《ᴛʜᴇ ʙᴀᴛᴍᴀɴ.》20.

Seven in the morning. The rain didn't stop last night. The shadows slowly disappeared from each corner. Dropheads wander around the city, eagerly looking for any substance. The criminals disappeared in their roots, hiding in the dark; The light warned them last night. The criminals filled up Gotham, but it could be any moment when I would step back in; it's a big city, after all. I can't be everywhere, but they don't know where I am.

I grab my sunglasses from the desk. The Sun bothers me more than usual. I hold a cup of coffee Alfred has prepared for me this morning, and my eyes barely had any rest. My attention quickly trails off to the window, flashing the entire city; Many women giggling to each other with colorful wigs and almost visibly seeing each part of their body, clicking their high stilettos. In the corner of the building, I know a bunch of addicts sitting outside in the cold.

I can't save everyone, but neither can I protect people who choose their consequences.

"Hi." I hear the familiar angelic voice as I tilt my head to the doorway. It's Daisy.

"Good morning," I muttered, placing my coffee on the counter beside the table. "Alfred made you breakfast." Darting my eyes back to the window and digs my hands in my pockets. I hear her tiny feet walk inside.

"How did you sleep?" She asks.

I shake my head lightly. "I didn't sleep."

"Ah.." she trails off before continuing with her sentence. "Batman?"

I narrow my eyebrows for a second as my head trails off to her. My lips tighten from breathing, and the stillness consumes my body.

"Did you try to find him, you know, to hand him the letter?" She arched her left eyebrow. I felt instant relief and took a deep breath, shaking my head.

"No." She nods at my response and proceeds to grab herself some pancakes with fresh berries, heading to the chair beside the kitchen counter.

This would be an excellent opportunity to tell her that she could go home since she's not a threat anymore. But for my defense, I didn't want her to leave. Again, protection and no feelings involved.

"I'll be heading to work-"

"What happened with working at the Iceberg Lounge?" I quickly interrupt, curious for that matter.

Daisy looks at me in confusion, tilting her head a little. "Well, I changed road. I still work there now and then, but I try to change my lifestyle a little." She says truthfully. "Plus, the 44 below is busier than Iceberg Lounge."

I squeeze my eyes and inches closer to the counter. "What is 44 below?"

She looks at me with an evident expression as if I should've known what it is. "It's the club inside the club."

I didn't remember Katherine ever telling me about it, but she must know. "Does Katherine still works there?"

She nod. "Yeah, in fact, she works in 44 below more than the iceberg lounge now. The iceberg lounge is merely cops just chilling; the 44 below is where people who shouldn't be there."

"Like who?"

Daisy chuckles a little, taking a small bite from her food. "Like the entire D.A. "

I figure it's where I had to go, but I can't get in. With or without the Batman suit, since it's for the D.A only. I did manage to get inside the iceberg lounge, but not without a fight, which is also how Daisy met me the first time.

"Call Katherine. I need to talk to her," I reply sharply before leaving Daisy alone in the kitchen.

Katherine manages to come to the manor with Daisy's cat. I didn't know any of this, and indeed not that Daisy needed her cat around for some reason. She calls it Cookie, I remember. It's entirely black with green-yellow eyes, and sometimes its pupils dilate in the dark.

"Alright, so what do you need?" Katherine asked; meanwhile, Daisy stands right beside her, cuddling with her cat.

I nod towards my office, signaling Katherine to follow along. I drop a couple of files I have saved of the entire complex of the club, pressing my pinky finger on the top of the drawing. "The 44 below. Where is it?"

Katherine looks at me for a couple of seconds before inching closer to the papers, pointing underneath the iceberg lounge. "Right here."

"Is it possible for you to get down there?"

"Yes, I work there to satisfy the customers."

"You are a bottle girl like Daisy?" I asked, which made Katherine scoffs. "Definitely not." She replies.

I look back at the drawing, focusing on the essential parts. "I gave you the lenses for me to look through, and I need you to wear them tonight to see what's happening."

"Trust me, Bruce," she says before proceeding with her sentence. "You do not want to see the entire D.A down there, if you are a good man with good intentions."

"I have already seen a couple of mayors at the iceberg lounge. The entire government in the 44 below wouldn't cause damages for me." I look up at her as I lean toward the drawing. She shrugs a little and nods.

"When?" She asks, folding her arms.

"Tonight."

"I'll come." Daisy quickly insists, inching closer to the doorway, still proceeding to cuddle with her cat.

"No, you're not." My voice lowers as I lean up.

Katherine laughs a little. "Wovsa, you truly are protective of her."

I look back at Katherine as she laughs a little more meanwhile Daisy shrugs in frustration.

"I'm going, Bruce." She protests annoyingly. I didn't let her win this, at least not when it comes to her protection.

"You are not going to 44 below. Not under my watch." I respond demandingly, which causes Daisy to scoff a little.

Katherine looks at us in surprise, but with a smile creeping onto her lips. "You guys truly act like an old couple, matter fact, a married couple."

I look at Katherine with straight annoyance, causing her smile to drop immediately.

Daisy didn't convince me to walk with Katherine back to the club in the 44 below section, but she did it anyway. It irritated me how openly her clothes were, but I know how the Iceberg Lounge is supposed to be. Open skirts and dresses, or anything more visible to catch a glimpse of.

It didn't bother me before, but it's been a while since I had Daisy back in my life. If I didn't... Wonder what she was up to as much. She would've been in her bed right now and not spying on Katherine and me.

