《Fixing Each Other》Chapter 5

I was worried about Theo; he was so frail, and he had been through so much already, and he's not even an adolescent. I was so angry at whoever rationalised doing that to a child; I was so mad. I wanted to be there when he woke up from his surgery, but I knew that greeting all the transfers will take some time.

"Tommy?" I said through the pack link. He answered immediately.

"Yes Alpha?"

"Could you let me know when Theo's surgery is finished?"

"Theo?" He questioned. Oh right, of course, he wasn't there when he chose his name.

"The little boy I brought in earlier," I clarified "As soon as he's back in his room could you let me know."

"Oh, right yes, of course, Alpha, in fact, he is just being prepped. I'll inform you the second he gets out of the OR." He said. I felt better knowing I had Tommy looking after him. Tommy was a close family friend. He's been by my side since I came here, we're close.

"Thanks Tom." I said as I cut the link between us. I walked to the banquet hall, they already prepared everything, there were tables filled with food, drink and snacks. There were around thirty recent transfers and I could hear them all chatting away. My wolf was getting antsy more than she usually does. I shook my head and stepped inside. Brent met me at the door.

"Everyone except one is here. Car trouble, I'm told." I nodded, only slightly annoyed I can't stand tardiness but unforeseen circumstances I can understand.

"Who?" I asked.

"His names Jerome Morton." I nodded okay, I needed to watch him closely. I turned and walked to the front of the room.

"Okay listen up, as you know this is the Indigo Paw Pack and I'm now your Alpha. I do not expect you to cut off ties with your old pack because that's out of the question, but what I expect is your loyalty, you are here for a reason and if I find out any of you are here with any ill intensions, I promise it won't end well for you. Do you understand?" I said strongly. The entire room erupted into agreeing murmurs as I smiled tightly. "Your job assignments are on that sheet of paper that is taped up. If you're listed as a warrior, then training starts tomorrow 6 am sharp no later than half past. I don't tolerate tardiness." I finished as I did, the door screeched open and in walked who I assume to be Jerome. His lateness isn't what surprised me, what surprised me is the rush of emotions that followed when our eyes met. The rush of familiar feelings may I add.

There he stood, his ebony hair fell over his face slightly, it was tamed. Though it was long, it wasn't messy. He was around 6'4, his face was strong and defined, his jaw was sharp but was littered with bruises. His eyes were a deep auburn colour. It reminded me of fire, a deep burning fire that could light up an entire room. His shoulders were broad and strong, as were his biceps. His torso packed with muscle and I was itching to lift his shirt and take a look. I inernally scolded myself as soon as the thought entered my mind. I took a second to admire him before I ripped my eyes away. "You're late." I said my tone was sharp. He looked at me, questions swimming in his eyes.

"My apologies ma'am, car trouble." He said sheepishly his voice was rich and smooth and I nearly melted. What the hell is wrong with me?

I shouldn't be feeling these things... these feelings are something I haven't felt since Tony. My wolf shook out her fur and barked excitedly.

"As I was saying, your job assignments are on that sheet of paper that is taped up. If you're listed as a warrior, then training starts tomorrow 6 am sharp, no later than half past."

Mate! She screamed, and I nearly fainted. That's impossible! I shook my head and looked at him once more; he seemed to be deep in thought; he looked sad, and I wanted nothing more than to go over to him and hug him. I pushed my feelings aside and stepped off the makeshift stage Brent set up. I was thrown into the crowd of greetings. I smiled and said the odd few words until I came face to face with the man I was trying to avoid; I smiled politely and tried to walk past him.

"Erm excuse me Alpha but I don't see my name on the sheet. Is there a reason for that?" He asked, his voice caused goosebumps to arise. I glanced at him, studying him.

"I could put you with the warriors. Could you handle that?" I said, raising a brow as he scoffed.

"Obviously." He mumbled rudely, I had to stop myself from rolling my eyes at him. I gave him a tight smile and brushed passed him. Our bodies brushed against each other's the tingles shot through my whole body igniting me and heightening my senses a small gasp escaped my lips as I looked at his gaze caught mine there was a pained intensity burning in his fiery eyes, I could see the anguish behind his facade and I felt like I couldn't breathe. He pushed himself off the wall he was leaning against before he could walk any closer, I turned and walked away.

