Asuras are described as power-seeking clans related to the more benevolent Devas (gods). The asuras are in a battle with the devas. Asuras are described as powerful demigods with good or bad qualities. The word asura is sometimes translated as "titan", or "demigod". Furthermore, the benevolent gods are called Devas, while malevolent compete against these Devas are called Asuras.
