《War of the Sexes》Chapter 17

I sat down next to Clayton, our bodies almost touching. He sighed, resting his forearms on his knees. I sat stiffly next to him, cautious of John only a few yards away.
“You’re not as bad as they say” Clayton mumbled, looking at the ground “Maybe its because you’re from a different time period”
“What do you mean?” I whispered, barely audible. Clayton heard though. He straightened up, his arm brushing against mine.
“You’re not mean or evil” He explained “You’re quiet and shy. The smallest things scare you, and you’ve taken more abuse than most girls would. I admire that about you”
I bit my lip, a heat coming to my cheeks. “Th-thanks”
He laughed “And you stutter when you’re nervous or scared.”
“I’m sorry?” I asked, not sure if I should be or not.
“Don’t be” He grinned “Its… interesting”
I felt my blush deepen as I looked away, trying desperately to drop the conversation. I wasn’t one to take compliments. I felt myself blushing every time. That was my instant reaction to them.
Clayton sighed again, trying to get my attention. I peeked at him through my hair, holding back a smile.
“I’m sorry about John” He said.
I nodded, not really sure what to say.
“He can’t get it through his mind people are different.” Clayton explained “I know I treated you terribly in the beginning, but I never had the hate for girls that John had.”
“I understand” I whispered.
He nodded, yawning.
“Clayton?” I whispered. “Can I ask you something?”
He nodded “Anything”
“Wh…what happens if you find an animal?”
He looked at me curiously “You take it to the Breeding Station”
“What’s that?”
He snorted “Its where we breed the animals to try and bring back any of the population. Its one of the few things the Girls are helping us with”

I noticed the way he said the word ‘girl’´ was much different from John’s tone. I preferred Clayton’s tone more.
“What if you don’t want to take it there?”
“Ellie…” He trailed off “What are you getting at?”
“Nothing” I said, wrapping my arms around my knees “Just nothing”
Clayton didn’t say anything else. We sat in silence for a while, our breathing the only sound in the forest. The tension was thick in the air. I was thankful Clayton didn’t know what to make of our kiss. At the same time, I wish he would say something about it.
It felt weird without us bringing it up.
Clayton stood up, his joints cracking. “Let’s go see if John’s cooled down any”
I followed in his lead, getting to my feet and walking after him. Clayton must’ve known the way back for I realized I had traveled a lot farther than I had imagined.
After a few minutes of walking, we finally reached out destination. John sat on the ground, legs crossed, head buried in his hands. I stood cautiously behind Clayton, hoping I was hidden from view.
“Hey man, you alright now?” Clayton asked his a soft voice.
John sighed, moving his hands away. His eyes were focused on the ground, hair covering most of his face. “Yeah, I’m fine”
“Alright.” Clayton sounded relieved. “We need to get Ellie something to wear”
I bit my lip, feelings self-conscience. After all, I was wearing my underwear and a bra. That was it.
“She’s not using something of mine” John snapped.
“I get that dude” Clayton said, trying to keep John’s temper down. “What I’m saying is we have to go back and get her something to wear”
“We can’t dude, you know that”
“We have no choice”

“Yes we do. We just don’t go”
“I’m not doing that, man.” Clayton growled “What has she done to you? Nothing! Absolutely nothing!”
John grumbled something under his breath turning away from us. “Whatever. Give her my stupid jacket.”
Clayton grinned in victory, grabbing John’s jacket. He passed it over to me. I slipped it on, trying to zipper it again. As I looked down, I noticed that it was already on me.
John snorted. His gaze fell on me, eyes calling me stupid. “This isn’t the 21st century anymore. We’re advanced. Jackets zip themselves up now”
I narrowed my eyes slightly annoyed with his attitude. He was so full of himself. I looked at Clayton and found myself looking into a pair of eyes.
He smiled “Warmer?”
I nodded. “thank you”
“You better be grateful” John muttered just loud enough for me to hear. Clayton glared at him, kicking his shin. John grunted in pain.
I turned around, walking over to a patch of dry land. I sat down, holding my knees to my chest. I shivered slightly, thankful that I had John’s jacket around me.
He glared at me, eyes sending chills down my spine. I averted my eyes, careful not to look his way.
“So, Ellie” Clayton said, sitting down next to me “John and I have been thinking, and we really only have a few options to chose from”
“For what?” I whispered. What were they going to do? Were they going to go back to beating me? Was Clayton defending me for nothing?
“Well, we can’t have you staying with us forever” Clayton sighed “You’re the enemy. They’ll kill us all if we’re found hiding you”
“Oh..” I felt guilt wash through me “I-I’m sorry!”
“You should be Leech!” John growled at me. I cowered back slightly.
Clayton glared at John before continuing “Don’t be. You aren’t from this era.”
I nodded, refusing to respond. John snorted rolling his eyes. Clayton shot him another look.
“Anyways” Clayton cleared his throat “We can either let you go now or we can take you to someone who will get you to the Girl’s Side”
“I vote we ditch the bitch” John said.
I groaned, frustrated with him.
“You got something to say?” John growled at me. I blinked, looking up. John
had stood up and was towering over me, fists clenched.
My mouth grew dry all of the sudden. I opened it to response. Nothing came out.
I closed it, shaking my head no.
“That’s what I thought”
Clayton flipped John off, looking at me “Just ignore him. He’s mad because he didn’t get his way for once in his life”
I let out a laugh.
John threw a stone at me.

