A young Natsu Dragneel is in a forest looking for Lisanna. He trips and hears a scream. Suddenly, he wakes up from the dream and also wakes up an annoyed Lucy Heartfilia. Lucy ended up sleeping on the floor when Natsu and Happy suddenly arrived at her house to have an unannounced sleepover, taking her bed in the process. After Happy wakes up as well, Natsu explains that he sleeps best on her bed and begins feeling hungry. Lucy asks him about the dream, but Natsu acts like he didn't hear her and starts to look for breakfast, causing Lucy to tell him to answer her.

Later, at the guild,

Lucy: Gotta say. *to Wendy and Carla* "You 2 are looking right at home at Fairytail"

Wendy: "Yeah!"

Carla: "Actually we've been in the girls only dorm"

Wendy: "How come you don't live there too Lucy? It's really nice and cozy"

Lucy: "Yeah well I didn't find out about it, until after I got my place. Besides the rent there is like a hundred thousand jewels a month. My apartment is way more affordable and I'm broke"

Carla/Wendy: "HUNDRED THOUSAND JEWELS!!!"

Lucy: "Yeah you didn't knew ?"

Wendy: "No! (Y/n) paid the rent for the entire year"

Lucy: "ENTIRE YEAR!!! HOW RICH IS THAT SLACKER!!"

Carla: "So we assumed it was cheap"

Wendy: "Carla we have to try to repay (Y/n) as soon as possible"

Carla: "I agree with you child"

All of a sudden Max and Warren crash into the guild,

Max/Warren: "BIG NEWS!!"

Suddenly bells ring over the town,

Lucy: "What's up?"

Wendy/Carla: "Sounds like bells"

(Y/n) karate chops someone sitting near him to wake up and smiles to himself at the ringing bells,

(Y/n): "So the old man is back"

Puss: "Why the heck are the bells ringing?"

(Y/n): "You will find out soon enough"

At the balcony of the guildhall Natsu and Happy are excited,

Natsu: "I bet I know why they're ringing"

Happy: "Aye"

Back at the guildhall everyone are pumped up,

Elfman: *pumping his fist* "Yeah!"

Gray: "That's awesome"

Natsu: "Old Gildarts is coming back home!"

Happy: "Oh Yeah!"

Everyone: "GILDARTS IS BACK!!!"

Lucy: "Gildarts ? Who is that ? Are they in the guild ? I don't even think I've even heard of them before"

Mirajane: "He's the strongest wizard in Fairy Tail"

Lucy: *surprised* "Woah! Are you serious! I thought (Y/n) was the top dog around here"

Erza: "(Y/n) might be powerful, but he doesn't hold a candle to him"

(Y/n): *appearing out of nowhere* "Yeah strawberry is right"

Lucy: "Bet this guy must be the king of breaking stuff then"

(Y/n): *chuckling* "You might be true there"

Everyone in the guild erupts into a cheer.

Lucy: "Well it's good he is back, but I don't understand why everyone is going totally nuts ?"

Wendy: "Look how happy they all are"

Carla: "They are certainly more out of control than usual"

Mirajane: "It's only natural everyone's excited. He's been gone for quite a while, 3 years in fact"

Lucy: "That's so crazy! So what is he even doing ?"

Mirajane: "Well we have regular jobs and S-class quests. Above those are SS-class quests and above those jobs called Decade-quests"

Lucy: "Decade quests ?"

Erza: "They are jobs which that no one has been able to complete in less than 10 years, hence the name Decade-quest"

(Y/n): "Gildarts though took it up a notch, he took an even higher level job than that a Century-quest"

Lucy: "You gotta be kidding! Who in their right mind would take a job that lasts a hundred years"

(Y/n): "Gildarts would"

Above Magnolia, flying microphones tell everyone that Magnolia is to activate the Gildarts Shift and order everyone to go to their designated places. Back at the Guild, everyone hears the announcement.

Lucy: "What in the heck is a Magnolia Gildarts Shift anyway ?"

