《Brother of Wind {book 6: Skybound}》chapter 12

"One more round of palm ties, and I'd say she's secure enough for sea." Lloyd exclaimed as he leaned back to wipe his face. The remaining Ninja had started to build a raft. They gathered materials and made tools from the resources on the island.
"Why is it all sea vessels are shes?" Nya asked, holding a hammer.
"I don't know. Because it takes a lot of paint to make them look good?" Cole said, making him and Lloyd laugh out loud. Nya smacked the hammer on her hand. The two stopped. Morro covered his mouth and giggled.
"What, you too?" Nya asked.
"A bit. Much lighter than what came to my mind." Morro replied.
"What?" Nya asked.
"Men treat women like objects."
"Ah."
"Okay, lighten up, water lily, windmill." Cole said.
"I get it. My personal mission to rid the world of its prejudices is wearing thin." Nya said.
"Ugh, Morro, your words are wearing off on people." Cole sighed.
"Hey, uh, did anyone take my ties?" Lloyd asked.
"Not me." Cole said.
"I didn't touch them." Nya raised her hands. Morro just shook his head.
"Huh. I could've sworn they were right here. All this sun must be baking my brain." Lloyd laughed.
"I'm going back into the jungle to collect some more." He ran off.
"Okay, listen." Cole started.
"I think the real reason sailors name ships after women is because we name them after the most important people in our lives." Cole turned to the cluster of wood. "Mothers, wives, sisters, the people we trust to protect us when life gets choppy."
Morro turned head and walked to get some more materials.
"But Jay didn't trust me." Nya told Cole.
"Why didn't he tell me he saw a future with me? Even if I never believed it, if he told me, all of this could've been avoided." Nya sat down.
"He was too afraid you'd reject him." Cole said.
"Sure Jay made some bad choices, but it's like Lloyd said, if you want something bad enough, you find a way to make it happen. Plus, there are too many things that could've been avoided by doing one thing differently." Cole shrugged at the last part.
"After all we've been through, I never thought you'd be the one sticking up for him." Nya said.
"You're a good friend."
"Wrong. I'm his best friend."
Nya smiled and looked around herself.
"Huh. Where's my hammer? It was right here." Nya said. Cole saw the sand shift.
"Whoa! Did you see that?" He asked.
"See what?" Nya asked, standing up.
"There's another. There's two of them." Cole jumped up and pointed.
"I think I know why things around here go missing." Cole said.
Morro ran at full speed towards Cole and Nya, sliding to stop.
"Off the ground. NOW!" Morro shouted. Cole and Nya jumped on the raft, as Morro jumped on a nearby rock.
"I see them now." Nya pointed.
"I think we need to be quiet. I think they're attracted to noise." Cole whispered.

"HEY, GUYS! LOOK HOW MANY PALM FRONDS I FOUND!!" Lloyd walked out of the forest, leaves in his hands.
'LLOYD, OFF THE--'
A large beige worm creature sprouted out of the ground and cried out.
"Are you kidding me?!" Lloyd yelled, dropping his palm leaves and using Airjitzu to get to a tall tree.
It resurfaced to dive onto Cole and Nya. They jumped off the raft, inlay for it to be destroyed.
"There goes our raft." Nya sighed.
"Just another day at the beach." Cole said. Lloyd and Morro jumped down to the ground, avoiding a charge from the worm thing and made their way towards Cole and Nya.
"This way! To higher ground!" Lloyd pointed to a spiked rock upwards from the sand. The boys ran to use Arijitzu, Nya jumped after them, a deep blue sphere surrounding her.
"Hey, you just did Airjitzu for the first time." Lloyd said.
"You want something bad enough, you find a way to make it happen." Nya said.
"All good, nice, cool, sorry to downplay, there are more things on this island trying to kill us." Morro said.
"We need to get off this island." Lloyd said.
. . .
Jay moped the deck as a seagull flew over and wrecked his progress.
"Ugh. So that's why they call it the poop deck." Jay sighed. Monkey Wrench screeched.
"That's your side of the story, Monkey Wretch. The way I see it, I can use my free time as I like." Clancee said.
"Clancee's right. Just because there's a new low man on the totem pole, don't mean Clancee has to give up swabbing the deck." Flintlocke said.
"Thank you, Flintlocke." Clancee said.
"It relaxes me. I told you I was in the right." He and Monkey Wrench left.
"The crew listens to you." Jay told Flintlocke.
"Nadakhan is a good captain. My job is to just make sure his ship runs smoothly." The Gunner replied.
"But how do you make sure everything runs smoothly when your captain doesn't tell you everything you need to know?" Jay asked.
"Oh, yeah? Like what?"
"It's nice of you all to help him make this world…" Jay started.
"Djinjago is for all of us." Flintlocke started to get defensive.
"Maybe. But how long do you think he'll keep you around when he gets infinite wishes?" Jay gripped his mop.
"Everybody knows, Nadakhan don't get no wishes and ain't nobody can wish for that." Flintlocke continued time deny Jay's claims.
"That's not what he told me. After a Djinn prince marries on Djinn land, he gets it all." Jay replied, saying what Nadakhan had told Jay.
"And I've seen how he looks at Nya, reminding him of his Delara. But what do I know? Heh, I'm just the low man on the totem pole. You've helped him build so much. I'm sure he'll need you around when he can wish for anything." Jay turned around.
"But listen to me. The crew listens to you. If you're gonna stage a mutiny, now is the time. Before he's all powerful. Don't let him take advantage." Jay whispered.

