《ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴀᴛᴍᴀɴ.》37.

I didn't manage to come home early. The time has already passed, around seven in the morning. Things got complicated when I had to put Penguin's plan down based on what James Gordon provided with the information. I figured Penguin would try to control everything now that Carmine and Tom are gone. Like I said before, anybody will try to take the chance of taking over Gotham.

I shut the door behind me, still wearing the batsuit from last night. Now that I didn't have to change my outfit before heading home, it was more relieving for me. On top of this fact, I didn't have to sleep in the guest room anymore.

I made it to the main room as I darted my eyes toward the kitchen. Completely quiet, I shrug it off until I remove my mask and leave it on the desk, groaning a little from the pain around my waist. I ignored the pain several times, but that guy hit harder than I thought.

"Good morning." The sound of Alfred's voice broke the silence in the kitchen. I turn my head to him, nodding a little. I grasp onto the counter, removing the belt wrapped around me as I groan a little more.

"I assume you are hurt?" He said quietly, limping towards me. I quickly raise my palm in the air, signaling him not to come any further.

"I'm fine," I said with a lower voice. "It's manageable."

Alfred shrugs a little as he limps towards the fridge and grabs a bag of ice. "Use this for your advance." He slides it through the counter as it reaches beside me, and I hold onto it and gently press it on the side of my waist.

He immediately started making coffee for both of us and went out of his way to make breakfast for Daisy. Alfred knows I don't eat as much, so he didn't make a significant proportion.

I slowly sit on the edge of the chair, removing my gloves as I throw them on the side of the counter.

"She's asleep?" I asked, still pressing the ice against me.

"Indeed she is," Alfred says, handing me the cup of coffee. "And she got work today."

I nod slightly, not releasing my attention to the bag of ice resting against my waist.

"How did she react to Batman?" Alfred says, taking a small sip from the coffee as he waits for my response. My eyes slowly trail off to nowhere, meanwhile flaring through my nostril.

"Still trying to accept it," I said, looking at Alfred by now. He nods at me slowly as he licks his upper lip from the small stain of coffee.

"Well, it is a lot to handle." He states.

Alfred wasn't wrong. It is a lot to take in. And to accept the man you are falling in love with can be challenging. I already know how Daisy is; she is protective but gentle with it, so I understand where she comes from when she has to accept something impossible to walk into. But this is my life, and I choose this for the better.

"Good morning." Daisy appears in the kitchen, yawning a little as she notices I'm still wearing my suit but is more worried about the ice bag.

"Oh my god, are you okay?" Her voice instantly changes worryingly, quickly stepping towards me as she rests one of her arms against mine.

"I'm fine," I said quietly, giving her a nod. She didn't move a muscle; instead, she stood there for several minutes.

Alfred places the plate beside the chair next to me, hinting at it towards Daisy. She instantly thanked him for breakfast, but her gaze didn't leave mine.

"Are you sure?" She asked as she sat on the chair beside me.

"I'm fine, I promise."

I love the way she worries about me. It's those little tiny things that make me appreciate her even more.

She gently wipes the surface under my eyelid, noticing I haven't removed the black makeup around my eyes.

"Well, makeup suits you," Daisy said jokingly, which caused me to laugh a little.

She ate her food, and I couldn't help but watch her eat. How is it possible for someone to still look gorgeous as they eat?

"I have to hurry. I got a tight schedule today." She mumbles as she quickly sips from her coffee; it made me chuckle a little.

"I assume your boss needs your help, per usual?" I asked, pressing the ice even more.

"Well.." she trails off as she rises from her chair and grabs the plate, leaving it at the sink. "He asked me to go with him alone to grab a couple of files from another business."

"Alone?" I rasp, narrowing my eyebrows.

"Yes, it's not a big deal, to be honest. Just a quick check-up." She mutters as she looks at me for a second.

"Why alone?" My voice sounds more concerning than irritating, but I can't deny it did bother me.

Why does a grown man need his assistant to attend with him, with files in her hands? You got a car, you can leave the files in there instead of having her wander around like your puppy.

"I don't know, Bruce." She said straightforwardly, taking another sip from her coffee.

I shrug a little, shaking my head as I look back at the ice.