(Y/n): *to Carla, Wendy and Lucy* "Follow me"

The trio follows (Y/n) and stand the door of the guildhall, the entire town starts shaking scaring the girls while (Y/n) has a small grin on his face,

Carla: "Are we having a earthquake!"

The whole city moves and shifts its position so that a clear and straight path leads to Fairy Tail...

(Y/n): "This is the Gildarts Shift"

Lucy: "Magnolia... JUST SPLIT IN 2!!"

Erza: "A precautionary measure for Gildarts

Mirajane: "Since he destroys everything that he touches, it's much better for everyone if stays clear of their homes and businesses"

(Y/n): "Yeah remember that time Mira when he destroyed like 10 stores in a row, just because he got lost"

Lucy: "Like he just walks right past through them!! YOU MODIFIED THE TOWN JUST BECAUSE HE IS CLUMSY!!!"

Wendy: "He sounds amazing"

Carla: "Yes. Amazingly... stupid"

Gildarts finally walks in...

He looks around in confusion and sighs.

Natsu: "Come on you old geezer! Let's throw down!"

Elfman: *surprised* "That's no way to treat a man!"

Gildarts then walks towards Mirajane,

Mirajane: *cheerfully* "Welcome home!"

Lucy: *looking at Gildarts* "He's the most powerful guy in the guild"

Gildarts: *to Mirajane* "Sorry to bother you miss. But I'm looking for guild that used to be around these parts called Fairy Tail ?"

Mirajane: "This is it" *pointing at herself* "Remember me, Mirajane"

Gildarts: *confused* "Mira ?" *excited* "Wow! You sure have grown up a lot little girl. Did you change some stuff around the hall too ?"

Lucy: *sweatdrop* "He didn't notice that from outside ?"

Natsu: "Gildarts!"

Gildarts: "Natsu! Hey pal there's someone I recognize"

Natsu jumps towards Gildarts,

Natsu: "Good to see ya! Now let's party!"

Gildarts however simply tosses him away with one hand...

Gildarts: "Not now kid"

Lucy is shocked by this, however others aren't so much.

Natsu: *still sticking against the roof* "Oh yeah! He is still so awesome"

Gray: "Same old tough guy we've always known"

Elfman: "Genuine old fashioned man's man"

Gildarts: "I see a couple of new faces around here too. A lot has happened while I was gone"

Makarov: "Gildarts"

As I see Gildarts walks towards Pops, I notice something strange his scent is off and "Why is he walking with a limp ?"

Gildarts: "Oh master you're looking well"

Makarov: "How'd the job go ?"

Gildarts: "Hmm" *laughs rubbing his head* "No good. Way too much for me"

Everyone in the guild are shocked even (Y/n) can not believe it.

Random guild member: "No way!"

Random guild member: "But that's Gildarts!"

Random guild member: "He failed!"

Random guild member: "He is joking right ?"

Gray: "I can't believe he gave up just like that!"

Elfman: "I guess it takes a big man to admit defeat"

Lucy: "The century-quest is too much for even the strongest wizard in Fairy Tail. I wonder what it takes to finish it ?"

(Y/n): "I know what you are thinking and please just stop. A century-quest is way out of your league"

Lucy: *panicking* "OH I WASN'T THINKING AT ALL! I SWEAR! MY MIND IS TOTALLY BLANK!", "Woah is he a psychic.."

(Y/n): "And I'm not a psychic"

Lucy panics again and (Y/n) just sighs.

Makarov: "I see the job was too tough ?"

Gildarts: "Forgive me for bringing shame to the guild"

(Y/n): "For Heaven's sake! Stop with this utter nonsense, you old oaf. You are back and that's what bloody matters"

Everyone turn to look at (Y/n) who momentarily spoke in his old fancy accent and are surprised by it.

Gray: "Woah"

Elfman: "That's a fancy manly accent"

Mirajane: "My goodness (Y/n) spoke in his..."

Natsu: "Prince voice"

Mirajane: "Accent"

Erza: *blushing slightly* "He still sounds so dreamy... I meant good. He still sounds so good. That was what I meant. Totally!"

