《3 Stepbrothers》The Math Test

Me and Mark walked into math class chuckling at what Cali had just said.
Shawn came up to us and looked at Mark, "I'm going to borrow Tori for a second."
Before me or Mark could react Shawn grabbed my hand and pulled me to the back of the classroom.
"Tori I'm freaking out!" Shawn whisper yelled.
"It's ok, just calm down," I tried to sound as soothing as possible.
Shawn groaned in frustration rubbing his face, "If I don't get a C I can't play football, and I might not be able to play soccer either."
"I know Shawn, but listen. It's just a piece of paper, we went through the material. You know all this, the other day you only missed two problems. Shawn I seriously think you can do this," I said.
He nodded, "Ok. Thanks Tori."
I smiled, "Anytime."
Shawn looked over my shoulder, "You can go back before Mark comes over and asks a bunch of questions."
I chuckled, "Good luck."
I walked away and sat beside Mark. More kids came in and took their seats. I looked over to Shawn and saw him tapping his pencil on the desk nervously.
"What's up with Shawn?" Mark asked.
I looked back at Mark, "I'll tell you later."
"Promise?" Mark said.
I chuckled, "Promise."
Everyone walked in and Blake sat behind me.
I turned to face him, "You gonna cheat off my work?"
He grinned and I instantly knew it was a yes. I rolled my eyes and turned back to the front of the class.
Mr.Farlez walked in, "Good morning class."
No one said anything, either way it looked like he was just saying that because he had to. I don't think he likes children.
"Today is our Unit Math test, it will count twenty percent of your grade," he said as he passed out the test, "You have the whole class period and you may begin as soon as you recieve the test."
A test finally reached me and I started working. Every so often I'd glance up at Shawn. His face would be scrunched up in concentration and he had the pencil eraser right under his upper lip. I went back to the math problem and worked on it.
"Alright class you have five minutes to finish circling your answers," Mr.Farlez said.
I had already finished and checked my work, so now I was just watching Shawn.
Maybe we shouldn't have played soccer last night. We should have been studying harder. Dammit.
Shawn circled the answers and put his pencil down. He buried his face in his hands, rubbing his face. Finally he looked at me, but there was just no expression on his face. It was blank. Finally he shrugged.
What does that mean? Does he think he did well? Did he just not care? The anticipation was killing me.
Mr.Farlez walked around the room collecting our tests as he did so he told us how we could find out score, "I will grade these next class and later today I will send out an email. I'm guessing you kids will just check your phones for that."

Well duh. This is the twenty-first century, I'm not actually going to check on a laptop unless I really have to.
"Alright, class dismissed." Mr.Farlez muttered going back to his desk.
I grabbed my things and watched as Shawn shot out the door before he could do or say anything.
All righty then, I thought.
The rest of the morning went by quickly. Finally at lunch time me, Mark, and Cali sat down at our lunch table. Soon to be joined by Em.
"Hey guys. Mind if I sit with you all?" She asked.
I shook my head indicating she could sit down. Cali smiled waving her hand on the chair.
"Please," Mark said, "Oh and don't mind my friends cat's got their tongue."
Me and Cali hit each of Mark's arm.
"Ow," he said rubbing his arms, "Abusive."
Em shook her head and sat down with a smile, "So how have you all been?"
"Good," Cali said.
"Abused," Mark replied.
I didn't hear the question. I was to busy thinking. So did Shawn pass? Did he fail? I thought he was ready but was he? I quickly glanced over to the table where he and my brothers sat. His head was hung low, just staring at his food.
"Tori," Mark said nudging my shoulder.
I snapped back to reality, "What? I was paying attention. What was the question?"
Our table laughed and I munched on a chip. We laughed and talked around the rest of lunch.
After lunch me, Mark, and Em headed for history. Em went and sat beside Shawn, who was staring off into space. I sighed and sat by Mark.
"What's wrong with Shawn?" Mark asked.
"I...don't know," I replied not knowing if I should tell Mark.
The teacher walked in and told us to take our seats. Everyone quieted down and listened as she gave the lesson.
During homeroom me and Mark talked about tomorrow and about the games we were going to play at the arcade.
"We need to play that game with the robots and the robot bugs," I said.
Mark laughed, "Not to forget the wack a moles."
Now it was my turn to laugh, "Right because we always played that when we were kids."
Mark grinned, "Yup. We used to wack those moles like we were made."
I smirked, "I used to wack the moles, you would just lightly tap on them thinking you'd kill them."
"That is not true," Mark said.
I raised my eyebrows at him and tilted my head.
"Ok. Ok so it's true, but I didn't want to hurt them," Mark added.
I laughed, "The girl always wins."
Mark shook his head and chuckled, "No I think I'm going to win tomorrow, and that's a fact."
"Yeah I'm so sure," I smirked, "So what time should I meet you there?"
"Same as always," Mark shrugged.
I chuckled, "Ok I'll see you then."

