"There. All in a day's work." Tamaki sighed in relief and wiped the sweat off his forehead using his sleeve, a closed eyed smile evident on his facial features.
Misuzu stared at a section of the white fence that the blond haired young man was supposed to fix. In his opinion, the fence looked worse than before Tamaki even attempted to assemble it. He turns his back to Tamaki and shrugs his hands out. "Ugh! Your repairs are totally un-refreshing. Three-point deduction." Misuzu held out three fingers as he walked away, disenchantment apparent on his face.
The violet eyed male faltered as his mouth became agape, soon crouching down onto the grass while a crestfallen aura engrossed him.
"Wow. And he spent all that time working on that fence." Y/n observed in a detached tone.
"He used up so much of his energy trying to be refreshing that his work suffered for it. Is he alright in the head?" Haruhi examined, dispassionately.
"He's never had an actual job before, you know." Kyoya justified with the knuckles of his index finger and thumb on his chin, a limited, mocking smirk on his lips.
Laughter settled in the background as the twins played with the garden hose. Hikaru held the water hose as the unheated liquid protruded out of it and into the air.
"Hey, cut it out! That's cold!" Kaoru giggled, using his arms as a shield to prevent the water from splashing on his face.
"Haha, we have to chill the watermelon." Hikaru chortled, bending down and grabbing the watermelon out of the water basket. "That's how our guests like it." He motioned his unoccupied hand towards the two girls who were standing a few feet away from them.
"Oh, so refreshing!" The two females giggled with their hands on their cheeks, shimmying side to side as an unmistakable blond haired male collapsed down onto the grass on his hands and knees, his head hung low.
"And he's down." Y/n mumbled as she inspected her blond haired upperclassman.
Tamaki abruptly hoisted himself up, his hands clenched into fists as he stared up at the sky and declared, "they have to understand that I'm worthy of being considered part of their top five!"
"He's still on about that...?" Y/n muttered as Kyoya approached the blond haired male and began to converse with him.

The sound of a piano was heard throughout the whole property as the sun began to set, casting a sunkissed-orange tone in the sky. Y/n listened to the beautiful music that Tamaki was taking part in as she assisted Haruhi with removing the white sheets from the clothesline outside.
As soon as the two sisters were done and all the white sheets were in the basket, they began to make their way towards the back door of the pension but someone standing on the patio with their arms on the railing caught their attention.

"Kaoru? You're out here alone? Where's Hikaru?" Haruhi questioned as she and Y/n climbed up the small wooden steps, the basket being held by her hands.
"He went to get some trash bags for us." He responded, the broom sweeper and dustpan were supported by the wooden railing of the patio.
"Cool." Y/n acknowledged as she and Haruhi passed by him, but Y/n stopped walking and looked over her shoulder, Haruhi doing the same as she stood a couple of steps away from her sister and Kaoru. "Are you still confident that you'll win? Tamaki-Senpai is playing some pretty good music, you know." The shoulder length, wavy haired female teased with a smile.
A small, gentle smile appeared on Kaoru's lips. "I don't know. Kyoya-Senpai's created a monster. The boss didn't even know this place had a piano before he pointed it out to him."
Out of nowhere, two girls that were above the group of three pushed open their window, accidentally bumping into a vase of flowers and causing it to topple over.
Y/n looked up when she heard a gasp, her brown eyes widening once she saw the vase moving towards her.
"Look out!" Kaoru alerted and pushed the two siblings away from the descending vase, using his body to protect them as the echo of the vase shattering resonated.
"I am so sorry! Are you three alright?!" One of the girls called out to them, panic and worry was visible in her voice.
Kaoru showed the two young women a thumbs up. "Don't worry, we're okay." He then glanced at Y/n and Haruhi, placing a hand on either of their shoulders. "Right?"
"Yeah. Thanks, we're fine." Haruhi assured with a faint tug on her lips.
Y/n nodded before letting out a quiet gasp. "Kaoru, your cheek-"
"Kaoru!" Hikaru cried out as he rushed towards his brother, kneeling down beside him while placing a hand on his shoulder, moderately rotating him to face him. "You're hurt! Let me see!"
"I'm fine. It's only a little cut." Kaoru claimed, attempting to set his brother's mind at rest.
Hikaru released an inaudible sigh and settled his forehead down on Kaoru's shoulder.
"Hikaru...?" Kaoru softly called his name.
"Don't scare me like that."
"Hey, I'm sorry. Do you forgive me?"
Hikaru moved his head off of Kaoru's shoulder and gazed at him. The two of them placed their forehead against one another's and smiled comfortingly.
Without warning, Misuzu appeared on the roof with tears spilling out of his eyes, spinning around in circles. "Bravo! Bravo! One-hundred points for refreshing brotherly love! A perfect score! And the victory goes to...the Hitachiin Brothers!" He announced into a microphone as the twins stood up and held each other's hand while doing a peace sign with the other.
"Congrats, you guys." Haruhi congratulated, standing behind the twins with her hands behind her back, Y/n positioned next to her as Hikaru and Kaoru turned around to look at them.

"Looks like you guys did win after all." Y/n slightly grinned at them.
A dark, mischievous definition materialized on the twins faces. "Oh, it was nothing really."
Y/n and Haruhi flinched with widened eyes. "What the-?"
"Hang on a second! Was all of that staged?" Haruhi quizzed.
"Well now, who could say?" The twins spoke in unison.
'Damn it.' Y/n cursed in her mind. 'These twins are smart.'