I walked into the hospital room, Theo was lying there sleeping on the bed, he was whimpering, and hot tears were falling from his eyes. I rushed over to him and shook him, but he didn't wake. "Theo!" I said, shaking him more. "Wake up, baby." I said and his eyes slowly fluttered open. The haunted look in his eyes didn't go unnoticed. I pulled him into my chest, and I stroked his hair.

"I had a bad dream." He cried, I shushed him and climbed into bed with him, I pulled him into my chest and held him as he cried.

"What happened?" I whispered he cried harder. I shushed him, "You don't have to tell me, sweetie." I said, pulling him closer.

"My mommy went to heaven Infront of me. Th-that's what happened." He said sobbing I sighed.

"Oh sweetie, I'm so sorry." I said, kissing the top of his head.

"Are you going to be my new mommy?" he asked with a serious face, his hazel eyes were rimmed with tears, I however I was shocked. Rendered speechless. I managed a slight smile.

"Well, kid, we'll have to figure some stuff out, but I'd want nothing more," I smiled he squeezed me tighter. I ran my fingers through his hair until he was sleeping soundly, gripping my shirt.

"Let's see mate," my wolf said, but I ignored her, but she just kept pestering "mate," "mate," "mate," "mat-"

"Fine!" I growled I slipped out of the hospital bed being careful not to wake Theo. I straightened out my shirt and sighed.

Here goes nothing

I let my subconscious guide me until I was standing in front of my Beta, Brent.

"Brent." I called out. My tone came out harsher than I intended, but he still stopped what he was doing to come and talk to me. I mean It's not like he can publicly go against his Alpha even if it is for a conversation. That would be seen as a challenge, and we'd have to fight.

"Alpha?" he said seriously I eyed him, his hair was messy, and his shirt was scrunched up slightly I rolled my eyes.

"Have you seen Jerome Morton. He's one of the transfers, err the late one." I asked, hoping he'd say yes. My wolf was becoming unbearably annoying. He looked at me, concern swimming in his steel orbs.

"You're not going to kill him are you I mean he wasn't that late, thirty minutes or so that's not even bad I mean what is that compared to like an hour or even two I mean it's not even-" I growled.

"Will you shut up, I'm not going to kill him for being late. God, Brent, stop assuming things! Now, do you know where he is or not!"

He nodded. "He was helping Casey carry some crates into the greenhouse." I nodded and left him standing there. I made my way over there, I was growing nervous. I saw him and he was facing away from me, but I knew it was him, and I could tell he was holding something heavy due to the way his delicious back muscles were flexing.

Oh my god! Did I really just think that!

I sighed and walked on over my nerves skyrocketed and I bit my lip. What if he doesn't want to talk, or what if he hates me or- I shook my head and I pushed open the door upon hearing me arrive he turned, he was holding a crate of soil his arms were flexing and I couldn't help but stare at the movement. I pulled my gaze away from his flexing biceps and focused on his fiery eyes. "Can we talk... alone?" I asked casting my gaze towards Casey she smiled politely. She took the last crate and set it next to the others. She nodded at us.

"Of course, see you later, Jerome. Alpha." She said softly before making her exit.

"Need something?" he asked. His voice was cold and emotionless. Wow, I think the temperature just dropped ten degrees. His unnecessary attitude annoyed me. I narrowed my eyes at him and he raised a brow.

"I just wanted to talk, but if that's too much of an inconvenience to you than I can leave." I grumbled out, causing him to sigh.

"Look this is just as confusing for me as it is for you. I have- had a mate. Now she's well not around and suddenly this," he paused to gesture between us "happens and I do not understand how or what to think." He admitted, and I nodded.

"My thoughts exactly, but I can't ignore this. Trust me, I have tried." I muttered hotly. As the words left my lips, his entire demeanour changed into a cold facade.

"Look just reject me already. It's nothing I haven't been through before. C'mon lets get it over with." He snapped harshly I looked at him in shock then a sudden sinking feeling shot through me. I looked down. The sadness is creeping in. I looked at him once more. His gaze was filled with pain. Without another word, I turned and left with a jeering pain in my chest.
