"Oh great, we have tests to get through. I revoke my previous comment. I give up." I complained as we entered the cavern, being careful to avoid the spiked rocks. Lloyd lightly tapped my shoulder with his arm.
"Lighten up, sweetheart. You've got me here. I'm an expert at these 87% of the time." Lloyd assured me. I frowned at him as he smiled at me.
"87% percent of the time, what- wait wait wait-" I cut myself off, not elaborating as my voice died in my throat at the new nickname.
"What's wrong, Princess?" Lloyd questioned, though his smug smile told me all I needed to know.
"I, uh- ha." My voice cracked as I rubbed the back of my neck, finally casting my eyes down. My face burnt as I quickly tried to recollect myself. As if giving me the privacy to do so, Lloyd turned around, looking behind us.
"You okay, Harumi? You're trailing back." I glanced back at his comment, noticing what he said was true. Harumi gave a small smile, waving her hand.
"I'm just tired is all. Sorry." But her smile didn't reach her eyes, making me uneasy. Again, I was thinking about when we were kids, the memory that I had been unable to bring to the surface ever since we had been discussing the Quiet One on the boat. I only faced back to the cave (and my likely impending doom) when I heard Lloyd jump, then land. He was now on one of the pillars. It seemed they were the only way to get across, but that didn't mean I liked the looks of that.
"You think I can jump that far?" I asked as I trailed my eyes over the rest of the cavern. I shifted on my feet as I studied our surroundings further. The walls were dusted a light, glowing purple. I found it to be pretty, maybe even relaxing, which I couldn't say the same for the rest of the situation. Lloyd huffed, waving me along.
"You got other ideas?" He asked me and I nodded.
"Yeah. They all involve me not dying." I retorted, which only got me a glare from Lloyd.
"(y/n)." His tone held warning, one where he'd likely just jump back to where I was and drag me out there himself. I sighed, then stepped back.
"Fine. Fine. I get it, your Highness." I ran forward, jumping onto one of the stone pillars by Lloyd. I landed clumsily, then tilted forward with a squeal. A hand shot out, catching me and pushing me back up.
"Careful." Lloyd hissed out as his eyes flickered behind me. Harumi jumped, yelping as she landed on the pillar beside mine.
"You okay, Rumi?" I questioned, and she gave a quick nod as she stared at the dark abyss surrounding us.
"Yeah. Think so." I nodded at her reply, then watched as Lloyd quickly jumped from pillar to pillar.
"If the last mask is here, it won't come easily. Trust me, I've had my fair share of deadly tombs. Follow my every step." Lloyd said once he made it halfway through the cavern. He glanced back to us, only for a moment, before returning his eyes down.
"Alright. I'm trusting you." I murmured, then jumped to the next pillar trying to follow and keep up with Lloyd. I heard Harumi jump behind me, landing where I had been moments ago. Ahead of us, Lloyd jumped. He stood on the pillar for a moment, then it began to crumble from underneath him. Around us, the cavern began shaking, some rocks falling. "Lloyd." I cried out in panic as he quickly jumped to a neighboring pillar. He barely caught himself on the edge before clambering up to stand again.

"Okay. Don't touch anything with that symbol on it." Lloyd told us once the cavern stilled and we were surrounded in the quiet again. Lloyd pointed to another pillar with a symbol carved into the top. I quickly nodded, not wanting to experience the same fate he just did. I didn't think I'd even make it if I tried to.
Lloyd looked forward again, then continued to jump to the stairs. I followed after him, making sure to keep a good pacing. I could hear Harumi's steps follow mine, and we fell into a quick rhythm.
Suddenly, behind me I head the sound of rocks crumbling, and I turned to face Harumi, almost afraid she would be falling. She only stared at me with wide eyes as a pillar beside her crumbled.
"What's happening?" Lloyd cried as the cavern shook again, this time worst than the first.
"I don't know." Harumi and I both answered. "I didn't touch anything." Harumi added on. Lloyd's eyes flickered to me.
"I may be stupid, but not that much." I said with a scoff, offended he'd even think that of me. Lloyd shook his head,
"No, not that. The exit." Lloyd replied, quickly jumping back towards Harumi and me. I turned, seeing what he meant. My own face dropped at the realization that the opening was growing smaller.
