He hated the living. He hated the fact that everyone around him is beaming with life and no where close to death. He dreaded the moments in matches where he doesn't get the chance to embalm someone because of how good the kiters are on his teams. He hates a survivor the most. Aesop was a regular man, as regular as someone who is obsessed with the dead as him. He loves to make the deceased look beautiful, capturing their essence as the sleep for eternity.
"Aesop! There you are! I've been looking all over for you!" The last person he wanted to see was standing at the end of the hallway, waving her hands around as she skipped her way towards him. "We have a match together in a hour or so! It's with William and Tracy!" He face was glowing as she beamed happily, of course she was in a match with her friends, who have shown to favour her when it comes to rescuing last minute to preserve time and decoding. This trio knew what to do when it comes to doing what's best.
"Go away." Aesop slammed his door as the girl was standing right by it. He just walked out and now he's back in because he doesn't want to see people. The girls lips went downwards a little bit from the cold shoulder, nonetheless she smiled again and left to find her friends to strategize the upcoming match.
_______ wasn't the best kiter, she stood strong as a support character like Eli or Emily. She decodes decently and tries her best in ever match no matter how many times she gets hit. Which is what makes Aesop hate her the more, she's too alive for his taste. The girl wandered off to who knows where, discovering parts of the manor that's never changed, entering the kitchen to find William and Tracy stuffing their faces.
"Hey _____!" The forward yelled through a mouthful of food, leaving the poor girls to laugh as part of the bread crumbs fall the the floor.
"Did you...you know, tell him?" Tracy asked, the female. She knew what she meant, nodding her head lightly, ______ walked over to grab a toast to stuff her face.
"He gave me the cold shoulder again but I think he's warming up! He looked at me in the eyes before scoffing!" The female beamed at her answer, the other 2 giving a confused look and shrugged their shoulders in response.
"Whatever floats your boat sis." William said patting her head. The trio sat and enjoyed themselves and plan on what to do for the next hour, knowing ahead that their map is going to be eversleeping town, with lots of building to hide in.

The team was in the map, struggling to find cipher machines to decode. _______ was able to find on by the grave yard. She stood there decoding as fast as she can, hearing 2 others pop off in the distance signalling her friends where they are. All on the other side of the map leaving her alone. She quietly went back to typing away on the machine. Around 89% of the decoded machine, did the survivor hear a voice call out her name.
"Hello there ______." The survivor stopped her deciding to see the man with gray hair and dark clothing standing a few meters away from her. The girl smiled at the reunion, ready to jump the male.
"Aesop! I'm so glad to see you! I've been hiding in this corner of the map the whole time and I still haven't seen anyone, not even the hunter!" The paler man said nothing as another machine popped off, there was only one left. The one standing beside them. "Aesop...?" The girl asked the man as he continued to stand there unfazed. "H-hey Buddy...are you o-okay..?" She asked a hand moving forward, only to be grabbed by the wrist hard by the gloved man.
"Don't you know when to shut up?" He lifted his head to glare at the survivor. His silver eyes dulled as his grip tightened, slowly he walked forward. The other survivor slowly back up as a result until her back hit the wall.
"A-Aesop...this isn't funny.....we still h-have one c-cipher left...." the female trembled as Aesop dropped his make up box on the ground beside them. Aesop closed the distance between them until he was in her face, staring down at her trembling form.
"I hate you. I absolutely hate it when you breathe." He said darkly, both of his hands gripped onto her wrists to hold her down. Aesop was starting to lose his patience with her. "You never shut up, never know when to stop, I hate how you are beaming with life to the point I wanted to end you myself. I'm tired of seeing your face glow wherever you go. You're so...alive I'm sick of it! I wish you would just die!" Aesop's grip tightened even further, causing the female to thrash in his grip. She slipped from the wall and hit the ground, hearing her back crack upon impact. The wind knocked out of her lungs.
Aesop didn't let go. His nails dug through the fabric of his gloves, starting to cut both himself and the survivor underneath him. He slowly let go of his grip only to put her wrists together to be held down. Aesop was going insane, his eyes darkened as his mask slowly slipped off. Revealing a creepy smile as he sat down on the females stomach.

