《Devil in My Heart》Side Story of Leona

I was born as a half asura being. My mother is human. My father is an asura. Sometimes I walk among people, they insult me. In fact, their humiliation was because they were afraid of me. When I walked among the asuras, some of them mocked me as a weak mixed being. My mother was also subjected to harsh treatment from the villagers.
Painful. But I persisted because it was my father and mother who strengthened me. Once, they accused us that it was my father who attacked the village and injured people. Baseless slander. I saw it with my own eyes. Arrows and stabs pierced him. The nets entangled him.
"Leona. Get away. Run!" Words are spoken by the father. "Please take care of your mother." Looking back, he smiled at us who were running away, and my mother was carrying me.
My father confronted the villagers who ran amok with no clear evidence. However, father held on to protect us. And tried to attack occasionally but didn't hurt them as badly as they did my father. Even if you want to explain, people don't want to hear. Are they blind-hearted?
A long time ago, my father advised me, "Never hurt and insult other beings." Those are the words I've held onto as long as my parents were alive.
I live with my mother. Not long after, my mother got sick.
"Please. Can I buy this medicine?" That's how I beg.
"You don't have enough money. Go there."
"I beg of you. My mother is dying."
He also chased and shouted at me.
I'm confused. I strive to look for here and there. But they didn't want to give.
Pitiful. In confusion, I don't know what to do, but I still hope that my mother gets better. Then there is a kind person who wants to give medicine. I went home happy and full of hope. But my dying mother said a few words, "My dear child... Be strong and keep heeding your father's advice." She spoke haltingly.
My mother breathed her last. I just sat and sobbed trying to be strong.
Then, I grew up to be a strong girl. At that time, again, someone was looking for trouble and slandering me. They thought they could destroy me. I know their hatred for asuras, but it should not be the reason to act arbitrarily. Don't because of their hatred for one race, then innocent beings will suffer the consequences.

They threw stones at the hut and set it on fire. Blasphemed with harsh words, "Die, damn you!" I walked out slowly, full of anger. While holding the sword in my right hand and glowing red eyes, I muttered, "Kill... kill..."
I swung the sword without mercy. Nothing escapes my eyes. I stepped on their corpses. Some are still alive, I grabbed his neck, "I have never bothered and disturbed you. Why are you interfering with my life? Hah??!!!" The person was frightened, and I immediately dropped him and ended his life.
There are two types of beings when experiencing suffering. The first is that he becomes a being who loves and has compassion for other beings because he knows the feeling of suffering and does not want other beings to suffer. Therefore, he became strong to be able to protect the weak.
But for beings of the second kind. He hates creatures and considers them enemies.
"Father... Mother... I'm sorry for not being able to heed your last advice." The words that came out of my lips.
"I realized I was wrong. I shouldn't have done this."
Then his father's words echoed, "Dear daughter. Strength is to protect. It is not used to hurt others. Therefore, you must be strong to defend the weak."
But I can't control this great power of mine. I went into the dark. I am getting proud and more arrogant about the power I have. So, I challenge any asuras. I was able to read the magic power they had; therefore, I had enough courage.
The reason behind me challenging their power was to find an asura that could awaken and lift me from the darkness.
One time I met a man.
Tap... tap... the sound of footsteps of a person who looked like a human coming from the opposite direction and wearing a straw hat walked through the village. I peeked at his figure but didn't see his face clearly. For some reason, I feel attracted to him. But I also just walked away.
I ended up walking into the forest and flying into the gathering of asuras. After reading their magic power, I challenged them. There are local asuras who like to fight. They were also interested in my reward for being a servant to those who could defeat me. It didn't take long for the asuras to lose badly. But among them was the boss who appeared later.