"No. No, no, no." Harumi yelled in panic. The exit was closing on us, like a mouth around prey. Lloyd didn't even make it out, and Harumi and I didn't get to try. Lloyd sighed, his shoulders falling as he stared at the closed exit now.
"Guess there's no turning back now." Lloyd murmured, but his voice carried to where I was standing. I swallowed, watching as he made his way back to the front. A heavy feeling came over me as I jumped, following Lloyd. It wasn't until I crossed the halfway point myself that the cavern began shaking again, and I heard another pillar begin to crumble, followed by another.
"What now?" I hissed out. I looked back, seeing majority of the pillars to the front begin to crumble, only leaving a few in its wake. A sick feeling twisted in my gut as Harumi passed me now. "We gotta go." I shouted to the front. Lloyd glanced to us, then his eyes widened.
"Go, go!" He started moving faster, and Harumi did as well. I had a hard time keeping up with them, though the sound of the pillars breaking apart was enough motivation for me to keep trying.
Lloyd was the first to reach the steps, and he climbed up with ease, Harumi on his heels. I barely made it to the stairs myself as my pillar began to crack. I scrambled up the steps as they started breaking. As I reached the top, the stone supporting me collapsed.
I let out a yell as I fell, Lloyd and Harumi's face blurring. I shut my eyes, expecting a long fall, a quick death, but something grabbed onto my arm, jerking me to a stop. I let out a gasp as my eyes flew open. A new pain shot through my shoulder, feeling as if I'd ripped the muscle there or stuck it with a hot knife.
"It's okay, I've got you. I've got you." Lloyd whispered as he pulled me up. I gave a slight nod, not sure what to say. When my feet touched the ground again, I turned to look at the semi-dark abyss we had come from. Part of the stairs were still there, plus a few pillars leading to the entrance. I could've died. Again.

"Are you okay?" Lloyd asked, his voice soft as he grabbed my shoulder, then bent down to look at my face. I winced at his grip. Despite the gentleness of his touch, whatever had happened to my arm when he caught me had it hurting like hell.
"I-I think so. I will be when we get out of the place, at least. No more death traps for me." I answered and he nodded.
"What about you, Rumi?" Lloyd questioned, turning his eyes to her. She gave a stiff nod.
"Yes, but it's hard to see." She admitted. Lloyd shifted, then he leaned forward, grabbing something off the wall behind me. I tried to watch, seeing the outline of his arm raise up. A burst of green came to dance between his fingers. His own face was highlighted green from his small fire. Lloyd shot the fire to the wooden torch stick in his other hand. I let out a gasp, watching as the fire grew bigger to fit the surface of the torch. Now the area around us was bathed in the green light.
"Impressed?" Lloyd questioned and I smiled, turning my eyes from the fire to him
"I can't even deny it and say I'm not." I admitted. Lloyd let out a laugh, though I could tell it wasn't meant to poke fun at me.
"Here, you can hold it then." Lloyd held out the torch to me, and I grabbed it, feeling hesitant despite his offer. The wood was soft, and the fire offered some warmth as I held it. It was nice in contrast to the chill of my slowly drying clothes.
"Yes, after almost dying, this is like my reward." I smiled in triumph. Lloyd scoffed, shaking his head with a smile as he started down the tunnel. I followed after him falling in stride with Harumi.
"Are you alright? That was pretty scary back there." I said, looking to Harumi. I was trying to push away my own fear from that moment, swallow down the images as my mind replayed the moment over and over. I was seconds from falling completely, and without Lloyd I would've died.
"I'm fine." Harumi replied, her voice cold. I glanced to her, confused by her change in personality again. We had been fine before the boat fell over the waterfall. Maybe she was mad about that? Especially since we had no viable way to dry off so all three of us were walking, mostly soaked.
"What is this place?" Harumi asked, breaking me from my thoughts as we entered a larger cavern. I walked closer to one of the walls, holding up the light to it. Images were etched into the stone, spanning along the length of the wall. Lloyd followed behind me, turning his attention to the images as well.
"It's their story." Lloyd finally answered as he stepped closer to the wall, trailing a finger over some of the designs.
"Who?" Harumi pushed, though the answer was obvious to me. This was the Oni temple, what other story would be told? I pressed a palm to the wall, feeling the bumps of the designs etched into the stone.
"The Oni. See there?" Lloyd pointed to one of the drawings with a temple and different figures in front of it. "It's amazing." Lloyd said, turning to us with a smile. I returned it. It was fascinating, despite the near death traps to come here, we were looking at the direct history written out for us.
