a shower and relaxed until they had to prepare dinner. It was now five:fifteen in the evening once the two girls decided to cook supper.
They both agreed on making udon with tempura. Y/n started by making the tempura while Haruhi made the udon.
Dinner was quickly made due to the two females working together. They sat down on the tatami mat in the living room and settled their meal on the small coffee table, both watching television as they ate.
Once they were done consuming their dinner, they placed their dishes in the sink.
"Can you serve dad his food and put it in the fridge, please?" Y/n requested. "I'll wash the dishes tonight."
Haruhi nodded at her sisters supplication and did as asked. She grabbed a small serving bowl and placed a certain amount of the undon with the tempura while Y/n washed the dishes.
The two girls accomplished their tasks and approached their bedroom. They stacked up their schoolwork that was expected to be finalized on Monday and decided to go back to the living room.
Y/n and Haruhi sat down on the tatami mat across from each other and stationed their schoolwork onto the small coffee table--Y/n sat facing the front door while Haruhi positioned herself to face the balcony doors.
They both then began to work on their assignments.
- - - -
Two hours has passed since Y/n and Haruhi finished their school assignments. The smell of green tea accompanied the air due to the scented incense that Haruhi lit up. Ranka usually arrives home from work at eight:fifteen but he was fifteen minutes late, meaning that the time was now eight:thirty.
Y/n sighed as she picked up her cellphone that rested beside her on the coffee table and texted her father. She asked if he was on his way back to the apartment, which he replied by saying that he was taking another shift and that he's probably going to arrive at the apartment later that night.
She exhaled heavily once more and got up from the tatami mat, approaching the bookshelf as she scanned the books and magazines that were organized on the shelf.
As if already knowing what Y/n was thinking about, Haruhi bookmarked the page of the book she was reading by folding the top corner of the page.
She glanced at her sister, who picked out a book and sat back down across from her. "Is dad working another shift again?" The short, brown haired female rhetorically questioned.
Y/n nodded her head as she opened the book she selected. "Yeah."
Haruhi caught a glimpse of the book her sister was beginning to read and sighed, picking up her book as she stood up. "I'm gonna go to bed. You?"
Y/n shook her head slowly, not removing her eyes from the book that was showing interesting facts and knowledge that she has read more than once. "No, it's too early to go to bed."
"Okay..." Haruhi muttered and began to walk away but suddenly stopped her movements before entering the hallway that led to their bedroom. She turned back around to look at her sister. "You know, you've read that book more times than I can count and everything you read it you never have a look of interest whatsoever."
Y/n stared up from the medical novel she was reading and connected her brown eyes to her sister's. "What do you mean? If I read books like these and study, it's gonna help me get into a good college that would assist me in becoming a doctor. So of course I'm interested."
"I will support you with whatever you want to do in your life, Y/n. Both dad and I will be there to support you. But did you not feel anything when you sang those songs for the play back at Lobelia Academy?" Haruhi questioned, faintly scrunching up her eyebrows. "You mostly expressed yourself when you sang Alfie. You show so much passion when you sing. Did you not get anything out of doing that?"
"Well, I did get a bruise on my ass when we all slipped on those random banana peels." Y/n joked halfheartedly, a false tug on the corner of her lips twitched upwards. "Other than that, I felt nothing."
Haruhi sighed in defeat, deciding to discontinue the discussion. "Okay... I'm going to bed now. Goodnight, Y/n." She uttered nothing else as she journeyed to the bedroom she shared with her sister.
"Goodnight..." Y/n mumbled once she heard the door to the room close, an emotionless expression appearing on her face as she stared down at the medical book on the coffee table, her eyes laid upon the page she was on but her mind was unfocused.
She simply shook her head to regain concentration and started to read the page from the medical book.
Y/n has always waited for her father to arrive back home if he was coming to the apartment late or had to work an extra shift at the bar he worked at. It just became a habit ever since her mother passed away.
After reading a couple of pages from the novel, she turned her head to glance back at the digital clock that was on top of the box television. The time was now ten o'clock in the evening.
'Time sure does fly by.' She thought to herself and laid her head down on her arms that were on the coffee table, continuing to read the book that was in front of her.
A sudden feeling of tiredness steadily engrossed her. She attempted to go against her drowsiness and to keep her brown eyes open, but her body opposed her wishes and her consciousness slowly departed.
- - - -
It was around eleven:forty p.m., almost midnight, as Ranka stood in front of the door to his apartment and inserted the house key through the keyhole and unlocked the door to their unit.
He carefully opened the door, not wanting to disturb his daughter's if they were asleep. The first thing Ranka noticed once he entered the apartment was the nice refreshing smell of his home. He took off his shoes and neatly placed them to the side, closing the front door and locking it once he did.
His brown eyes looked straight into the living room. The lights were still on, allowing him to distinguish the resting figure of his youngest daughter who had her head cradled on her arms that were on the small coffee table.
Ranka's facial features softened as the corners of his lips lightly tugged upwards, soon approaching his sleeping daughter noiselessly.
'She did it again, huh...?' He thought and slowly moved Y/n's brown hair that was in her face behind her ear. 'Oh, Y/n, you're such a worry-wart.'
He delicately shook his daughter's shoulder, trying to wake her up. "Y/n, honey, you fell asleep in the living room again." He whispered softly.
Y/n hummed and gradually squinted her eyes open. "Oh. Hi dad, how was work?" She asked while sitting up and rubbing her eyes with her hands.
"How about I tell you tomorrow." He advised, helping Y/n up from the tatami mat. "Go to your room and sleep in your bed."
Y/n was about to absently walk to her room but stopped herself before she could. "Wait, your dinner is in the fridge. Do you want me to warm it up for you?" She offered, already making her way to the kitchen, her eyes still half closed.
Ranka let out an airy chuckle and gently placed his hand on his daughter's back, stopping her before she could do anything. "I got it, sweetheart. Just go to bed." He lightly kissed the middle of her forehead.
Y/n nodded sleepily and began to walk towards her bedroom, who had Haruhi already sound asleep in her bed.
Ranka viewed his daughter enter the room that she shared with her sister and closed the door. He glanced down at the floor with a small frown.
'I can never get her to stop doing this... It kinda makes me sad that she waits for me to come back from work whenever I take an extra shift. I don't want my daughters worrying about me.' He began to think, walking into the living room and picking up the medical book that Y/n was previously reading before dozing off. 'Would things be different if Kotoko was still here with us?'
He turned his gaze to the picture frame of his deceased spouse.
'Probably... But I need to stay strong and take care of our daughters.'
