"Mommy!"

"What dear" my mom said as I came running into the house with a handful of flowers.

"I got you some flowers for you" I said as I handed her the flowers.

"Aww Rose, these are beautiful" she said as she put them in a vase. Rose was my nickname, my parents used it all the time. I was their little rose, the thing that brought them happiness, from a very dark place in time for them.

"I couldn't find any roses though," I said, annoyed at myself.

Roses are my favorite flower. Yes, because my middle name is Rose for Emberlynn Rose Carter. But I also loved them for their beauty, from when they are alive and bright, to where they are dying and starting to change to a brown color. Roses never lost their beauty.

"That's alright Rose" my mom said as she ruffled my blonde hair. "Plus, I already have a rose, you" she said as she started to tickle me.

"AHH MOMMY STOP!" I screamed as she was attacking me with tickles. "DADDY HELP ME!" I screamed as my dad came into the kitchen.

"My Rose!" He said as he came in and swept me away from my mom. I laughed as he flew me to the couch and set me down.

"Daddy I missed you!" I said happily as I gave him a huge hug. "Aww I missed you too sweetie" he said as he hugged back.

"How was work?" I asked as we headed back into the kitchen.

He looked at my mom with a scared, saddened look before replying, "It was good" he replied back. I tried to ignore the look he gave my mom. I hoped everything was ok.

"Well, let's eat!" mom said and totally changed the mood.

Now we were sitting at the table, eating dinner in complete silence. The room felt tense as my parents had worried looks on their faces.

My parents never told me who dad worked for, they didn't want me to worry about it. So I never understood when some days my dad would come back stressed.

While eating in silence, we heard a blood curdling scream coming from outside. We all went tense, as we heard more screams coming. My parents looked at each other like they were reading each other's minds. They both got out of their seats and my dad rushed up the stairs as my mom grabbed me and moved me onto the stairs.

"Mommy what is happening?!" I asked as my mom grabbed something from a little box on top of the bookshelf.

"Emberlynn listen to me" she said to me as she put a silver necklace with a blue jewel in the middle. She very rarely uses my first name, only if in trouble or something serious is happening. Like now. She then looked at me with tears in her eyes.

"Some things are about to change, and we may not see each other for a while. But I need you to promise me that you will never take this off and keep it hidden." She said as looked at me with tears in her eyes as she pointed to the necklace.

"I promise" I said with tears in my eyes, while my dad came down the stairs. They both then looked at me with tears in their eyes smiling.

"We love you, and hopefully you figure it out one day." Figure out what? What were they keeping from me?

Before I could say anything, the door was kicked down and people started coming in and grabbing me and my parents and pulling us out of the house.

"MOMMY!" I screamed as I was being picked up and taken into a carriage. It wasn't until now, I looked up and noticed our home was in flames.

"WE LOVE YOU!" My mom screamed at me as I was being thrown into a carriage.

Before the carriage could drive away, I looked out the opening of the carriage to see one of the men go down to my mom's throat and bite into it and rip her throat out. She collapsed to the ground in a second and that was the last saw before the carriage started moving.

I knew she was gone and soon my dad. But who was that creature who killed her?

I then sat in the corner of the caged carriage crying and scared. I didn't know what was going to happen to me. But I did know one thing, I was going to keep her promise. I grabbed the necklace and looked at it. I stared at it for awhile before tucking it into dress and saying,

"I promise."
