《ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴀᴛᴍᴀɴ.》39.

A couple of months have passed, and I still bring justice for the people of Gotham. After numerous attempts from Penguin to take over the city, it didn't work with the plan as long as I was alive. I had to destroy the small factories by selling drops and bring peace for my people to trust me. James would light the signal here and then, and sometimes I would appear in the shadows dealing with crimes myself. Alfred has been helping along when I needed it, and Daisy helped heal my wounds at times. Going to the hospital is risky for someone like me, so I had to accept the pain and leave another scar, another memory.

My father's legacy has been brought back up. I figured it was time to help the city out; I simply made a new foundation under my father's name, The Wayne Foundation, with the rest of the money he left from the hospital. The manor was under my name for ages, but I knew it was time to help the city again.

Daisy, on the other hand, is happy, genuinely happy. She already understood that I'm Batman, but sometimes she had episodes. She still couldn't grasp it, and sometimes I wouldn't be home to help her. Alfred told me she would cry at times, and he had to comfort her because he wasn't sure what to do. Things didn't worsen between us, but I knew it would be not easy. However, as I said before, she's happy. I do my best to satisfy her, and sometimes she does the same, perhaps more than I did at times. But I make her happy; I try to, at least.

7:03 AM. Time is ticking as I shut the door behind me, another day being late. I figured Daisy was sleeping as well as Alfred, so I walked my way upstairs with my batsuit on still. The door is still open the way I left it. Daisy must've been sleeping the entire time without waking up in the middle of the night. I shut the door behind me quietly till I remove my gears and the rest of my suit. I left it on the counter and instantly grabbed onto my sweatpants, putting them on. Surely enough, I remove the black eye makeup around my eyes; I tend to forget every time. My body is numb from last night, but nothing I could complain about. I know Daisy will be worried once she sees the bruises and scars that are left on my back.

I slide between her cuddling the blanket, slowly pushing her towards me as I fold my arms around her. I could feel her arms wrapping around me, and I groaned a little, waking her up.

Daisy slowly opens her eyelids, peeking at me with her small eyes. "What's wrong?"

She knows I didn't sleep in the bed with her for the entire night, based on the fact my cheat is cold, and so is my whole body. The heat benefit of the blanket is enough to warm me up, so it's very evident I wasn't here.

I told her to be quiet and lay back down, caressing her cheek softly. "Shh, go to bed."

She shakes her head slowly, still waking up. "No," Daisy mumbles, grabbing onto my arm gently.

"Daisy, go to sleep. I'm okay." I said quietly, trailing my eyes at her.

This time her eyes open entirely, slowly sits up. "Let me see."

"Daisy..." I trail off, flaring through my nostril.

"Let me see." Daisy repeats her sentence, almost sounds demanding.

I shrugged a little in frustration, but I had no choice. I remove the blanket and reveal the dark wounds around my body; multiple scars ripped onto my chest. I watch her facial expression change, her eyebrows raising worryingly. Daisy slowly placed her hand on my chest, and I couldn't help but stare at her hand for a second.

"Who did this?.." she asked, her tone completely changing.

I trail my eyes back to hers. "Not this again, Daisy." I rest my head on the pillow, shutting my eyes in irritation.

"No, no, no, no-no," Daisy says quickly, almost demandingly. "You have to tell me."

"What difference does it make?" I said instantly, opening my eyes as I immediately faced her.

Daisy glanced at me, but her expression fell utterly. She didn't look worried anymore but instead wholly numb.

"Alright, well, let me get the kit." She stated quietly, almost raising herself from the bed until I grabbed onto her knee, pushing her down.

"It's fine. I need some sleep."

"But Bruce-"

"Daisy, please," I mutter, shutting my eyelids. She didn't say anything, and I figured she probably got up since I couldn't feel her presence.

But come to my surprise, Daisy cuddles into me. I let out another groan before slowly wrapping my arms around her. It didn't matter how much it hurt; I could manage it as long as she was here.

"I'm sorry." She mumbles into my chest. I shake off my head lightly.

"Don't say sorry. I know you care. That's why."

The silence came back, so I take the opportunity to get some rest finally.

Hours went by, and I woke up from the sound of Daisy walking upstairs. My eyes trail off towards the door, and she is fully dressed. I slowly sit up, rubbing my eyes gently.

"Good morning," I mumble.

"Good afternoon," Daisy says, scanning herself through the mirror in my room. Time must've passed pretty quickly.

I look back up and notice she's wearing a tight black dress, one of her legs exposed on the side, and it's showing her naked arms and half of her chest.

"Where are you going?" I said raspily before rising from the bed, inching further to her.

"A celebration at work," She mutters under her breath, fixing the strings that hold onto her dress.

"Would you like to come?" Daisy asks, although her tone seems to be a bit cold. I figure she still felt some way about what happened early in the morning.

I narrow my eyes and inches behind her, slowly placing both of my hands on top of her shoulders. "I'm sorry for earlier. I'll make it up to you."