Flintlocke tilted his head.
"What lies is our little canary whistling now, hmm? Perhaps another ploy to escape?" Nadakhan drifted up.
"It's true. He's the one that's lying. He told me everything at dinner." Jay pointed.
"Right, and I have trouble shooting water in an ocean." Flintlocke said, making him and Nadakhan laugh.
"Oh, we're being too hard on our guest. Perhaps it's time we involve him in some of our on-ship entertainment?" Nadakhan said.
"You don't mean Scrap-N-Tap, do you?" Flintlocke asked.
"Uh, what's Scrap-N-Tap?" Jay asked.
. . .
"Heh. Uh…" Jay was pushed into a ring surrounded by the sky pirates.
"The rules are simple. May the best one win. Let the scrap begin!" Nadakhan yelled. The sky pirates laughed and cheered.
"Take this thing off and let's make this a fair fight!" Jay shouted.
"Fair? Haha. We're pirates!" Nadakhan laughed.
Monkey Wrench landed a firm kick on Jay, the ninja falling back and the ball and chain fell on his stomach.
"All right, you had your fun. I'm tapping out. Who's next?" Jay asked, getting up and making his way to the edge of the ring.
"Oh, no. The loser doesn't tap out, only the winner does. You have to stay in until someone else loses. Who's next?" Nadakhan exclaimed.
Doubloon stepped in. The fight was quick. Jay fell.
"This may go on all day, unless you want to wish it all away. Just say the words and it'll all be over." Nadakhan leaned into Jay's ear.
"Bring it on." Jay smirked.
"Next."
Dogshank approached Jay. This was a long night.
. . .
When all the sky pirates were asleep, Clancee went to Jay's cell.
"Well, you have to eat." He handed a plate to Jay.
"I'm not hungry." Jay said, turning to the dark.
"You f-fought really well. You held your own like a real pirate. You should have this to look the part." Clancee dropped something to Jay.
Jay turned around.
"An eye patch?" He picked it up.
"Just like what I saw in my future. It's all coming true." He muttered.
"Psst. You always talk to yourself?"
Jay turned around. Flintlocke.
"Only when I thought I was by myself. What do you want now?" Jay shot out.
"Maybe you're right. Maybe he doesn't need us after all of this." Flintlock whispered. Jay's eyes lit up.
"But the only way we're gonna stage a mutiny is if we can get his sword away from him. You think you can handle that?" Flintlocke asked.
Jay scoffed.
"What am I supposed to do? I'm the one locked up down here." Jay said.
"Wait until he's asleep and make your move. We'll be right behind you." Flintlocke dropped a key and disappeared.
"Flintlocke? Flintlocke? Ha!" Jay let himself out, and made his way to Nadakhan's room. He entered Nadakhan's darkened room and grabbed what he thought was the sword. It turned out to be fake and the lights turned on.
"I told you we'd be right behind you." Flintlocke said, the crew laughing at Jay.
"Well, I was wrong, he did fall for it." Nadakhan said.
"Yeah. Even I'm not that pinheaded." Clancee said. Jay sighed.
"If we're all up, I guess we have time for another round of Scrap-N-Tap." Nadakhan raised his hands. The pirates cheered.
"That is, unless you want to wish it all away. Huh? Go ahead, make your wish." Nadakhan said. Jay started to get angry, but he didn't utter a word.
. . .
"All right, we've finished the raft." Lloyd leaned back and sighed.
"Again." Morro added.
"Now all we gotta do is get it to the water." Cole stood up.
"Leave that to me." Nya said.
"While you were working on that, I was working on this." She pulled a rope and a catapult fired some coconuts. The worm creatures seemed to be attracted to it.
"They're distracted! Go!" Nya shouted.
"It's working!" Lloyd shouted. Karma hit and the Ninja's luck streak so far is just getting worse. The catapult malfunctioned.
"Aah. Coconuts? It stopped working." Cole said.
The Ninja flipped the raft up and hit behind it.
"The raft isn't gonna protect us much longer! We can't get to the ocean!" Cole shouted. Morro turned to Nya.
"What?" She asked.
"You're a Water Ninja! Come on!!" Morro shouted, raising Nya's hands.
"Oh, right!!" Nya shouted. She controlled the water to bring the raft out to the main layout of the ocean.
"You did it!" Cole shouted.
"Yeah, but the raft is too damaged. It's falling apart." Nya said, the wood breaking away.
"Oh, no! I can't touch water!" Cole shouted.
"Yes, we know." Morro said.
"Anytime you wanna get back, say so." Morro started to take out his staff.
"Oh, we're never gonna get off this island!" Cole shouted.
The sound of helicopter blades approached the Ninja.
"Anyone need a lift?" Ronin shouted inside the cockpit.
'Whoa! It's Ronin! Oh, I don't think I've ever seen a more beautiful sight." Lloyd said.
"Oh, by golly, we found you." The Commissioner said.
"How?" Nya asked after they all climbed into the copter.
"We learned you chartered a boat. Following storm patterns, we looked--" A man, Simon started.
"Uh, detective work, ma'am. We're detectives. We detect things." Tommy replied.
"Wait. Did you come all this way to arrest us?" Cole stopped.
"Arrest you? Oh, gosh no. We came to rescue you." The Commissioner said.
"After you saved our city from the sky pirates, we finally realized whose side you're fighting on. I was wrong to distrust you. That's on me." The Commissioner tipped his hat.
"You should've given us a trial." Morro blankly stated.
"PFTT--" Ronin covered his mouth.
"Sorry."
"Oh, yeah. We got a message from Jay." Ronin held up a bottle.
"Don't say it." Lloyd said.
"It's cliché." Morro said.
"Come on."
"What say we get him back?" Ronin said.