Happy: "Aye"

Lucy: "Fancy way ?"

(Y/n) realizes and has a slight blush on his face.

(Y/n): *clears throat* "I meant..." *returns to normal accent* "We are grateful you're back.... man"

Makarov: "Exactly just like (Y/n) said you're back in one piece" *grins* "And that's no small" *looks at (Y/n) and grins* "Bloody..." *back to Gildarts grinning* "Feat, as far I know. You're the only one who made the journey back home alive"

Gildarts grins at this and turns away,

Gildarts: *walking towards a nearby wall* "Thanks boss. Now I gotta I get back home and start to actually feel alive. Rest my weary bones. Oh Natsu, stop by later. I bought something back for you" *chuckles* "Well I'm outta here you guys"

Gildarts uses his magic to blast through the wall...

Lucy is shocked by this and Warren is wide eyed whereas Mirajane is cheerful,

Mirajane: "I was afraid of that"

Warren: "YOU CAN USE THE FRONT DOOR YOU KNOW!!"

Natsu: *holding his fist in flames* "Haha! Wonder what the old man got for me. I'm fired up, just thinking about it!"

Natsu mimics him and punches through the wall. Increasing Lucy's surprise further.

Max: "ONE WALL BROKEN OVER HERE IS MORE THAN ENOUGH!!"

Mirajane: "Holy goodness"

Lucy: *looks at (Y/n)* "What was that all about ?"

Mirajane: "Oh you mean..."

Carla: "For Heaven's sake"

Wendy: "Utter nonsense"

Lucy: *impersonating (Y/n)'s fancy accent* "Bloody matters"

(Y/n): "Nothing"

(Y/n) goes and folds his hands on the table and lays his head over it and sleeps.

Erza: "It was (Y/n)'s accent"

Carla: "What do you mean by (Y/n)'s accent ?"

Mirajane: "Well back when (Y/n) had joined the guild he used to speak in that accent"

Lucy: "So why did he stop, besides he sounds" *stars in her eyes* "So gentlemanly with it"

Happy: "He stopped using it so he could interact with more people"

Lucy: "Huh ?"

Puss: "If a person speaks with an accent like (Y/n)'s they usually tend to act in a better way or use better manners around them. People assume they're some sort of noble or something"

Happy: "Aye! Natsu calls it (Y/n)'s Prince voice"

Mirajane: "(Y/n) did not want to make people uncomfortable by acting unnatural to their nature or with the unnecessary manners"

Erza: "Hence why he stopped using it"

Lucy: "So are this Gildarts guy and Natsu really close or something ?"

Happy: "Aye! Gildarts is on a completely different level than Natsu but they're still pretty good friends for as long as they've known each other"

Lucy: "Oh yeah. But isn't he gone on a quest most of the time"

Happy: "Aye! But he was around the time I was born, so I've known him my whole life"

Happy begins to recount a story from when he was just a little cat,

Happy: "She didn't fish but Lisanna was with us that day"

Natsu, Happy and Lisanna were fishing by a

pond. Happy tells Natsu to catch him a big fish, but Natsu only manages to catch tiny fish. As the three cook their fish, Happy and Lisanna tease Natsu about them being a family. A little while later, Lisanna tells Natsu about some big footprints she found near the East Forest, thinking they could be from the Dragon Natsu was looking for. Even though the sun is beginning to set, the two decided to go into the forest with Happy. They arrived at the site of the footprints, but realize that the footprint belong to a Gorian, a forest Vulcan. A heart-broken Natsu, Lisanna and Happy decide to return home. Natsu is walking so fast that Lisanna is having a hard time catching up. Suddenly, the fog thickens and Natsu and Happy realized that Lisanna is no longer following them, but was captured by a Gorian that they once defeated...

The Gorian tells Natsu to kneel down and apologize and he will give Lisanna back. Natsu does what he asks, but the Gorian begins to stomp on him and is about to kill him with a giant boulder when Gildarts appears to stop him...