"They must've built this place." Harumi murmured with a smile and I nodded as Lloyd began walking away.
"When the First Spinjitzu Master escaped their world, they must of come looking for him." Lloyd continued for her.
"Who?" Harumi questioned for a second time. I glanced to her, confused. I wasn't sure if she was legitimately asking anymore or feigning confusion.
"The Oni. He was the key to winning their eternal war with the dragons." Lloyd said with a shrug. I followed him as he continued to walk along side the wall. "Ninjago was a new world to them. The Oni must've holed up here. Explains all the traps."
"They must not have wanted any visitors. I didn't know the Oni came here though. Wouldn't that be more publicized?" I asked. Lloyd shook his head, glancing to me.
"Not if the public wasn't aware in the first place. No one was coming out here, but I guess they just wanted extra insurance." I nodded at his answer. It made sense for them to be here, though I didn't know all about the Oni and Dragon. I knew of the masks and how valuable they are. If they wanted to keep it protected, a place like this would do so. Lloyd was the first to look back from the wall. His brow furrowed and I turned with him, seeing Harumi walking from us.
"Rumi?" I called, but she didn't answer. I shared a look with Lloyd before walking towards Harumi with him.
"This is a dead end." Lloyd sighed as he looked to the wall. Harumi gasped a few feet away.
"Look, the symbol from earlier." I stepped closer to her, seeing she was right. The pathway looked blocked by this wall, but the symbol meant bad news. I thought back to the previous cavern. We definitely knew that symbol was bad news by now.
"Maybe you could break through one of these walls." Harumi suggested, glancing to Lloyd. "If the symbol is on here, this one must be booby-trapped." Harumi voiced my thoughts. I nodded, turning to Lloyd. He was staring at the wall by us, then the one in front of him.
"Worth a shot." Lloyd said, turning to his wall. He pulled back one of his hands, and I watched as a green ball formed in his pals, the tendrils of it growing brighter. Then he stopped, lowering his hand. Lloyd bit his lip, looking conflicted as he looked to our wall again.
"What's wrong?" I questioned, stepping closer to him.
"If the Oni wanted to protect the mask, they would know anyone who got this far would avoid the markings." Lloyd explained. Harumi tilted her head as she stepped closer to him too.
"What do you mean?" She asked, though as I thought it over, I realized he was right. After the crumbling pillars, there's no way I'd choose the wall with the symbol. But that's exactly what the Oni would want me to do.
"This has to be the way." Lloyd told her, pointing to the wall with the symbol on it.
"But you see the water? If you break the wrong wall, this whole room will flood." Harumi replied as she pointed around the room. She frowned as she faced Lloyd again. Lloyd nodded his head, then let out a sigh. I understood Harumi's doubt, but after what we experienced, I trusted Lloyd with my life. If he was sure, then so was I.
"Then I sure hope I'm right." He said as he stood in front of the door. This time he pulled both hands back with a yell. A ball of energy quickly formed, then he threw it at the wall. I kept my eyes on the water as the stone crumbled in front of us, but it never moved. Lloyd let out a laugh of relief as the wall completely fell. "Let's go." He waved us forward with a smile. I found a smile coming onto my lips too.
"Mm. Green Ninja is smart. Tell me what qualities you don't have." Lloyd let out another laugh as we began walking down the new tunnel.
"I could let you see if there's any over a dinner." Lloyd suggested as he looked to me. I nudged him with my shoulder.
"I'll hold you to that. I feel like a dinner is nice after all this." I replied. This tunnel was shorter, and it didn't take us long to come into a new room. In the center was the last Oni mask bathing in a purple fire. Harumi let out a gasp behind me.
"The Mask of Hatred." Harumi whispered. Lloyd was the first to walk on the bridge, then Harumi behind him. I stared around the room, feeling sick. I knew this room, though I couldn't place from where. I slowly followed after Lloyd and Harumi as they crossed the bridge to the pedestal. Lloyd stayed at the end of the bridge, waiting for me, but Harumi continued to the mask. I watched as she reached for the mask, but something seemed to repel her hands. Harumi scowled, then tried again, but nothing.
