War of the Sexes Chapter 1

"Shut up guys!" I whisper to the couple behind me. The moon casts a small light off into the hallway, revealing only half of their faces.
Jim only rolls his eyes so I can see, sending the hidden message. Why did we bring them along?
Jim's father works at a secret warehouse that the government supposedly doesn't employee. All the workers officially do not exist in the government data-base. Any second, the warehouse could be blown to pieces without any warning.
Of course that's only the rumors.
Honestly, they're simply experimenting with time travel. Not exactly time travel, just the possibility of freezing people and thawing them out years later. But for lack of a better term, time travel.
Jim's father has been experimenting with eight different pods. Six of them were full of people already, waiting to be thawed out in nine years. There were two others left. Jim had been training to take over his father's job for sometime now so he knew pretty much all the ropes.
And this is where the fun comes in
Jim intends to have one of us hid in the pod, and then tomorrow while his father is giving a board meeting, we'll pop out and scare the shit out of all of them.
And guy who's the lucky one who gets to do that?
"Guys come on" Jim whispered, motioning for us to follow him into a room.
I shushed the love birds behind me, Sam and Hannah. They were madly in love and were sooo going to ruin this prank.
Jim quickly closed the door behind us when we entered the room, keeping the lights off. A faint glow rose from the eight pods lined up against the
side of the wall. The room otherwise was pitch black.
Jim walked over to the second pod from the end, leaning over and fiddling with the buttons.

I turned to face the other two "You better keep yourselves quiet. If you ruin my fun, I'll hurt you both. Painfully"
Jim chuckled, standing up "Alright, Ellie, You should be good"
I sighed, shaking my body. I wasn't going to move for a good fourteen hours. Jim motioned me over to the pod, to which I obliged
"Alright. Its not going to turn on, but once they're in the room, don't move" Jim said, opening the pod door for me.
I smiled at him slightly, stepping inside.
"You're going to hear a click and fell pressure. But don't worry. I'll fix that in a matter of seconds"
I nodded, getting myself comfy inside the cramped pod.
"You sure you want to do this, Ellie?" Jim asked
I nodded, knowing I needed this fun.
Jim nodded, lips pressed tightly together. My eyes flickered over to Sam and Hannah who were staring aimlessly into each other's eyes. I looked
back at Jim, noticing that he was looking at me.
Quickly, I leaned forward, pressing my lips gently onto his.
Even with my eyes shut, I knew Jim's were wide open. His lips didn't move out of shock. Slowly, they thawed, and began to move with mine.
I pulled away, already embarrassed by my actions.
"Just, ya know, for luck" I smiled stupidly at him
He grinned back "Yeah. For luck"
Jim leaned forward, wrapping his arms around my waist. His lips hovered above mine, so very close. I could feel them move as he spoke.
"Maybe one more?" He whispered.
My stomach was doing summersaults. My two-year crush on my best friend... finally. I bit my lips, hiding my eyes behind my bangs.
"I don't see how that could hurt" I whispered, trying to be as quiet as possible so the other two didn't hear.

Jim grinned, pressing his lips once more against mine.
"Awww!" Hannah squealed from across the room. Jim and I pulled apart, a blush creeping onto both of our cheeks.
"Uhh..." Jim said "I was uh.. .checking to make sure something was.. uh...."
"You two would be so adorable!" Hannah said, running over to pinch my cheek. "I can see it now! The next biggest thing since Brad and Lindsey got
together!"
"Hannaaahh!" I whined
"What? You two ARE totally clichéd and adorable" She grinned, pinching Jim's.
"Hannah..it was....just.... for luck"
She cooed again, Sam finally coming up and grabbing her attention "Hey baby, let them have their moment"
"Saaaam!" Jim and I whined at the same time
They laughed, moving off. Hannah turned around and mouthed 'adorable' at us.
Jim rolled his eyes, looking back at me, face still red.
"Well... that was uh..."
"Yeah" I giggled
"Alright." He said, a hand resting on the door. "If you need anything... start pounding. There's a red latch on the side if you absolutely need to get out
for any reason, but otherwise you should be good"
"Ok" I breathed.
Jim closed the door slowly, giving me any chance to back down. There was a loud click and sure enough, I felt a pressure that nearly knocked me
onto the ground. I leaned against the back of the pod for support.
And then everything went black.