"I hope you're not jealous," Daisy says, racing an eyebrow at me. I instantly look back at her and squeeze my eyes in disbelief.

"Why would I be jealous? He is not half of what I am."

She laughs a little. "Alright, cocky-self."

I scoff with no humor in my voice; after all, I never liked James Clinton or Nate. He didn't necessarily do anything to me, but he genuinely has no idea what to do regarding his business. And when it comes to Nate, no comment because I didn't have anything on him. He is a genuine guy, but not for my woman.

Daisy places her cup on the counter and leaves the kitchen, but I watch her disappear at the doorway till I look back at my leg.

"Are you going, to be honest with her?" I hear Alfred appears with his coffee in his cap, leaving it on the sink.

"Honest about what?" I asked. My tone came off a bit rough without my notice.

"Well, if I'm not wrong, you sound a bit desirous."

"I'm not. It just doesn't make sense."

Alfred gives me a friendly smile. "Don't do anything stupid."

"I won't.." I trail off and leave the ice bag on the counter. "I'll just go visit her."

"That's exactly what I'm talking about," Alfred mutters, limping his way out of the kitchen.

I scoff a little with no interest in making it funny. How bad can it possibly be to stop by and say hello? After all, I care for her safety; it doesn't matter if bad guys are after her or not, but I have to make sure she's doing alright, and this so-called 'James' isn't making it difficult for her.

Hours went by, and I had some strong enough to take off the suit and take a shower. I grab onto my casual outfits till I decide to head out to her office. Alfred kept telling me it was a bad idea and I should stay home, but it was just a quick check-up. Nothing too bad.

The elevator took longer than I expected as I waited for the final opening. I didn't want to come empty-handed, and I surely had a hard time showing the way I love, but I managed to buy her some roses, and they reminded me of her, although I never asked her what her favorite flower was.

It finally stops, and the door opens automatically, slowly stepping out. The entire area is filled with tables and people walking back and forth. I squeeze my eyes slightly as I clean my throat, inching further inside. I couldn't find Daisy anywhere, so I managed to ask somebody where James' office was. The lady points towards what appears to be the door to his office. I thank her and quickly speed my way.

I didn't bother to knock; instead, I opened the door and saw Daisy sitting on the desk and laughing with James. My eyes narrowed at the vision, but I didn't say anything. I hold my breath behind pursed lips to steel myself against their laughter. I could feel the frustration building up beneath it, disliking whatever he did to make her laugh.

I'm not jealous; I know myself enough that I cannot be an envious person, but something in me triggered me to despise the way he had his hand reaching for hers. Luckily enough, she didn't touch his, but I could tell he was launching for something.

They both glances at me; in which James coughs awkwardly and leans further back on his chair, and Daisy's eyes widen in surprise.

"Bruce, what are you doing here?" She asked, and I innocently smiled from exploding on the inside.

"I came by to bring you flowers." Her expression fell but switched into a colossal smile; I could tell she was happy.

"Really?" She says softly as she raises herself from the table, inching closer to me. I gently lifted the pile of roses I was holding, wrapped in plastic. Her eyes dart to me with the same loving expression before her attention trails to the roses, grabbing hold of them.

"Thank you so much." She said truthfully, in which I took the opportunity to kiss her forehead gently. I look at James, who trails his eyes to the files.

How odd. He didn't say hello to me.

"Well, nice to see you again, James," I said with no interest in my voice. James instantly peeks up, and a small smile appears on his lip.

"Sure is nice to see you again."

That's when I knew instantly he was interested in her. I didn't say a thing; I wrapped my arms around her and squeezed her in for a side hug.

"How's work?" I look back at her, in which she responds that everything is excellent. I nod slowly and dart back at James with a slight smirk.

"How is my girlfriend doing, I believe she's doing great?"

He taps his pen against the table, nodding slowly. "Of course, one of the best."

"I'm sure she is," I Instantly respond back. "After all, she is smart."

James trials his eyes back to the files. "Indeed." He said quietly.

I look at Daisy and smile at her softly. "I have an idea your time is up. You coming along?"

She smiles and nods in excitement. I look back at James for a second.

"Nice to meet you again, James. I hope you'll have a lovely day."