The Cosmic Interloper
Synopsis: A cyborg transhuman escapes her corporate indenture and through unfathomably unlikely circumstances, she ends up in a fantasy world of full of unique magic, angry people with sharp implements, and the whole flavor-spectrum of divine entities. Hilarity ensues. Features: - No blue boxes or cultivation, this is not a LitRPG nor about martial arts - Hard-ish Sci-Fi meets hard-ish magic - Generally trying to keep this "rational" Rationale: My primary goal with The Cosmic Interloper is to write something that I myself would enjoy reading. Of course, that’s not the only motivation, but I think it’s the most important one for me to keep in mind, especially as the author. In fact, this whole story came about because after consuming oodles of fiction, I found myself craving a very specific type of story which I couldn’t find many examples of. Then I asked myself, “why not write it myself?” and here we are. Disclaimer: In general, while I’m not writing a comedy, I do intend for this story to be funny and a bit wacky or absurd. That said though, I am using this story as a vehicle to explore some potentially dark topics including (but not limited to) slavery, speciesism/racism, and existential questions of self, consciousness, and identity. Still, I’m going to leave the “traumatizing content” tags off, because I don’t feel that what I’ve written so far (or plan on writing) exceeds the threshold that would be necessary for me to tag it thusly. Also, [insert your favorite boilerplate “views expressed” disclaimer here]. I shouldn’t need to say this, but the main character can be wrong on occasion (gasp!) and the way she views the world is not the objective truth (if such a thing even exists).

Humanity's End
Given a year to prepare by the mysterious ‘system’ for contact with the wider galaxy, humanity must work to ensure the Earth’s defense is ready to meet any challenge. Sadly, most of the world seems dedicated to tearing itself apart as the year-end deadline gets closer. The west is in barely contained Chaos, while the east descends into internal conflict and war. The Pillar Forts, one of the few successful projects of the United Nations headed by the United States, stand ready to defend humanity against any invasion that may come through the strange Connection Pillars that appeared on each continent. Massive steel and stone walls that surround the Connection Pillars. They are filled with deadly men and women trained in all manner of warfare, each trained in the newly acquired System with skills and magical abilities that they put to deadly purpose. Beside these brave warriors, tanks, helicopters, artillery and more stand ready to defend humanity at each of these powerful installations. But, can they overcome the disparity in levels and experience between themselves and the forces that threaten them and the rest of humanity? Main Characters Jessica Brown- A young African American girl. Her 18th birthday in Detroit was the same day the systems message appeared. She discovered she was Level 7, much higher than most of the rest of the world. Why she is blessed, or cursed, with the power she doesn’t know. But what she does know is that she rather likes the feeling that comes with manipulating magic. The week after her birthday, government workers started testing every person in the US in a massive census effort of skills and abilities. Jessica Brown found herself conscripted into the US Magical Corp, a new branch of the US Military, and shipped off to a Pillar Fort. Somewhere hot and muggy in her ancestors’ home of Africa. As she grows stronger, she finds she has some connection to the pillars. While everyone else sees beauty or danger when they look at the pillars, after connection is made all Jessica can see is a Tree. A tree the size of the entire universe. Isaka Smith - is a third generation American and farmer who just wants to be left alone. But she is dragged into the situation by events beyond her control. When people in her small town had to deal with rioters and looters after the system announcement, she rallied them to defend themselves, earning her a trait that the government found extraordinarily useful. After a visit to a local reservation, she finds herself conscripted to lead one of the many small support towns erected around the great pillar forts. Not near her old home, but in far-flung Africa. John McIntire, the “Fighting Bull” -The commander of the African Fort, but because of circumstances beyond his ability to contend with shortly after taking command after being re-activated from retirement, he finds communication with his chain of command increasingly difficult. The US government, hell, even the United Nations, seems to have fallen into complete and utter chaos. The African Union is embroiled in a bitter civil war just outside his door, and supposedly, most of the world governments are in similar situations. Meanwhile, John must do his best to be ready to facilitate diplomacy, or to match the hostile argument of whatever force might come through the pillar of light when the year timer finishes counting down. Can our heros defend Earth from outside threats, while it tares itself apart? Or will they need to rebuild from the ground up? DEDICATION: This story is dedicated to my father who passed away recently. Jim Holloway, you’ll be missed you old silverback gorilla. Love you dad. Always have, always will.

Tale of the mage hero [Completed]
so I've been into rising of the shield hero for a while now... a lot of things about it ALWAYS bugged me starting with the fact that the world functions like a game and the heroes are supposed to fight together in a party.... BUT WHERE'S THE ARCHMAGE?! THE BLATANT DISRESPECT TO THE MAGE CLASS IS REAL AND ANGERING! so I decided as a gamer who rather enjoys being a mage and healer, I'd rectify that. and other things. for all intents and purposes this is a self insert but I will be using my proxy OC that I use in my nutty fangirl daydreams. DON'T WORRY! I'M NERFING MY PROXY! this will follow the plot of the anime because..... I want to. and I'm..... LAZY~! and using the manga is too much trouble and the light novel is 800+ chapters long. So FUCK THAT! anyways if you read this and think it's lackluster then I want to see you try your hand at writing tate no yuusha fics! no that's not a challenge or insult it's just a desperate plea for more tate fics... we need some more variety! Alright I'm gonna be honest here. This story is laughably bad. So read at your own risk. The only reason I'm not revising it is because 1 I'm Lazy as fuck and 2 to serve as a lesson on what NOT to do for new writers. So like I said, read at your own risk.
