《The Pet》The Bell

"Ahh"I groaned after being thrown to the floor of my cage. I just got whipped for accidentally waking up the owner from his peaceful slumber, while I was having a nightmare and screaming and accidentally waking him up.

"Get up" he said as he grabbed me by my hair and pulled me up. I groaned as I was brought up to my feet.

"Next time you wake me up, it will be more than that." He said through gritted teeth, and through me back on the floor.

I breathed in heavily as I crawled over to bars to lean against. My body relaxed as I leaned on them. It wasn't my worst beating but still not great. I then took my hand and placed it on my back. I hissed as it stung when I touched it. I brought my hand back to see blood in my fingertips. I sighed and relaxed my body even more and my eyes slowly closed.

I jolted awake a few hours later, when I heard banging on the bars. I tried to steady my breath after being frightened by the banging in the bars.

"Wake up, bitches." The owner said while all of us were adjusting and sitting up right.

I groaned as I tried to move but my back was too sore so I just stayed how I was. I opened my eyes and caught a glance at the drawing on the floor I drew, of an eye.

Drawing was my escape in this place. It made me feel happy, as I could draw anything I wanted without being told what to do. I would use charcoal from the bucket that was by my cage for the fireplace to draw. I draw at night when everyone is asleep. I haven't been caught yet because I usually erase it the next day so the owner won't see it.

I use my hand to rub away the drawing, sad that I couldn't keep it, but I really don't want to be beaten again two days in a row. I wiped the charcoal dust on my dress that I have worn since, I don't know how long. These dresses are filthy; they have dirt, blood, and snags all over them. We haven't been able to shower either, so hygiene here as you can tell is awful.

"Breakfast" the owner said as he slid our food into the latches on the cages. I never ate the food, I would rather die than eat shit for food.

I scooted my plate away and went back to leaning on the bars and staring at the wall. I sneakily grab my necklace that is tucked under my dress and hold on to it.

I have kept my mom's promise by never taking it off and keeping it hidden from everyone. I hold onto it when I am either scared or sad. It makes me feel like my family is with. But every time I hold onto it, I think back to what my mom said to me before being taken away,

"Hopefully you figure it out one day,"

I still haven't figured it out and it is killing me. What did she mean by that? What is there to figure out?

I am worried for when I do figure out what they meant. But here I am 10 years later and still haven't figured it out so, the best I can do is sit here and think.

This is pretty much how it is every day, sit, think, and wait till a vampire walks in to buy you. I hope that day never comes for me, I don't think I can handle it. I am too traumatized by what happened 10 years ago, and what has happened at this place. So being bought by a vampire would break me mentally and physically.

"Hey, why aren't you eating?" the owner said as he made his way to me. I didn't answer. I was too scared, but what happened next made me realize I should've answered.

"Hey!" He said as he grabbed my leash by one of the openings and pulled it, making my head hit the bars. I groaned as my head ached from the impact. "Remember what I told you last night, do you want to do it again?" he asked, I didn't respond, I was too focused on my ear ringing.

"Do you?!" He said as he tugged the leash. "No" I whimpered as I could feel his hot breath on my face.

"Than eat you fucking piece of -" he was interrupted by the front door opening and the bell going off to let him know someone came in. We both froze and looked at each other. He then slowly let go of me still keeping eye contact with me as he got up. He slowly turned around to welcome the customer.

"Hello, welco-" he froze mid sentence as he saw who walked in. I was confused on why he stopped but when I leaned to the side to see who it was, I couldn't blame him.

Usually I can recognize vampires who come in and out of the shop because they need to replace their pets that they drained every month.

But this man, I have never seen before. He was tall, very tall, at least 6 feet tall. I am 5'2 so he was a giant to me. He wore an all black suit with a long leather coat that fit him really nicely. He had raven black hair that was shaved on all sides with the top being medium length with a part down the middle. He also had the sharpest jawline that I had ever seen.

But what amazed me the most were his eyes. They were ice blue, and looked like they could take your soul away. I have blue eyes as well, but nowhere near the beauty of his. Who was this mysterious handsome man?

I stared at him for what I felt like was forever until we both made eye contact, that is when the owner spoke is disbelief,

"Zayn Knight"

My heart then dropped.