"What kind of aura is this?" I thought. "I didn't feel it earlier, did he cover up his magic power on purpose?"
A large body in the form of a salamander. He breathed fire at me and spewed out the poison that made it hard for me to breathe. I also lost badly. I accepted him as my new master, but I had no luck. Even though I lose, he still tortured me. Maybe this is the karma for my arrogance.
Then came a male voice saying, "Let go of that woman."
I lifted my head which was down on the ground to see who the hell this person was.
Turns out he was the guy I met in the village!
The asuras over there laughed. Hahaha.
I knew they were mocking him because I who was injured like this could still read the magic power he had, and I didn't feel it from him. He's like a normal human.
He did not hesitate to challenge them.
"Go ahead, everyone."
I can't see his movement. All the gang of asuras fell and left the boss salamander.
He also faced with bare hands against the boss. The final blow, he hit from above hitting the salamander's back. The ground cracked down due to the hard impact.
Then this man said, "Hand over the potion, or I will remove it through the incision from your body."
"What... How ... how can that be?" Salamander said.
"Don't underestimate people by their appearance," replied him.
Suddenly, I woke up. Because I'm just like that salamander. He helped me and gave me the potion. Once I had the strength to move, I followed him away.
He was still in the forest and realized that I was following him.
"Come out. I know you're there."
I came out from behind the tree.
"Why did you follow me?"
His cold voice blew in my ear.
"Thank you for saving me. Please make me your servant. I made a challenge and because you were able to defeat him, I am now your servant."
"I have no intention of restraining other beings. You are free to go anywhere."
For a moment I was fascinated by his figure...
"I... I wish there is an asura that can control the power within me."
"Others can only give the instructions and guide them. But it depends on you who take the control of yourself completely."
"Then teach me. Teach me to be an asura who isn't arrogant. I live a nomadic life. My life is not clear. I'm getting worse and worse, so I make that challenge which only harms me if you don't save me.
He turned around.
I was amazed by his figure. The god-like figure.
"Up to you."
My heart felt happy as if I saw a hope of light that I hadn't seen in a long time since my parents died.
I was brought into the castle of the demon lord named Tyrone.
Welcome to join us. He welcomed me warmly. But somehow, I felt scared. Was it because of the strong magic pressure from him?
Over there I also met Leander. A creature that manifestation as the lion same as me. He is warm and caring.
But I give more attention to Lucien. I like him. One day, I confessed my feelings to him. But he has no special feelings for me. Even so, I still secretly have a crush on him.
However, there is a human who was able to get close and smile with Lucien. Things I can't do. I envy and hate that person. It felt like he was going to snatch something precious from me even though I knew I couldn't have Lucien. I realized I was selfish.

Adagio of the Enlightened
The Elders will tell you the stories and lore. Of our ancestors, their deeds, and of the foes of yore. They will praise to you the chariot, and how it flew to the stars. How it stole the sun's light and slew the night’s roar. The Shamans will tell you the tales of their wisdom. Their wars on schism, and the unlettered world of ours before. Perhaps they will sing you the songs of what our clans' ancient customs tore. Poems of how our ancestors took what the discs had offered them, the manna and the mundane, and made it more. The kings will tell you of the follies, the sins, and the anecdotes of all our ancestors' wrongs. They will curse to you their names, the Ender of Fate and the Ruined Song. How they had dug up the hearts of the discs, euchred its relics, and blasphemed its prophecies, with oracles withdrawn. But they will only tell you the legends, recount the myths, and sing the allegories washed ashore. The Elders, the Shamans, and the kings can only retell what the storytellers of their own time had voiced. What they have read in books or heard in the minstrels' songs they adore. They don't know what really happened. They were never there. They can't tell you how our ancestors slew the angels from the sky, and sent them back to where they belonged. How they poisoned our minds, and made our people slothful and feeble, with the reforms they had undergone. But I can.I can tell you how the Ender of Fate severed destiny's strings, weakened them, and weaved them to our feeble flesh and souls.I can tell you how the Ruined song razed the heavens with her blood-stained melody, and reshaped our hell into utopia, with the deaths she deplored.Because I was there. I can tell you the truth, with my virtue strong. ----> Disclaimer: This will be a slow-burn, character-driven, non-harem, slice-of-life web novel with cultivation and kingdom-building elements. The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves.
