"enjoying the view miss?" mayabang na tanong sa akin ng lalaking nasa harapan ko.
Inirapan ko lang siya at umayos na sa pagkakaupo.
"do you usually do this with your boss?" mapag usisang tanong ni RM
"we're bestfriends and yes, we normally do this", deretsong sagot ni Marco
Umupo si RM sa kaliwa ko habang nasa kanan ko naman si Marco.
"let's just drink until we're wasted guys. Sir, give us 5 shots each please." turan ko sa bartender at agad niya naman akong sinunod.
Uminom nga kami ng uminom, mag eeleven na ngunit madami paring tao sa bar, naramdaman ko nalang ang biglang pagbagsak ng ulo ni Marco sa balikat ko, buti nalang at nasalo ko dahil kung hindi, malamang nabagok na ito.
"uuwi na kami sir Reigan", baling ko sa lalaking titig na titig sa akin ngayon. Nakakaintimidate pero wala akong pakialam, ang inaalala ko lang ngayon ay ang pag-uwi namin ni Marco.
"ihahatid ko na kayo", alok sa akin ni RM pero umiling ako. Kaya ko pa naman magdrive, iyon nga lang, hindi ko kayang buhatin ang lalaking mahimbing ang tulog sa tabi ko.
"pakisamahan nalang ako sa pagdala sa kanya sa sasakyan", pakiusap ko kay RM, agad naman siyang tumayo at dinaluhan ako, actually, siya na ang nagbuhat kay Marco, napakahina naman talaga nito pagdating sa alak. Tsk tsk tsk
"i can drive you both home" offer ulit ni RM, hindi na ako tumanggi sa pagkakataong ito dahil naramdaman ko nadin ang pagkahilo, babalikan nalang nmin ang sasakyan ni Marco bukas tutal kilala naman siya ng may-ari ng PTB. Uupo na sana ako sa likod pero sinabi ni RM na ayaw niyang magmukhang driver kaya sa frontseat ako umupo. No choice.
"happy birthday", wika niya sabay abot ng isang maliit na kahon. Nagulat ako, una, dahil alam niyang kaarawan ko, pangalawa, may regalo?.

Binuksan ko ang maliit na box na dark red ang kulay, bumungad sa akin ang kwintas na may letrang V at nakatrace ang mga nasa sampung maliliit na dyamante rito. Nakakamangha. Totoo kaya ito? Hahaha.
"salamat, hindi kana dapat nag-abala pa, paano mo nalaman na birthday ko?" nagtataka kong tanong.
Hindi siya sumagot. Don't tell me. Tss. Buti nalang naayos ko na ang background ko kasabay ng pagpapalit ko ng pangalan, pagkagraduate na pagkagraduate ko, binago ko ang pangalan ko, nagpabago ako ng aking mga records na galing sa school na pinag aralan ko, lahat. I lived by the name Valerie.
"minsan, pwede mo nalang tanungin sa akin, wag kana mag background check. Open naman akong tao eh", medyo naiiritang dagdag ko
"pasensiya na, gusto ko lang naman isurprise ka", sagot niya habang nakatuon padin ang mata sa daanan

Agad naman niyang itinabi ang kanyang kotse at saka ako pinagbuksan, no choice, hindi ko kayang buhatin mag isa si Marco kaya inakay ni Reigaan sa kanan at ako naman sa kaliwa.
"didn't know, you live in a very prestigious condo", manghang turan ni RM habang papasok kaming tatlo sa elevator
"bestfriend ko ata tong buhat buhat natin ngayon", pagmamayabang ko
Pagkabukas ng elevator, agad kong pinindot ang passscode at ipinasok ang Boss kong nagtutulog-tulugan.
"saan natin siya ihihiga?"
"sa kwarto ko", deretso kong sagot na dahilan ng pagkunot ng kanyang noo
"seryoso kaba? Bakit? Wala kabang guest room?" (imaginine niyo nalang yung mukha niyang curious na curious at the same time parang galit)
"we sleep together" deretso kong sabi na dahilan ng pagtalim ng tingin niya sa akin.
Bago pa siya makapagsalita ay umayos na ng tayo si Marco at parang lantang gulay na dumeretso sa loob ng kwarto ko. Iniisip kong pauwiin nalang si RM ngunit napaka bastos ko naman kung iyon ang gagawin ko. Kaya inalok ko na lamang siya ng kape at agad naman siyang umoo, sinabi kong mag antay nalang siya sa balkonahe at ipagtitimpla ko lamang siya.

"do you usually do that?" tanong niya sabay abot ng kapeng tinimpla ko
"do what?"
"that, sleeping together. He's your boss, right?" curius niyang tanong
"umm, yep, 9 years na", deretso kong sagot na nagpagulat sa kanya at halos maibuga na niya ang iniinom na kape, sa akin!
"what da! Really? Why?" gulat na tanong niya
"hindi pa tayo ganon ka close para magsabihan ng sekreto "seryosong sagot ko.
"give me the half of it", tumingin siya sa akin at ganon din ko sa kanya, nagtitigan kami at parang unti unti niyang napagtatanto kung tungkol saan ang sinabi ko
"paano mo nalaman?", manghang tanong niya
"wala akong hindi nalalaman, i want the half of it, 2.5 million" deretsong sabi ko
"what?, no way. Bakit ko naman ibibigay sayo yun?" pagtutol niya

Author's note: Beast is a story that I wrote a long, long time ago. Some of you might have read it then, back when it was posted on reddit over at r/HFY. It was my first webfiction and made in the spirit of that subreddit's "genre" of humanity being awesome. But, it is also a story that has bothered me a little bit. Just like most new writers tend to do, I made mistakes and errors that feel painful to reread. A Space Opera will be a Space Opera, but I had prose that makes present-me cringe. Still, at the same time, the story is still very much a tale I've never given up on. It was my first adventure into fiction: Beast was a crazy adventure with bodysnatching aliens, galactic war, threats from across the universe... Posting this story here is a way to try and redeem myself a bit. I won't call it a complete rewrite, because it's not, but I have wanted to go through and correct some of the major issues Beast has for a long time and put it somewhere more accessible to read (instead of as posts/comments on reddit) and I figure that now is as good a time as any. Additional corrections you might notice are welcome.

A spiraling doom awaits the world of Isulia. **************** I put the gore and traumatizing warnings not because my book is overly gory. However, there are a few moments that may be traumatizing to some people. As for the gore, it shows up fairly often but not extensively. I've always loved violence in movies and books, (The Boys, Banshee, Kingdom of heaven, Vikings, etc.) I am descriptive of the scenes with gore. So be warned :) I have multiple MC and as a nooby writer, I've had a harder time writing from a female POV. Just a heads up. Don't kill me if I make the woman in my book seem weird. After the Long Burn is an anthology of short science fiction stories set in the distant Ionad System. Author's Note: I thought I might try something a little different with this story. Rather than one story, it is six stories of varying length, each taking a slightly different perspective to tell a larger story. Some are more actioney, others more cerebral but I hope there will be something for everyone. Stories over 7000 words, with the exception of the titular After the Long Burn, will be published in two parts. I anticipate an upload schedule of one part every other day.

However, the setting of my story does not adhere to most of the main stream fantasy/sci-fi settings. So, you might find my ideas unique or a little too weird and complicated or both.
