You were sitting down on the sand near the beach watching the sunrise.
You didn't have Particular reason it was just one of those moments where your thinking 'why not?'
"Your unusually up early" you heard someone say. You looked to the side without turning your head to see Syobai.
He wasn't the type of guy you see everyday you gotta admit but you didn't mind as much.
"I could say the same about you" you replied
You both gotta admit you got along pretty well despite you not wanting anything he sells and he's seems like a suspicious guy.
He moved to where you were and sat next to you. You were against a tree so he just leaned back to the tree
"Why are you up so early?" he asked
"Nightmare" you answered back looking like you didn't care
"Sucks to be you"
What did you expect him to be lovey dovey? This is Syobai were talking about
He pulled out a pack of cigarettes and put one in this mouth.
He pulled out a lighter and lit the cigarette that was in his mouth
You looked at him for a second "you know those can kill you right?"

He used two fingers to put the cigarette out of his mouth and blow the toxic fumes out making it spread across the island and kill all the plants-
Okay I'm done
The blew out all the smoke before answering "thanks for stating the obvious" he said sarcastically.
You gave him a 'really' looked before lifting one hand and slapping the cigarette box out of his hand
"Why you little-" he stopped himself "well I guess I deserved that"
He just pulled out another pack abandoning the cigarette box on the floor.

It was silent for a second until he broke the silence
"You wanna talk about you nightmare, it's getting boring just sitting here in silence"
"I had multiple nightmares" you replied back looking to your shoe crumbling up a bit of rock until it was sand
"Was it about your parents again?"
(I'm sorry if you have amazing parents and you get offended when people use abuse for their oc's and stories but that's just what the person who requested this asked for me to make a story on the reader getting abused by there parents)
You looked at him without moving your head before looking back in front of you and nodding.
"Yeah, which one do you want the broken beer bottle and the cigarette burns" you joked
"Tch sometimes you concern me with how much you joke about your trauma. Hows about the broken beer bottle considering I'm having a cigarette right now"
You told him about your nightmare/memory of your mother (gender doesn't change shit on abuse okay, woman can abuse people too) threw a beer bottle at you when she was drunk
"Why was she drunk in the first place?"
"Dad was always going out for a 'business trip' and mum got upset about it so she drank her sorrows away" you answered
He Answered with a quick 'ah'.
He pulled out another cigarette and put it in front of you
"Your heart is beating too fast from the stress"
(If you don't know, the reason why a cigarette can help when your stressed is because if your heart is beating too fast a cigarette can put it back to it original pace and reduce the stress)
"I don't smoke"
"It's just one quick inhale" he answered
(Don't smoke kids just because your stressed. It would just build more stress afterwards)

You hesitated before grabbing the cigarette and putting it in your mouth. Syobai got out a lighter and lit up the cigarette.
"Inhale" you ordered
You did as he said. He counted to three before taking the cigarette out of your mouth.
"Exhale" he said
You did as he said making all the smoke go out your mouth and nose.
He out the cigarette on the floor and stomped on it to put it out. He did the same for his own
"Feeling better?" he asked
"I guess" you answered
At this point the sun was completely up and people were starting to get it.
Syobai got up "I don't know about you but all this talking has made me hungry. Want to join me for breakfast?" he asked
You nodded and got up.
You both had breakfast and honestly hand a great time eat and talking together

An abandoned steampunk arms factory, in the middle of a conflict torn former state of the Empire it served, gains a soul. This transforms it into a Lord, capable of turning land into power. Beset by enemies on all sides it must figure out how to win the war its creators lost a century ago. This is a progressive Dungeon Core novel (which is to say the core will progress and expand in scale, eventually) across multiple dimensions with different characteristics (e.g. steampunk, magic, mythological). It has rationalist leanings (paragraphs of reasoning) and litrpg leanings (there are stat blocks). The core game mechanical idea is something like "what if different flavors of magic power actually did come from controlling land" and then the story is: "what if there was a flavorless (artifact deck) dungeon core". Chapters will be relatively short (my aim is that in three column format each would fit on a wide screen monitor), the first few chapters - setting up the main character and mechanics - are currently the longest in the entire series. I write chapters in blocks, and then release them one a weekday (M-F; 6 PM GMT, unless RoyalRoad's publish thing screws up) until I run out. There may be a few days of gaps here and there if someone finds an egregious error I have to re-write around or if I am behind. In general though one can read this once a weekend. I may do slight retconns and edits, I'll make sure to put it in an authors note if I do.
