《Fixing Each Other》Chapter 25

My eyes flickered open before I closed them, groaning in pain. My head was pounding, each thump more painful than the last. I heard her before I saw her.
"Well, look who's up. How are you?" I heard Rose say. My body was hit with a violent need to throw up.
"Rose! Get me the bin. Now!" I rushed out before I put my hands over my mouth to help choke back the vomit. She jumped up and ran to the corner of the room, quickly grabbing the bin before rushing over to me. She gave it to me and I leaned over, emptying the contents of my stomach into it. Just as I thought it was about to stop another wave hit me, causing me to groan before I threw up some more. Feeling satisfied I was done, I lay back down on the couch, ignoring Rose's disappointed stare.
"I thought you were done with the whole, "let's get so drunk I pass out and leave myself vulnerable" stage. You are going to find yourself in some serious trouble if you continue doing this every time you get upset." She lectured, staring at me pointedly.
"Keme's Circle. They're back and the slaughtered two of my pack members today. And I'm pretty sure they branded my son and we're the ones who did all those horrible things to him." I groaned, sitting up. I saw the fear flashed through her eyes.
"Aren't they the people who-"
"Who killed my only good mate? Yep." I mumbled she shook her head.
"Jerome's a good mate and you're lucky he found you. You were passed out next to the stairs. He carried you here and made sure you were okay. I arrived, and he was sitting her basically professing his love to you. Granted, you were asleep, but still. I can tell you with absolute certainty that he doesn't love Autumn." She rambled, causing me to stare at her.
Proffering his love. Yeah, I'm sure.
I rolled my eyes and scoffed. "Yeah whatever." I dismissed her lie with the wave of a hand.
"I'm telling the truth. Ask him." She said with a glare. I rolled my eyes.
"I don't want to see him, let alone talk to him." I growled, still feeling betrayed. She sighed.
"It's up to you. But if I were you, I'd just hurry up and mark him already. Then he'd truly be yours. But you're too stubborn to push aside your pride," she grumbled as she got up and went to leave. Only she stopped at the door and walked over to my desk. "Don't fall back down this rabbit hole." She mumbled as she took the full bottle of liquor from my desk.

"Hey! Leave that alone." I called out, but she had already left. I stood up, using the wall to steady myself. I picked up my vomit filled trash can and carried it with me to the dumpster. Not caring if anyone saw me. I was pretty sure I was still drunk, making me quite vulnerable. I still couldn't bring myself to care.
I stumbled my way to the garden, wanting to be alone. Of course fate had other plans as I had bumped into Eva. She saw me and I smiled her eyes widened. "Are you drunk?" She asked I waved her off, "Pfft of course not. I'm just tipsy. I was drunk, but then I passed out and well woke up. And so here I am. Butttt you don't care about that, you care about Seth because you loveeee him." I said, slurring my words slightly. She grabbed my arm and steered me towards the bench. I sat down and closed my eyes.
"Seth and Jerome are on their way." She mumbled causing me to snap my eyes open.
"No, I don't want to see him. Tell him to piss off." I said, my heart beating faster. She looked stunned. Probably because she has never seen me like this before.
"It's too late for that, sweetheart." I heard his silky smooth voice call out. I mustered up enough sobriety to send him a hateful glare.
"Don't "sweetheart" me, you asshole. Go find Autumn and entertain her since your still in love with her." I spat. Hurt flashed through his eye.
"Rose didn't tell you?" He mumbled causing me to laugh.
"Oh, she told me, but I call bullshit. There's no way you care about me more than her. I'll always be second best to you. So fuck off and leave me alone." I growled, getting to my feet. I swayed before I caught myself. I took a step forward and tripped his hands shot out to catch me and he did. He pulled me into him, pressing my body against his. The sparks ignited me making me want to melt into his embrace. I tried to pull back but he wouldn't allow it being this close to him was sobering me up. Our wolves were healing is quicker when they are united that is on our own separately. I growled at him, trying to shove him off, not wanting this numb feeling to go yet.
"If you don't let me go, I'm going to break your arm." I seethed, my wolf suddenly taking over. I felt my control shift, and I saw his eyes widen. He let me go, and I just now understood why. My claws were out as well as my canines, and red hair had begun to sprout from my pores. I put my hands in front of my face to inspect them, then I laughed.