Then bell rang and everyone got up leaving the room. I headed to my bike mounting it and peddling towards the dirt road. When I was halfway home I heard my phone ring. I quickly stopped and checked the screen.
It read, New Email.
I opened it up and saw it was my score on the math test. 93. Awesome, I got an A. Then the worry kicked in. If I got my email did Shawn get his, and if he did what did he get. Please did he pass. I'm going to feel like a pretty bad tutor if he failed. But I taught him everything I could, if he failed he failed. But I seriously hope he did pass.
I hurried back home and parked my bike In the shed once I got there. I walked up the steps of the porch and into the house.
Suzie lay on the living room floor looking up at the tv.
"Whatch watching?" I asked.
"It's called Brain Games, Tori it is sooooo freaking cool!" She said.
I chuckled and turned to the kitchen. Blake was sitting at the counter eating a bag of chips and looking into his phone. Cole was there too only he was turned so he was facing the tv and watching the same as Suzie.
"It seriously is a good show," Cole said.
Blake looked up at me, "Oh you're here."
He looked back down at his phone and ate another chip.
"Where's Shawn?" I asked.
"In his room," Cole replied.
Why is he in his room?
Then Blake yelled, "Shawn! Tori's here!"
Lilly came up from the basement, "Must you yell?"
"Sorry I was just calling Shawn," Blake muttered never taking his eyes off his phone.
"Oh hey Tori," Lilly said.
"Hi Lilly," I said sitting beside Cole.
"So how did your math test go?" She asked.
"How did you know we had a test?" Cole asked.
"I got an email from the school saying that if Shawn didn't pass he'd be taken off the football team," She said sadly.
"I got a 72," Blake said.
"79," Cole said.
"93," I said.
Cole and Blake looked at me and Lilly smiled at me.
"I knew I should of cheated off of you," Blake muttered under his breath so only I could hear.
"That's awesome Tori, congratulations." Lilly said.
I nodded and looked over at Suzie.
"Yeah nice job Tori," Suzie said waving her hand.
I chuckled and shook my head. She was used to hearing this news.
"What about Shawn?" I asked looking back at Lilly.
"I don't know he locked himself in his room," Lilly said.
"Looks like your tutoring didn't work," Blake said.
"What did you teach him?" Cole asked.
"Math," I replied.
We heard footsteps upstairs and then they slowly came down. Shawn came to view and he was looking into his phone.
"Did-did you pass?" I asked.
Shawn shook his head, "No."
A huge weight felt like it was being pressed on my shoulders. How did he not pass? He was doing so well.
He walked over and showed me his phone, I read the email and my eyes widened. Shawn smiled.
"You-you-" I couldn't even finish the sentence.
"I freaking aced the test!" Shawn finished for me, "I got a 98!"
He suddenly hugged me and my feet came off the ground as he squished me in his bear hug.
I laughed, "You did better than me! I got a 93, how the heck did that happen?"
How did he score higher? I can't believe he aced the test, that's amazing. We were aiming for a C and he scored an A!
Blake and Cole grabbed his phone and looked at the email along with Lilly.
"How the fudge!?" Blake said.
"Congrats man!" Cole said joining the hug, "We need to celebrate thats the highest score you've ever gotten."
"Tori thank you so freaking much," Shawn said, "My math grade is now in the seventies and as long as I keep it there I can play!"
I laughed, "You are so welcome but can I ask you a favor?"
"Anything," Shawn repiled.
"Put me down," I said sweetly.
Shawn laughed and set me down, "I could like kiss you right now."
To prove his point Shawn kissed my head.
"Ew," I said pushing him back, "Now I have to shampoo."
Lilly laughed, "Shawn congratulations."
Suzie walked over, "Yeah congrats."
Shawn was so happy he picked up Suzie and spun her around in the air. She laughed and Shawn kissed her forehead.
"Thanks kid, you have a smart sister." He said.
I chuckled and sat down at the chair.
"Yeah she taught me how to divide fractions," Suzie said looking at me.
I shrugged.
"Thanks Tori," Shawn said again.
"I'm just glad you passed, you nearly gave me a heart attack when you said you didn't." I said.
"Well congrats man," Blake said giving him a man hug.
"So Shawn what would you like for dinner, tonight we'll have your favorite dinner." Lilly said.
Shawn thought for a minute, "Bean dip pasta."
Lilly chuckled, "Coming right up."
We all chuckled and sat in the living room. We watched some tv while Lilly made dinner. Dad came in a while later and when we shared the news he was really pleased. At dinner we all talked and ate Shawn's favorite meal. I was so happy for him, he even scored higher than me. I can't believe it. I told him he would do great and he did.