"Only someone with Oni blood can take the mask." Harumi said as she turned her eyes to Lloyd and me. Lloyd frowned, then gave a shrug as he started for the mask. I glanced around the room, stomach twisting at the familiarity. Then, it hit me all at once. My dream from the other day. I had fallen and landed here, except then I was hurt. Why was I hurt?
I saw how Harumi's smile fell as she watched Lloyd step up to the pedestal. Her brows turned in, and she looked angry. Lloyd stayed oblivious, but I could see her expressions now. I realized it has been the ones I was brushing off before, but the anger and hatred was indisputable now.
"I'm sorry. I broke our promise." Harumi's small voice played in my mind as Lloyd stopped, staring at the mask in contemplation. Only a week before had she been officially adopted into the family when we made a promise to always tell the truth. That promise was the only thing that made her comfortable around me, as she never had a sibling before me.
"Your mother, she says Harumi is quite the quiet one. It's funny because the people who helped rescue her said the same thing." Hutchins voice echoed in my mind as I stared at Harumi. I had looked into her room in passing that night, and found her door open. She was staring at the wall, a deep frown on her face, the same frown she had on her face now as she let Lloyd get the mask. I let out a choked gasp at my realization, everything tumbling down on me as Lloyd reached forward.
"Lloyd, wait, no!" I cried out, running to him. I wasn't sure what I planned to do, but I couldn't let him get the mask. But I was too late, I was barely halfway before he had grabbed the mask, and the fire was out. Both Lloyd and Harumi looked at me, confused.
"What's wrong?" Lloyd questioned as I stopped and turned, standing between Harumi and him. I didn't answer, shaking my head as a whole new weight came onto my shoulders.
"Tell me it isn't you." I said as I stared at Harumi. I wanted so badly for my accusation to not be true after the nights I held so much guilt over thinking she was off, thinking it was just grief blinding her, making her act so differently, but now....
"What do you mean?" Harumi asked as she furrowed her brow, looking concerned now.
"I've lived with you for the last eight years of our lives, we grew up together. Don't pretend I'm completely stupid now, Rumi." I growled out. Lloyd gently touched my arm.
"(y/n), what are you going on about? What's wrong?" He asked, his voice soft enough to make me break. I shrugged him off, slowly beginning to glare at Harumi the longer she didn't answer.
"Sorry. Should I call you The Quiet One instead?" I hissed out, tears welling up from my frustration. How had I been so blind up until now? How could I have been so dense? "I can't believe how long it took me, but now I remember. Almost everyone in the palace called you that in the beginning." Harumi's pleading look turned from me to Lloyd.
"Lloyd, I have no clue what she means. I-"
"How did you know? About the mask?" Lloyd questioned, cutting her off. He straightened beside me as he awaited her answer.
"It's an Oni Temple. It's safe to assume only an Oni could take it." Harumi explained as she took slow steps towards us, almost as if she was afraid to provoke us more. But I knew better by now.
"No. How could you know that I was part Oni?" Lloyd pushed. With him saying out loud, the realization washed over me. He was part Oni? I glanced to him, but he didn't return the look.
"You're related to the First Spinjitzu Master. He was an Oni." Harumi said with a nonchalant shrug. Lloyd pulled the mask closer to his chest.
"I never told you that. I never even told (y/n) that." Lloyd argued. "Jay and I were alone when Mystake told us the story. You were never there." Harumi stopped in front of me, only a foot away.
"Then I must've heard it from Jay." Harumi tried with a smile. I heard Lloyd step back behind me.
"I don't want to believe it, but I think (y/n)'s right." Lloyd said. I frowned as Harumi crossed her arms. I didn't want to believe it either, that my sister was the one who tore our lives apart for this.
"How could you say that?" Harumi hissed, her smile dropping into a pout.
"It all makes sense now. The greatest villain is the one you never knew was there in the first place. You said that." Lloyd murmured. Harumi took another step.
"Oh, yes, I'm the criminal mastermind. How could I have done this? Do you realize how silly both of you sound? (y/n), please, you're just tired and not thinking right from all of these near death experiences. I... I love you. Please." Harumi pleaded, reaching for me. I swallowed down my tears, not wanting to give into how her voice cracked, how I still cared so much for her despite the things she had done. It made my guilt catch in my throat, but I couldn't let it resurface now.
"Stay back." I said, my voice low as I pushed her back. Harumi only made it a couple steps back before she caught herself.
"Lloyd, she's not herself. Listen-"
