《Burned (Hate at First Flight #2) ✔️》20. Discovering the Golden Ratio

After another two hours of catching some literal waves and ringing water out of my ears many times, Will finally decided that we should head back to the mansion before Douglas started looking for us.

As we drove back to the mansion in Douglas' Camaro, I tried to ask him as slyly as possible to tell me why Douglas didn't want to come as that might shine some light on his sudden change of attitude towards me. I was still contemplating whether he was pulling a typical Mean Girls move, pretending to be nice before he returned back to demonic, whether he was just feeling guilty about the fall on Sunday or whether he was actually nice, as Nancy, Will and Dylan have told me on several occasions.

However, Will caught wind of my plan and laughed in my face. "Nice try, Krys."

"Come on," I huffed in frustration as I tried my best to not sound whiny. "What's the big secret anyway?"

Will continued to stare ahead as he turned a bend too fast. Without the safety of my seat-belt (which I had neglected due to my frustration), naturally the law of motion and physics occurred and I flew in front. Luckily, Will noticed and his hands suddenly were against my chest holding me steadily, keeping me from flying.

He sighed as he pulled his hands back. "Put on your seatbelt, Krys. I thought I told you to do that as soon as you get in any car."

I rolled my eyes before puling the seatbelt and fastening it tight. "There. Happy?"

He nodded before he went back to driving and continued to ignore my question.

"Will?" I pouted.

He didn't even bother giving me a glance.

"Fine," I shrugged. "I wasn't even the littlest bit curious."

This time he glanced my way, but only to cast me a look of pure disbelief. "Right." His voice also reiterated his expression.

"I'm serious." I wasn't, but I had resigned myself to the fact that Will wasn't telling me anytime soon so why waste my energy, plus I wasn't one to show him he had beaten me.

"I don't believe you."

"And you don't have to," my eyes caught the sign up ahead and instantly my stomach started complaining. My mouth watered staring at the huge yellow M up ahead but I knew better than to say anything to Will about it.

We needed to get back to Douglas soon before either Mr Burns found out I had again ignored my job description, or Douglas decided he had had enough of playing disguise the wolf and inform his father about me ignoring my job description. Besides, I was pretty sure I had a day old, half-eaten bar of Snickers in my bag somewhere, maybe at most it was one week old.

Unfortunately, Will noticed, glancing at where the embarrassing sound was coming from before he looked at me. His eyes went back onto the road ahead and swifty landed on the same sign that was blatantly flaunting its tempting promises. "Hungry?"

I shook my head. "Not so much. I can handle it." As if it was punishing me, my stomach growled again, giving evidence to my lie.

Without another word, Will turned and drove towards the big M.

"What are you doing?" I asked, as my eyes widened. Now was not the time to be turning somewhere that didn't lead to the mansion.

"You need something to eat, Krys," He said before he turned into the eatery.

"I told you, I can handle it. Now turn back around and drive towards the mansion before Douglas-"

"Douglas," he interrupted as he pulled up behind the black Sedan that was parked at the first window of the drive-thru, "can wait. Trust me. You on the other hand, cannot."

"I'm not that hungry, Will." Just as the words escaped my stomach growled again. Shut up, stomach! "Okay fine," I muttered as I saw him looked at me amused, his brows arched teasingly. "But we don't have time right now."

"Wait," he smirked, "did you really think I turned here just for you? I'm hungry too, Krys. A bag of cheetos and some complimentary sub sandwich isn't enough for a growing, healthy boy."

My face flushed red at his words. And here I thought he had done this for me. And to think I had offered him my complimentary sub sandwich too, because I wasn't hungry at the time. Damn you stomach! I cursed inwardly at the thought that my stomach decided now to chose to eat when a perfectly good sub sandwich was now being digested by the boy beside me. "Fine."

He smirked as he again won over me today.

"So what are you having?" The person at the window asked as we finally pulled up in front of him.

Will looked over at me questioningly.

I glanced at the menu. "Get me a Big Mac meal with Cherry Cola and a large sundae."

"Same for me," Will relayed to the guy before handing over the money.

"How much do I owe you?" I asked as soon was we pulled over at the car park because Will said he didn't like eating inside the place and was so hungry he could devour an elephant.

He waved it off before he pulled out my burger and handed it to me. "Don't worry about it."

"Will," I pulled out my purse anyway. "You already paid for my season pass. You're not paying for my meal too."

"It's alright, Krys. Geez, just take the food and eat before your stomach dies of hunger." He pushed the burger at me. "Besides, I was the one who forced us into eating here, because I was so hungry. So I should be paying for the food."

"We both know you're lying."