"No, Bruce..." she trails off, facing me. "It's fine, and you don't have to make it up for me."

"Daisy.."

"No. It's fine, I promise." Daisy smiles softly to prevent me from asking any questions, and I simply nod and walk over to the closet.

"Well, let's go then," I said, grabbing my suit before throwing it on the bed.

"You're coming?" She asked, flickering her fingertips together.

I scoff a little and tilt my head back. "Of course, I have to."

I look back at my suit, figuring out how to tell her about something quite significant that I left in there. I didn't necessarily plan it out the right way.

Things didn't go as planned for me, but for Daisy, it did. She interacted with everyone, and well, let's just say the ladies tried to have more than one conversation with me. I simply nod, unfazed by their attempt to talk to me; meanwhile, I glance towards Daisy, who's having a conversation with a co-worker.

Daisy turns her gaze towards me with a big smile planted on her lips, walking closer to me.

"Alright, guys, it was lovely!" Daisy says, shaking their hands off. "I have to go. It's too late."

"Ah, I just came. You should stay longer." The sound of James appearing from the stairs. He removes his jacket with a soft smile, but I look at Daisy, utterly unbothered by his presence.

I couldn't help myself but smile at her reactions.

That's my girl.

"Unfortunately, we have to go," Daisy says, gluing her arms around me.

James looks at me for a second, nodding a little. "Fair enough. Well, it was nice to see you."

Daisy nods a little and grabs my hand, guiding us towards the elevator. I would be lying if I said I didn't like how she didn't care for him.

I laugh a little as we leave the building, in which she changes her attention to me.

"What?" She asks in confusion, and I simply shake my head at her.

"Say it!" Daisy says with a massive grin on her face.

I couldn't help but wrap my arm around her shoulder, taking the lead through the city.

"The way you spoke to him, very fancy," I said jokingly, making her chuckle as she wrapped her left arm around me.

I couldn't help but take off my jacket, wrapping it around her. "Now, I don't know what came to your mind, thinking it would be great not to bring your coat."

"I thought the weather would be great today!" She protests with a small laugh.

"Daisy, we live in Gotham." I arch an eyebrow, laughing at her for a second which she exchanges back.

I held onto her, watching each streetlight lit up. I figure the time must've passed around ten since everything is lightened up. We grab some Chinese food from an old place that I know of. Daisy held the bag, whistling for a bit, which made me instantly smile at her.

"I see you having fun?" I said playfully, to which she laughed and nodded.

Daisy looked up at me for a second, and I had a feeling she was admiring me. I peek down at her. in which she is. Her beautiful Bambi eyes are glimpsing through the lights, with a smile appearing on her lips.

Is that the look? The look from a woman, who knows she's in love with me ultimately?

I stop my track, continuously looking at her. "You're staring."

She follows my track and smiles even brighter. "I know."

My smile grows as I plant a kiss on her forehead. "Let's go home. I'm sure your hungry."

Daisy nods and scans the area, pointing towards a bench. "We could sit there."

I look at whatever she's pointing at and directly back at her. "Daisy, it's cold. I'm sure your freezing."

"It's not every day a billionaire just sits outside to eat. Come on!" She said jokingly, releasing her grip off of me and running towards the bench.

I heard the sound of her heels clicking on the ground, which made me instantly follow her. Daisy uses the coat I gave her to sit on it, preventing her dress from getting wet as she places the bag on the bench. I sit beside her and chuckle a little, folding out the Chinese food for her.

"You know, you look adorable from a distance," I said, trailing my eyes at her to watch her smile for a second till I focus back on the food. I hand her the little box and grab each chopstick for her, which she carefully takes in her hand.

"And you look quite handsome yourself, Mr. Wayneee." She drags my name flirtatiously, which made me laugh a little. I left the other box inside the bag for Alfred, holding my small box for myself.

Daisy starts talking about whatever happened at work. I glanced at her, but I couldn't hear anything for a second. My mind is entirely focused on her. She looks so stunning when she talks about her opinions; her eyes lighten up from excitement. The way she picks up her food and swallows the noodles, yet continuously talks. She's comfortable around me; that's all I ever wanted.

"But there were so many files left back that I couldn't keep up with it. So instead, I left them to Jack, and he handed them to Hannah." Daisy chuckles a little, but her expression slowly drops as her eyes widen. She noticed I was staring pretty long.

"What's the matter? Is there something on my face?" She said worryingly, which made me laugh a little more.

"No. You just look so beautiful." I said, not leaving my gaze off of her.

I could see her turn red, slightly smiling. "You're adorable."

I smile a little, looking at my pocket until I reach my hand in there.

"Daisy..." I trail off, knowing her eyes are on me. My eyes still focused on the pocket, digging out a small black box. If anything, I have to thank Alfred for doing this. He bought an outstanding ring.

I quickly look up at her and rest my elbow on my thigh. I opened the small box in my hands to reveal a mahoosive twenty-four carats with an emerald-cut diamond ring.

"Would you give me the honor to marry you?"