I sit in the abandoned train depot, watching Katherine's eyes recording the event. Katherine must've forgotten I can hear everything through the chip as she starts a conversation with Daisy in the elevator, waiting on the destination to 44 below.

"I think he has a crush on you, and he can't accept it himself. Perhaps he denies it to himself so it won't fear him. A man like him sounds like the type to be scared to fall in love." Katherine said, scoffing a little.

"I don't know..." Daisy says, shrugging a little as Katherine darts her eyes towards her, revealing her expression through the camera. "I don't think he does. This is truly just a job for him and whatever he needs the information for. This truly looks like something Batman would do since he wants to be captain safe the city-"

"Daisy," Katherine interrupts. "Bruce Wayne's father donated billion dollars to save this city. Of course, he would care to know what is going on."

"But he can't fix it, at least not alone," Daisy mutters.

Katherine shrugs a little. "Well, you can go out with Nate at this point. He is a nice guy, after all.

Nate? Who is Nate?

"The boy at the coffee shops?" She looks at Katherine with a slight chuckle. "Yeah... You're right. I could see that."

"If you didn't wear the pink wig right now, I would say you guys are a perfect match." They both laughed a little till the elevator came to a stop.

I'd have to admit that Daisy did look good with the long pink hair with bangs, but my mind is wandering around this guy, Nate. Who the hell is Nate?

The door reveals the sound of high blasting music, and the first person that shows itself is Penguin standing next to a bodyguard, I assume. Katherine holds Daisy's hands and proceeds on walking in, greeting people in a flirtatious manner. She talks to everyone until one person's face scans through the camera.

Pete Savage, the commissioner of the police department, was one of them. He looks at Katherine with tense eyes, darting at her outfit with a seductive smirk. Katherine continues to walk past him until she sees Pete holding onto Daisy.

"What are you two beautiful girls doing here?" Pete savage laughs as he wraps his arms around Daisy. I could tell Daisy was uncomfortable.

I clench my jaw and fold my hand into a fist, digging my nails onto my palm. I wasn't sure why I was floating with anger.

Luckily Katherine grabbed Daisy and removed his grip on her, laughing at him. "Ah, you're so sweet!" She immediately changes the subject.

"How about you take some more drops, will ya?" Which made Pete dart his eyes at the table, grabbing the silver plate.

"Keep going," I say into the mic, which immediately hits Katherine that I could hear them. She didn't say anything but proceeded to go deeper inside the 44 below.

The entire area is filled with D.A's members, and they were all entertaining themselves with high substances of drugs and alcohol, women as well. I notice Gil sitting with two people from the D.A as it scans each face. I proceed to ask Katherine to sit with them. Daisy isn't with her by this time, and I should've asked, but I had to hear what Gil was trying to mumble out to Katherine.

"I missed you. It's been a while." Gil smiles innocently, which causes Katherine to touch his kneecap with a gentle stroke. "I missed you too, sweetheart." Hearing the numbness in her voice.

"You see, they do it again. First Tom, then this." He chuckles nervously, shaking his head before holding the silver plate up to Katherine, which she denies and tells him to take it himself.

"But this was part of Carmine's plan anyway, to kill Tom. So I guess whoever did it did him a favor."

I squeeze my eyes as I proceed to swallow the information I just heard. "Ask him why he tried to kill Tom."

"Hey, why did he try to kill him?" Katherine asks. Gil looks back at her after taking drops, coughing a little.

"Well, it was already too late for Tom. His reputation was destroyed, and we needed him to protect Carmine, but now Bella is winning every election."

"Ask why," I said instantly, so she did.

Gil laughs nervously, swaying a little. "Whoever this guy is, we are doomed." He completely ignored the question. Gil gets up from his chair and points at Katherine, almost too faded to speak his mind. "But you are a gorgeous woman. Things a man would do to kiss your feet", he says as he walks towards the bar.

Katherine looks at the rest of the D.A sitting down as if they are preying to hunt for her. She rolls her eyes softly and turns her attention to the area, immediately realizing that Daisy isn't around. She gets up from her seat and starts wandering around.

"What are you doing?" I quickly stroll off, eagerly needing the information about Carmine's plan.

"Daisy, she's not here!"

That's when it instantly hit me, Daisy. I grab my coat behind my chair without any hesitation to sprung out the door until I hear Katherine shrug out loud through the speaker attached to the computer.

"There you are!"

I look back on the screen, seeing Daisy smiling at Katherine. I couldn't help but smile at her for a second as if she was smiling at me.

"Don't ever walk away from me. You had me scared!"

"What are you two lovebirds doing here?" The raspy voice from a familiar male figure shows himself as Katherine darts her eyes towards him. Carmine Falcone.

"We are doing our job, silly," Katherine says confidential, but Daisy nervously wraps her arms around her.

Carmine forms a smirk and looks at Daisy. "You look like you've seen a ghost, sweetheart. Aren't you happy?"

Katherine looks back and forth at Daisy and Carmine, trying to puzzle it herself.

"Tom, he ain't here to hurt you." He says, inching closer to Daisy but looking back at Katherine with the same smirk.

"She still needs a moment, and you know how we girls are." Katherine's voice turns higher than usual.

Carmine takes a second, nodding slowly with his eyes focusing on Katherine.

"Take care of ya yourself. You'll need it when you're down here." He says, then turning his attention to Daisy.

"And say hi to Bruce for me, will ya?"