"Fine. Then let's count this as payback for Monster Burger okay? Because Douglas found out."

I scoffed. "This is nowhere close to making up for the Monster Burger."

He nodded, "Fine. I'll buy you five more later. Happy?"

I finally took the burger. "Six burgers, actually."

He looked me over as if I was alien as I unwrapped the burger and started biting into it, my hunger now clearly evident. Then he nodded approvingly, a smile etched onto his face. "Glad you're not one of those girls that wouldn't stuff herself in front of a guy."

I nodded as I bit into the burger again and also chewed a fry at the same time. "It's simple really. Those girls were trying to impress the guy because they liked them in a romantic way. I'm like this because I see you as a friend. Heck, you could be naked right now and I wouldn't find it hard to swallow my food." Tell that to you oggling him today!

His smile now disappeared. "Way to let a guy down easy, Krys." The sarcasm was visible as he bit into his burger, his eyes now on the steering wheel instead of on me.

I smiled. "Of course. After you tried to steal my burger, saw me devour a Monster Burger and tricked me with your bullshit heads and tails reasoning, you've officially landed in the 'platonic category', my friend."

He didn't say a word as he finished up his burger. After drinking what seemed like half of his Cherry Cola he nodded and gave me a half smile. "I guess I shouldn't steal a pretty girl's burger next time."

I finished my fries before I answered him. "Obviously."

"So," he finished his drink before placing it back in the cup holder, "remember last week Saturday, when I said I had something Douglas wanted and that that's why he would let you off the hook?"

I nodded. "Yes, you never did tell me what that was."

"You'll find out soon," he replied before he turned on the engine. "I gave it to him."

After myriads of guesses ranging from a yacht to a pet lion that fell on deaf ears, Will pulled up outside the Burns mansion. Thankfully I noted the absence of a certain black Rolls Royce that belonged to a certain tycoon that would certainly end my chances at secular work if he found out I had ditched a certain son I was supposed to watch.

However, instead of the black Rolls Royce, I found an unfamiliar silver BMW M3 parked where it usually was.

"No, it's not a UFO, Krys. Now stop with this ridiculous guesses," Will groaned in frustration as he parked the car.

"How about a BMW M3?" I asked as we got out if the car and I got a better look at it. "Don't you think it's a little...hmm, I don't know, un-Douglas like?"

"What are you t-?" He stopped short when he finally noticed the car. "Let's go inside." He headed towards the front door even before I replied to him, which left me no other choice but to inevitably follow after him.

I only caught a glimpse of Will before he slipped into the living room. I made to follow after him but stopped when I heard the undeniable echo of laughter and giggles echoing from their midst.

What was that?

"Remember when we were eight and you decided you wanted to be Supergirl for Halloween?" I heard the clear trill of Douglas' voice echo from within and reach me.

The giggles echoed again for a few seconds before a sweet voice said, "I thought it was cool at the time, Doug. Don't blame me. Who decided to be Superman?"

"Guilty."

I decide to make my entrance then, hoping to find out what was happening.

I was both surprised and unsurprised as I found Douglas sitting by the armchair, Prince at his feet and an unfamiliar blonde sitting opposite him on the sofa, with Will sitting beside her.

From where I stood, I could tell that she was gorgeous, and that her looks would most probably have graced the covers of Vogue if given the chance. She had lustrous blonde locks flowing down past her shoulders, a well-proportioned face that would undeniably have suited the Golden Ratio and fair and flawless skin. Despite the fact that she was sitting, I knew she would have towered over me easily, judging her to be five foot eleven if not six feet. If Leonardo Da Vinci was still alive and saw her, he would have incorporated her as the portrayal of the ideal woman.

They all looked up when I entered, Douglas giving me a sliver of a smile which reminded me that he either was still maintaining his Mean Girls ruse or he still felt bad about the incident from Sunday, both of which I couldn't stand. I didn't like pity and I most definitely didn't need it.

"Finally," Will smiled. "I thought you couldn't move your feet from all that food you ate."

I scowled at him as I moved near them and stood of to the side, feeling awkward.

"Hi," the girl smiled at me innocently, which surprised me. Usually, girls with their faces were stuck up.

I nodded in acknowledgement before muttering low, "Hi."

She didn't seem undeterred by my lack of enthusiasm. Instead she stood up from her seat and closed the distance between us. She, as expected, towered over me. "Nice to meet you, Krystal, right?" Again she smiled, this time it was so bright it could have lit up the room.

I nodded. "And you too..." I still didn't know her name.

"Georgia," she replied as she offered a well-manicured hand to me. "Georgia Frost."

Maybe I was finally meeting the real Regina George and Douglas had only been the understudy.