Vemödalen: From The Other Side
War is coming - And when it comes - And where it comes - And whence it comes - The living shall envy the dead One to carry their sword in the name of their goddess and lady, to protect their land and people against the threat of the wicked. They know their path to be the righteous one. One to roam the land, hunting for all apparitions, and be scorned by man and beast alike. They know their path to be an arduous one. One to wander the realm in search of power, to protect themselves and what they believe in. They know their path to be the only one. Writers note: The first chapter will set the standard in terms of mood for the remainder of the story. It also comes to no surprise to me that half the people who read the first part stop reading any further. It has quite a bit of the good ‘ol ‘ultra-violence’ mixed with a great deal of realism. As much as I could fit into it from my own knowledge and experience in the elite forces. The first few chapters will be slow, after, but starting from ‘Restless Destroyer’ the remainder of the world will start to open up, and when we hit ‘Adronitis’ the prologue is largely finished. The novel is well thought out and filled with hidden lore, culture, history. So even if my word choice appears random – it’s not. There is a reason why these chapters take as long as they do. Vermodalen is fantasy adventure, with magic and heroics in an as realistic setting as I could fit. Things are rarely what they seem, and the ugly nature of people bleed through the letters at the turn of every page. I hope you can give this story a fair chance, even if it isn’t immediately to your taste. Lastly, english isn't my first language. It isn't my second one either. So, if you find errors in grammer and spelling, wordplay and sentance building, do let me know, and you will be rewarded by a surge of dopamine that will be released inside your brain for helping someone whom you haven't even seen or heard.

Shaman
*** Let's get this clear now: the MC is a trans woman. This is not a gender-bender. It's set in a fantasy world but the exploration of identity and gender is reality-based. Not a joke, not a kinky turn-on. If this is a problem for you, please just act like an adult and look elsewhere for something to read. *** Rating breakdown, since that should be public info: 2 x 5*, 1 x 4.5*, 1 x 3*, no reasons offered. A human shaman and healer returns from several years with the mysterious shyani, accompanied by her shapeshifting puma best friend. A valued friend, from her previous identity as a male student physician, has acquired an old shyani book, and extremists will not tolerate its presence in human hands. But back in human lands, the question arises: which world does she belong in? Generations ago, human explorers found a continent inhabited by an utterly alien culture of shapeshifting weyres and the shyani, humanoids who prefer dusk and dawn. A truce of sorts was eventually reached: humans claimed the rich lowlands, and the shyani and weyres retain the highlands. Along the border, practicality often rules, but on either side, old grudges linger in some hearts. As a student physician, Corin tried to take his own life, unable to bear the countless tiny wounds inflicted over twenty-one years of lying to himself in order to be, or pretend to be, socially acceptable. At the last improbable instant, intervention came, in the form of a spirit fox, who led him away from the existence he’d known in the lowlands and into the highlands. There, a puma weyre rescued him, and a shyani shaman helped him find his true self and offered a rebirth, a life with no more lies, and an important role to fill. Now a shaman and healer in her own right, Vixen who was once Corin learns that the one human who mattered to her in her previous life, then a fellow University student, has come into possession of an old shyani book, and the more fanatical shyani and weyres will stop at nothing to reclaim it and punish Jared. Even though it means going back into the lowlands and facing Jared as a woman, she can’t bear to just look the other way. This should be a short visit, just long enough to see the book into the proper hands and make sure Jared will not be killed for having it, and then she can return to the shyani community that has accepted her as their shaman. And, of course, her feline best friend Dayr insists on coming with her. But Jared is now a Lord, with considerable wealth and power, and his response to her presence isn’t one she expected. After years living with the shyani, she sees everything around her from a new perspective, and that makes it difficult to keep to the plan of making as few waves as possible. As an honoured guest in a highborn house, with only Jared aware that she has ever been anyone else, Vixen finds herself questioning where she belongs: with Dayr and the shyani, who accept her gender without question but have to make allowances for her differences, or with humans, in the culture she grew up in even though her past would mean a major scandal? *** Trigger warning: there are scenes of Vixen's previous life, which include some difficult moments and culminate in an (obviously unsuccessful) attempt at suicide before she finds her true self and a better life. Please be careful! This is the ONLY reason for the "Traumatising Content" tag.*** Complete stand-alone novel, 96K words. Also available on Scribble Hub and as a free ebook.
