《Fixing Each Other》Chapter 22

My eyes fluttered open as I began to wake up. All I could feel was pain radiating all around my every breath was agonising. I felt someone squeeze my hand. I focused my eyes on the figure hovering over me. Her features came into focus as I blinked confusedly. My memory was a bit foggy.
Bridget's here.
And she's crying?
"Y... you're crying?" I croaked out. She laughed through the tears, a happy look on her face. She gently pulled me forwards and placed her lips on mine. I kissed her back, her lips wet with tears making me taste the salty liquid. She pulled back, still sobbing.
She gave me some water, and I accepted it gratefully. As I swallowed the water soothed my scratchy throat. Which made me feel so much better. I
Looked around and saw that there were multiple people in the room, including my brother. "What's everyone doing here?" I asked, causing Bridget to sob.
"There here because of you." She cried. I went to sit up, but Bridget pushed me down gently.
"I need to sit up." I groaned, but she shook her head.
"No!" She snapped, causing me to jump. "Tommy said you needed to rest. So rest." She ordered. I huffed, trying to sit back up.
"Jerome Alexander Morton lay down this instant."
"Mum?" I croaked out, glancing towards the door. She rushed over to me as Bridget moved to the other side of my bed. My mum gasped when she saw me.
"Who the hell did this to you." She cried but then turned around to face Jeremiah, glaring fiercely at him. He visibly pales and I would've laughed at him if it didn't hurt to move.
"Ma! I didn't do this. Are you crazy!" He shrieked in defence. I managed a laugh, but it turned into a coughing fit.
"Would you just stay still. You're healing, you idiot!" Bridget snapped at me before smiling sheepishly at me.
"Come on sweetheart, don't be like that." I protested.
"I swear Jerome I will sedate you." She threatened, a small growl rising in her chest. I reluctantly agreed to stop trying to get up, but not before I rolled my eyes at her. My mother turned to me and glanced at Bridget.
"Not to sound rude or anything. But who are you exactly?" She questioned. Bridget flushed, looking at me. I grinned at her.
"Aw your blushing," I teased. She glared at me as I looked at my mum and smiled, "she's my mate. Isn't she beautiful?" I said happily. I watched the shock turn to happiness.

"You have a second mate." She whispered, and I nodded. Just as I did my father walked into the room. His worried look intensified as he saw me. He glared at Jeremiah.
"Did he do that!" He yelled, pointing at Jeremiah, and I shook my head.
"Oh, come on!" He yelled, "How come everyone's asking me that!" He complained.
"Jeremiah. You should go outside. Autumns here." My father mumbled awkwardly. I felt Bridget tense, an angry look crossing her features.
"Could you ask if I can have something for the pain?" I asked, squeezing her hand. She nodded and her eyes glazed over minutes later Tommy was here. He smiled and then took a look around the room.
"I'm sorry but I need all non-family members to leave. I understand everyone's worried, but he needs to rest." Tommy said as he stood behind the door. Seth walked over to the bed and smiled at me.
"Glad you're not dead you ass." He mused causing me to smile.
"I always knew you loved me." I said, throwing him a cheeky wink. I heard Bridget laugh at his shocked face. He just rolled his eyes at me before making his exit.
Tommy walked over to my bed and lifted my shirt as he placed his stethoscope on my chest and ordered me to breathe in and out. He pressed a button on my bed, and it lifted my body to a sitting position. He listened to my chest for a little while before pulling back.
"Okay, you have equal breath sounds on both sides so I'm going to go ahead and call a nurse in so I can remove it." I nodded he did just that.
He removed it and it didn't hurt due to the anaesthetic he gave me
"I'll give you something for the pain it'll be strong, and you will be woozy but because we metabolise much quicker than humans, it'll wear off quicker. So, if the pain gets unbearable, click this and a nurse will come and administer some more meds." He explained, and I nodded, understanding him.
Soon enough it was only Bridget, my parents, and Jeremiah left in the room. Seth showed Autumn to a guest room in the pack house and she was there resting.
I could feel the pain meds kicking in. They made my head all fuzzy.
"Bridget..." I whispered she looked at me, "Bridgetttttttt," I sang. She looked at me funny before she answered.