"Guess my wolf doesn't like being second best either. Maybe I should pay Autumn a visit." I growled. I turned to see that we have an audience. I turned to Seth, and he was staring at me like I had lost my mind. And truthfully, I feel like I have. I tried to shift back fully to my human side, but my wolf wouldn't allow it. My wolf snarled at me. Something was off. I tried to talk to her, but she was completely cut off. And that's when I heard it. The whistle of the arrow heading straight for Seth.
"Seth get down!" I screamed, and he did, he dropped to the floor confused but since I was in front of him it was now going to hit me. I caught it just as it was about to puncture through my heart. The sliver burned my flesh, but I couldn't let go of it, fearing it was going to somehow still compete with its task.
"Everyone move! Get the hell out of here. Now! Inside!" I ordered and watched as they ran.
"Seth. Take Eva inside." I growled as I disregarded the arrow. I opened my hand to find that the arrow had burned through my flesh. But it was healing. I glance towards Jerome. Fearing that he too was hit. He instead had began to start shifting.
"Come on. We've got hunters to kill." He said with a snarl. His wolf stood in front of me and let me tell you he was scary. He stood up fully shaking out his black fur. The Alpha blood running through his veins insured he was capable of becoming a deadly predator if need be. I didn't doubt it. I nodded and shifted too. My wolf was only a few inches smaller than his. I think this surprised him because he was staring at me. I started to run.
"I'm still pissed at you. Don't think thinks means I've forgiven you." I hissed through the link. He said nothing, but his wolf whined slightly. We blotted into the direction of the hunters.
"Oh, and don't be shocked when you find out that they too are wolves. I'll explain the story later." I mumbled.
I skidded to a halt when we came upon a group of them. They were armed and dangerous. But what shocked me the most was that they were holding a gun to Theo's head.
"No!" My wolf snarled. Jerome growled fiercely before he shifted back, I tried not to look at him I just focused on Theo.
"You hurt my boy, I'll kill you all." He snarled, a dangerous glint in his fiery eyes. The hunter laughed.
"Your boy? I don't think so. Six here is my son." He said darkly as he tugged Theo's head up by pulling his hair. I growled darkly. A dangerous power leaking out of me. I could feel the power building up inside me like a fiery storm. It filled me to the brim, and I was just itching to release it.
"Bridget. Your eyes. They're glowing red." Came Jerome's shocked voice. I ignored him and focused my glare on the man holding my son. I took a step forward and shoot out my fur. I growled at the man. I could smell his fear, but his face remained emotionless.
"I came here to give you a warning. We will make sure your pack falls. And you are all wiped off the planet. Prepare for war scum. Because once we attack, you will all be dead." He spat.
Jerome stepped up and rushed over to the man holding Theo. He grabbed the gun pointed at Theo and ripped it from his grasp as Theo got up and ran into me; I pushed him behind me and got into a protective stance. The man Jerome tackled was putting up a good fight. The other men seemed to be frozen in place. Until Jerome had thrown the guy who claimed to be Theo's father into them, they fell to the ground and Jerome took this chance to shift. He pounced, but paused when the man said something.
"How's your... mother? Does she miss me?"
Jerome slammed his paw into his head, knocking him out. He then turned to the people pointing their guns at me and Theo. I couldn't move because if I did, they'd shoot Theo. Jerome stared at me, he was torn. He couldn't attack without me getting hurt. He shifted back.
"Don't hurt her." He growled.
"If he dies. So does she." A girl spoke out. But something about the way her words pressed into me made me feel uncomfortable. It was like she wasn't human or she wasn't in control of her actions.
"Seth. I need you. We're being held at gunpoint. Well, I am Theo too. I need you to gather a team of you attack from behind then we can escape. But don't kill anyone. I need them alive." I said through the link. His response was instant.
"Don't worry. We're on our way."

A Nation of Distances (possibly a dystopian love story)
Michael lives in a toxic macho world with extreme male hierarchy. When he gets a weird rating that makes his place even more problematic he's forced to choose a fiancée at a Wife School, and he slowly discovers more about the other side of the great divide between the sexes in The Nation. If only the world would stop being so complicated... On the other side there's Megan, who's more interested in books than in marriage, and the unpredictable Eliza who seems to have a connection with Micheal already. Will they be able to cross the distance and become friends against all the rules of their own world, or will they just be crushed? Are positive relationships between men and women even possible? And is there a way to change the world or is that just a naive thought of a silly wimp? 'A Nation of Distances' is a slightly dystopian dialogue-heavy drama set in a low sci-fi future setting about the war between the sexes, disconnect and friendship. The genre will fluctuate in between more slice-of-life parts and soft sci-fi drama with possible romantic elements, with alternating lead and switching perspectives once more of the main characters are established. Content Warning: Certain concepts and scenes might be disturbing and/or triggering to some, even though the story itself won't be extremely heavy most of the time. Sexism as a double-edged sword destructive to both sexes is an important part of the story, but so is friendship.Note that all descriptions of persons and places are purely fictional and made up by the writer, and any resemblance with anything in the real world is a coincidence, since the real world is not supposed to be dystopian anyway!