"A-Aesop...what's going o-on..!?" _______ struggles to let out her words, a much larger man was restraining her, and giving her breathing problems. She can hear the screams of her friends as they ask what was going on, unable to reply back to ask for help. Aesop took his free hand and slowly pressed down on _______'s neck.
"Die. Die. Die! DIE!" He chanted over and over again pressing harder as the seconds went on. Both of his hands pressed on her throat as _______ struggled to break free from his grip. Her airway was blocked and slowly started to lose consciousness as the seconds turned to minutes. Her hands tried their best to get the death grip off her neck to give some sort of release to take in a quick breath, and as time passed, her vision slowly went dark.
Until the sound of terror shock rung.
Aesop's grip disappeared as soon as that, the female survivor started to cough badly as her brain finally started to receive oxygen. A hand slowly held her up to check her status.
"M-Mary..?" The girl coughed as the hunter held her up. Mary looked saddened at the view in front of her, she slowly started the rub the survivors back in comfort as she tried to get the other 2 to come over.
Not much longer, the pants of both William and Tracy showed up. The duo panicked at the sight in front of them. Their friend almost unconscious laying against the hunters body and Aesop injured from terror shock.
"What happened?!" Tracy yelled in confusion, her heart beating quickly.
"I found the gray one choking your own teammate." Mary spat at the embalmer. She didn't want to put him in a rocket chair, well aware he has a coffin laying somewhere around the map.
"Where is his coffin at? I'm going to make sure he doesn't escape." Mary said in a angry tone, handing the weak survivor to the forward. William was quick to pull out a water bottle to help ease the coughing for _______.
"I saw it not far on my way here. It's somewhere near the gate to the dancing geisha." Tracy pointed out, Mary nodded in response and took Aesop away. Throwing him onto a chair as he automatically embalms himself, the hunter walked away to where his coffin stood.
"Are you okay? What happened?" Tracy and William asked the poor survivor.
"H-he....h-he told me h-how much he h-hates me....and h-how much he w-wanted m-me to d-die...." _______ said slowly, still drinking the water and taking deep breathes. Her hand subconsciously touched her neck with her fingers, still feeling the tight grip of the gloves wrapped around it.
"I'm going to bash his skull next time I see him." William said quietly, immediately receiving a light slap to the back of the head from Tracy.
"Let's just decode and get out so Emily can check on ______. Stay here ok? And rest up we'll deal with the rest of the match." Tracy smiles at her friend, ______ nodded not wanting to do anything. Her body was deprived of oxygen and it's taking a toll on her right now. William gave her a pat on the shoulder and helped her lean against one of the head stones while Tracy was decoding. In the distance, the trio can hear the screams of their other teammate as his rocket chair flew off back to the manor. _______ Stared at the dark sky, her breathing finally going back to normal.
She felt tired as the forward picked her up, throwing her body up against his back. The survivor held onto her friend as they make their way to the exit gate, Tracy entering the passcode as fast as she can. They didn't know where Mary was, but at this point, they figured that she was letting them off the hook after what she found. The exit gates slowly opened as Tracy and William walked through, walking the distance back to the manor.

"He did what now?!" Emily yelled out loud, the poor survivors held their hands over their ears as the doctor screamed her head off.
"He was trying to strangle her. I don't know where he is right now but when I find him, he can't embalm himself and look recognizable." William scoffed as he crossed his arms.
"My god, go get Eli and do it. The seer can see everything after all. Before that, get everyone into a meeting. We need to sort this out because this is insane and outrageous." Emily demanded, the 2 leaving as soon as she pointed to the exit doors of the infirmary. "My god, I'm going to lose my mind by the end of this." Emily was giving off heavy sighs as she wrapped the survivors neck. "Make sure to stay off talking as much as possible. Come in the check with me every day after lunch alright?" Emily said quietly as she finished up the medical taping. The survivor nodded her head as the doctor let her walk out.
_______ walked down the hallways of the manor, traumatized. After today, she was never the same happy go lucky girl, just a quiet girl who did nothing more then what was needed for survival in the horrors of the manor she resides in.

This book is now available on Amazon! https://www.royalroad.com/amazon/B09H5CQSX5 For legal reasons, I need to hide most of the content from Royal Road for now. The version for sale is revised and expanded anyway, including a rewritten opening. If the book does well, that's encouragement to write more of it soon! Reviews are welcome too. As noted in the afterward, it's been fun and useful to share this work with all of you here as I worked on it. Update 2022/2/22: Wow, it did do well! Thanks to all who read, commented, bought, and/or spread the word. Right now I'm working on a side-story about character Selen, and posting that starting yesterday. I do plan to do a true sequel this year, yet.