"Yes?"
"Can I have a kiss?" I said pouting. She smiled at me and kissed my cheek. "Nooooooo!" I yelled "a proper one like the one in your officeeeeee where I we almost had s-" She clamped her hands over my mouth cutting me off. Her face was red with embarrassment. I stuck out my tongue, licking her hand. She pulled back with a disgusted face.
"Don't do that." She scolded, wiping her hand on her jeans. I smiled goofily at her. "And be quiet." She mumbled. My parents laughed at me.
I glanced over to Jeremiah and yelled at him. "Hey! You! Get over here!"
He walked over to me, and I glared at him. "You're an asshole!" I said as I bobbed my tongue out at him.
"Jerome be nice." Bridget whispered. I rolled my eyes holding my hands in front of my face waving them. They made little patterns as I did it, making me laugh.
"I think it's safe to say the pain meds have kicked in." Said my father with an amused grin.
"You know JJ. I still love you even though you stole my mate and like you know fucked her and stuff." I slurred. He grinned at me. I pointed at Bridget, "You are not allowed to go near her. She is my mine. You got that!" I said trying to sound scary, but I ended up laughing.
"I love you too brother and don't worry I won't. You should rest up." He said nodding towards the bed.
I gasped.
"You know what else I love?" I said looking at Bridget as she shook her head, "cooking! Ooo and I love food. And you guys, of course." I said, touching my face.
"Ow!" I yelled
Bridget grabbed my hands, "Don't touch your face," she scolded. I pouted at her before I pinched her cheeks. She laughed at me, "what are you doing?" She asked, causing me to shrug.
"Motherrrrr!" I yelled, and she came over and shushed me.
"Sweetie, I know your high right now but try to be quieter okay. Inside voices, baby." She shushed me before ruining her hands through my hair. I pointed to Bridget and narrowed my eyes.
"Do you love her because I think you should?" My mum laughed at me before looking at Bridget, who was laughing at me too.
"Sure, honey."
I turned to Bridget with a massive grin on my face. "I told you they would. It's impossible not to love you." I said as her eyes widened. "I'm tired." I whined, pulling the blankets over my head.
My mother nodded, turned to the others and told them it's time to go.
"I'd show you to your rooms, but I can't leave him." Bridget said as she walked over to my family. I watched as my mum hugged her.
"Thank you for looking after my boy." Bridget smiled and hugged her back.
They said goodbye and left. Bridget switched off the light and turned on the lamp beside the bed. I scooted over and tapped the bed next to me. Pain flared up in my chest, causing me to grit my teeth. I guess the meds are wearing off. Damn. That was quick.
"Can we cuddle?" I asked, still grinning. She nodded as she kicked off her shoes and carefully climbed into bed next to me. I pulled the blankets over us and snaked my arm around her waist. She turned to face me and rested her head on mine.
"You scared me today." She said frowned. Kissing her nose, she smiled at me.
"If I had known he was going to shift, I'd have backed off. Where is he anyway?" I asked, causing Bridget to sigh.
"I killed him." She mumbled. My eyes widened and she looked away from me.
"That's hot." I flirted, pulling her into me, and placed a kiss on her neck. Her eyes to snap back to mine.
"Are your serious right now? I killed a man and you think it's hot." She grumbled.
"Just the fact that you killed for me nobody's ever cared that much." I said softly. She looked at me, her eyes shining with unshed tears.
"I do." She whispered. I smiled and pulled her closer.
"That and you look sexy when your angry." I said before I leaned forward, capturing her lips with mine. The kiss was slow and sweet, and I smiled into it, still feeling the slightest bit woozy.
"Let's sleep." She said, and I nodded, pulling her into me. I nestled my head into the crook of her neck and inhaled her scent. I was instantly relaxed and soon enough I felt the exhaustion take over, pulling me into a well-deserved sleep.

They made a grave mistake leaving me alive and locking me in a dungeon cell. They will live to regret it. ___________________________________________________________________________________________________ This is a story in a fantasy world with lots of fantastical elements, including magic and cultivation. However, there's also some decent technology in this world. Gaining power has a system and nothing comes out of nowhere. Essentially, the setting and background is high fantasy but the focus will be whatever the MC sees, so expect more of a gritty realistic low fantasy most of the time. The MC is not OP and uses his wits and strategy to survive, and maybe even thrive. The warning tags are just there because I don't want any limits to where this story may lead me to writing. *I don't own the cover*

Knights of the Partition
We like to think there are no monsters. No magic, no gods, nothing waiting in the night but the stars and cold, hard science. It’s a comforting thought. It isn't true. Magic isn't common, mind you. Working forces is difficult in the Age of Man, and gods are limited in the ways they interact with the world. The great monsters of old have mostly been slain, or sealed away. But rare or not, the magic isn't gone. The great Working that protects us from the horrors of the past does not have the power to destroy such things. Instead, it created the Partition, a tapestry of worlds beyond the boundary of our own. There the magic roams, searching for a way to come back. I am a Knight of Avalon. One of the protectors of the Partition. How did I get this job? Poor decisions, mostly.

Talius
The two moons of Talius gleam with a hypnotic glow; Araius with the color of a cooling blue, and Kranos beaming in a gentle orange. Arairus obscures Kranos with his enormous celestial body, letting Kranos peek out only halfway. This means that it's the month of Gantelos, the season of cold that hovers over Talius for half a year. It also notifies the residence of this planet that the dreadful Fuune will rise from the deep snow, deep from beneath the crust every night and feast on the humans who inhabit this tundra-infested world.