Gildarts uses his Magic to disassemble the boulder and orders the Gorian to put down Lisanna and leave the forest. Natsu begins to apologize, but Gildarts cuts him off and tells him that he did the right thing and to be proud. The four head home and Gildarts asks Natsu to play catch with him the following day. The next day, the two play catch and talk about Natsu finding Igneel. Lisanna and Happy are watching the two and commented that they are like father and son.

As I'm walking on the nearby bridge facing the river, I lean on the bridge and look at river glistening by the rays of the sun.

"Hmm, Gildarts also has a bridge like this near his house"

I suddenly remember about the limp he had and that strange scent, "Was that quest so hard, that he got injured this badly"

Most people in the guild didn't seem to notice but Gildarts was missing his left leg, instead wearing a prosthetic in its place. By the way his cloak was around his left side so I guess he is even missing his left arm. "I'm just grateful he is alive"

After all he is among those few people after Pops, Wakaba and Macao to actually know my mom and dad, especially Pops and Gildarts. My mom to Pops was like his daughter but to Gildarts she was like his sister, at least that's what he says...

*flashback, to the year (Y/n) had just joined the guild*

I'm sitting near a riverbank and looking at a bridge overlooking the river. All the worries in the world are gone as I stare at flowing river, glistening under the rays of the setting sun. I smile at the sight and close my eyes.

??: "Hey kid ?"

I open my eyes to see a tall, muscular man with orange hair and a light stubble wearing a dark tattered cloak, looking at me with a smile on his face.

"Hello sir. How can I help you ?"

??: "What are you doing here kid ? Just staring at the river"

I look back at the river and smile,

"I don't know sir. It just looks... peaceful"

I look at the man and am surprised to see his eyes a bit watery, but he rubs it and smiles again.

"Sir did I say something wrong ?"

??: "Nah nothing kid, just reminded me off someone. So you just going to stay here ?"

"No I have to be back, otherwise Pops will get worried"

??: "Pops ?"

"Oh the guild master of Fairy Tail, Mister Makarov Dreyar. I'm a part of it"

??: *beaming* "You are kid! Me too! The name's Gildarts what's yours"

I reply smiling, "(Y/n)(L/n) sir"

Gildarts is shocked to hear my name and looks at me in surprise and asks,

Gildarts: "(L/n)... as in. Kenneth (L/n) and Marquesa (L/n)"

Emotion suddenly stirs at me the mention of my parents name, "H-how d-do y-you know my parents ?"

Gildarts eyes become watery again,

"Mister Gildarts are you... WOAH!!"

I'm surprised as Gildarts hugs me all of a sudden,

Gildarts: "Kid forgive me. I couldn't be there for your parents. Your mother was a like a sister to me but here I am a lousy brother to her, unable to pay her kindness. But I promise this kid, I lost my sister but I won't lose..."

He lets me out of his hug, smiles and ruffles my hair,

Gildarts: "You"

I start crying not because my parents had died and left me alone, no I cried because even though they had left me. They left behind people to look after me ensuring that I will be never alone, even if they are not with me.

*flashback ends*

A stray tear falls on my hand and I look at it, "Good ol (Y/n) getting soft again"

Natsu and Happy arrive at Gildarts' house.

Natsu: *looking around the house* "Man it's a long time since we've been here"

Happy: "Seems like it's been forever"

Natsu: "So what you got for me pops ?"

Gildarts: "Nevermind. How have you and little Lisanna been getting along since I've been gone huh ?"

Natsu: "What ?"

Gildarts: "You don't have to play coy" *chuckles*

Natsu: *serious* "Lisanna died. 2 years ago"

Gildarts is surprised by this information,

Gildarts: "You're serious! I see.. that explains why Mira... My condolences"

Natsu: *turns around* "If that's all you want to talk about then I'm out" *walks towards the door*

Happy: "Natsu wait!"

Gildarts: "Listen. While I was gone, I met a dragon"

Natsu stops and turns around at the mention of the word 'Dragon'.