It was the next morning at Pension Misuzu. Y/n and Haruhi were waiting tables until they noticed Hikaru and Kaoru walk down the stairs.
"Come on, I said I was sorry. What do you want me to do? I didn't mean to kick you out of bed. It was an accident!" Hikaru contended, pronouncing the last word intentionally.
"Accident or not, my back is killing me." Kaoru invalidated, stubbornly.
The twins sat at a table, making Y/n and Haruhi glance at each other before the older Fujioka sibling exhaled heavily and approach the auburn haired brothers.
"Get us some breakfast please. I'll have two pieces of baguette toast with clarified butter and garnet seal syrup." Hikaru ordered, offhandedly.
Kaoru told Haruhi his breakfast order next. "I'll take poached eggs with bacon, and a bowl of whole-grain cereal. The kind with those little pieces of dried fruit in it."
"Hold on!" Haruhi interjected. "We don't even have that stuff on the menu."
"Huh?" They both released in disbelief.
Suddenly, Tamaki dashed over to where Haruhi and the twins were, smacking the back of the twins' heads with a rolled up manual.
"Behave!" He scolded. "Just who in the world do you think you are? Acting like members of some privileged aristocracy on holiday."
"We are aristocracy." Hikaru remarked in a matter-of-fact tone.
"So are you, boss." Kaoru added.
"You are missing the whole point of travel. When in Rome," Tamaki grabbed a silver platter, "do as the Romans do that's what I say." He disconnected the silver lid from the platter, revealing what was under it. "Just look at this! Karuizawa cuisine fit for a king! Cold pasteurized Jersey steaks. Fresh juice, Highland vegetables. Smoked salmon cooked over cherry wood--the local pride, I might add. And last but not least, freshly baked breads with homemade jam. Bon appétit!"
Y/n eventually advanced towards the table and looked at all the food that was on it with a somewhat amazed gleam in her eyes, but her facial features displayed indifference.
"Since when have you-" Hikaru stared at the blond haired male with a criticizing expression.
"-been such a connoisseur?" Kaoru finished.
"Oh, since he started learning from Misuzu. He's been in the kitchen with him all morning long." Haruhi informed in slight annoyance.
Tamaki hummed in confirmation and held up a guidebook that was titled 'Host Club Summer Training Camp'. "While the two of you were sleeping the day away I decided to start a 'refreshing host' workshop. I even wrote a manual."
"You really need a life." Haruhi commented, making Y/n nod.
Tamaki began to read something off of his manual, now standing between the two females. "While you are acting as my apprentice, you may not treat me as your Senpai. That is the first rule I have written."
"Really?" Haruhi and Y/n grunted, avoiding eye contact with their upperclassman.
"Hey, wait." Hikaru started off, reading a copy of the manual. "Have you got to rule number five yet? It says we have to be up by six a.m.!"
"Has Kyoya-Senpai and Honey-Senpai read through the manual yet?" Kaoru removed his amber colored eyes from the guidebook he was holding.
Tamaki let out a choked groan as he stumbled back. Tears cascaded down his face and he pressed his knees up against his chest, crouching in front of a corner as he silently sobbed.
"Hey, look, we're sorry, boss." Hikaru apologized, him and his brother standing behind the blond haired young man.
"We didn't mean to stir up painful memories." Kaoru conveyed, earnestly.
The entrance to the pension opened, making the small bell on the door chime, notifying that someone has arrived.
"Good morning. Arai Produce." A young mans voice greeted.
The two sisters turned around. 'That voice...it sounds so familiar.' Y/n wondered.
"Good morning to you." Misuzu welcomed, proceeding towards the person who has entered the pension. "Working boy, eh? A high schooler?" He placed an index finger on his chin in a thoughtful demeanor.
"Yes ma'am. I'm helping out at my uncle's shop for the summer." The young man wearing a sapphire-blue cap explained kindly.
"How refreshing!" Misuzu exclaimed in awe with his hands clasped together, making the young man flinch and gingerly sweat drop. "Haruhi, Y/n, would you two put these in the refrigerator for me?" He turned his back to the young man and displayed a closed eyed smile.
"Sure." Y/n undertook with a small smile, snapping out of her thoughts as she and Haruhi approached the two individuals.
The boy's sapphire-blue cap unexpectedly fell off his head, exposing his brown hair and making his face more viewable. "Haruhi and Y/n...Fujioka?"
Y/n and Haruhi's eyes widened in recollection once they caught sight of his appearance. There was a moment of silence as the young man stared at the two sisters, Y/n and Haruhi reciprocating.
Haruhi finally spoke up. "Hey...Arai."

Living in Paradise
The first thing I saw when I woke up was a group of people standing over me shouting "Happy Birthday!!!". Immediately after they start debating what type of world I came from and calling me 'William'. Later on I would learn that everyone here is reborn from another world and many children come with magic or superpowers or other gifts leftover from their old lives. I came from a world that was, to me, typical modernity. To them it was pretty boaring with the only thing interesting about my world being was a higher than average tech level for a non-spacefaring civilization; technology that wouldn't even work in this new world. All I brought with me was a peculiar mindset and the strong suspicion that there must be something more to life. Once everyone started to clear out my mother took me up in her arms, explained how the world works, and then stabbed me in the neck with a knife. I got better. -------------------- This story was written from the central idea of a simple question: What if a videogame like world, with all the normal video-game staples and tropes, was actually a real world? How would that work? How would people understand the universe around them? What sort of weirdness would the world appear to have from the point of view of someone who recognizes the odd nature of the place? And finally, if left to its own devices, how would this type of world ultimately develop?
