《Brother of Wind {Book 7: Hands of Time}》chapter 3

The Ninja gathered in the Temple of Airjitzu.
"Ah. Another cup please." Wu said, lowing his cup. Morro took it and held it out for Misako to pour the tea in.
"Okay, but drink it slower this time. Healing Tea doesn't work on a burnt tongue." Misako said. Morro handed the cup to his father. He quickly drank it.
"Wow, slow down." Morro said.
"Sip! You are quite impatient." Misako exclaimed.
"The same could be said of them." Wu pointed to the Ninja who seemed restless in their places.
"Okay, Master Wu, you've had your tea. Now can we talk?" Cole asked.
"Ask any question you wish." Wu said.
"Who did we fight in the monastery?" Cole asked.
"That was Acronix." Zane said.
"From the painting?" Kai asked.
"Twins look alike!" Lloyd exclaimed.
"Or was it Krux?" Nya asked.
"Is he from the future?" Zane inquired.
"How does he speed up time like that?" Kai asked.
"Was he from the past?" Cole assumed.
"Who ate my pudding cup?" Jay asked. The others stared at him.
"What? He said ask any question. I put my name on this. Just because we're in a new dojo doesn't mean we disobey the refrigerator rules!" Jay exclaimed. Jay got more glares.
Wu sighed at all the questions.
"Acronix, yes, yes, because they're identical, no, no, Time Blade, yes and...." Morro pointed to Jay.
"I'm pretty sure it was Kai." He finished.
"DUDE!" Kai exclaimed.
"How did you remember all those questions?" Nya asked.
"Wait a minute, we should be asking you all the questions!!" Cole pointed to Morro.
"Like, why'd he call you 'little wind' and can I use that?" Cole asked.
"No. I answered the easy questions because I'm not that capable of remembering in full detail." Morro said.
"Well, to explain in detail, I must begin at the end." Wu said.
"It was many years ago, shortly after the Serpentine Wars. When I was a much younger man. As you know, we fought valiantly, but our enemies were strong, and our powers alone were not enough. It was the discovery of the magic flutes that allowed us to finally defeat the Anacondrai. Their leaders were banished. And peace was returned to Ninjago."
"It is done, brother Garmadon." A younger Wu sighed in relief.
"Indeed, Wu." A younger Garmadon exclaimed.
"Today, Ninjago is finally at peace. A great victory." Wu stood in the monastery and turned to his allies.
"And one we could not have achieved without each of you, the Elemental Masters. Smoke, Metal, Lightning, Shadow, Fire, Water, and Time!" He exclaimed.
"Hold on a sec." Cole interrupted.
"So that guy at the monastery is an actual Elemental Master of Time?" Cole asked.
"No. Acronix was an Elemental Master of Time, like his brother, Krux." Wu said, sipping his tea.
"After helping us win our hard-fought peace, they betrayed me, Garmadon, and the others. The so-called Hands of Time felt they controlled the most powerful Element, therefore entitling them to rule all of Ninjago." Wu said.

"What did you do?" Nya asked.
"We had to stop them. And it would take all of us. Garmadon, myself, and every Elemental Master." Wu said.
"Even our parents?" Kai asked.
"Of course. All of your parents and ancestors." Wu said. Morro closed his eyes and tilted his head, sighing.
"Kai, Nya, your mother and father were great fighters, but it appeared even they had met their match." Wu said.
"Acronix was a skilled warrior, one of the best I've ever seen, but his real power was his ability to control the forward movement of time."
In the past, Kai and Nya's parents attempted to fight off Acronix but the man kept avoiding them.
"By sending himself forward, he was always ahead of the action, as if he had super speed."
The Master of Fire threw a flaming projectile forwards but it was caught in a bubble of light blue energy.
"However, a slow progression can be just as dangerous. Different power, but equally effective."
Krux, the other brother, attacked the two masters.
"One Master of Time was bad enough, but like the hands on a clock, there were two."
The Master of Gravity jumped in front of Lighting, attacking Krux. He was beginning to get the upper hand, changing the gravity center in Krux and pushing him away.
"Krux's power was the opposite of his brother's. He could reverse time. It's a huge advantage in combat. Know your opponent's next move, know how to counter it."
Krux's hands glowed yellow and it was like the world was a tape on rewind. And this time, he hit Gravity back, then the Master of Ice stepped forwards.
"He could even control time to the point of halting it. Of course, he didn't halt himself."
Surrounding Ice was a red barrier of energy, stopping him in his tracks.
"They're unbeatable, brother! How do we stop them?" Garmadon questioned.
"I don't know. Time is the thread that sews the fabric of the universe." Wu exclaimed.
"And it appears that they have all the needles." Garmadon said.
"Control time..." Acronix started.
"...control everything!" Krux finished.
"We knew we had to prepare. Fearing that next time, we would not be so lucky."
. . .
"The wait is over! The future has arrived! The BorgWatch. Launching today." Cyrus Borg announced on screen.
"Incredible. A wall-mounted window to display thirty-second dramas!" Acronix exclaimed towards the tv. Krux turned the tv off.
"Those dramas are called commercials. Cynical films playing off of consumers' insecurities to convince them to purchase that which they do not need." Krux said.
"So cool. I am jealous, brother. You got to experience the last how many years of progress. Hot beverages at the touch of a button, a beadless abacus, instant communication." Acronix exclaimed.
"Worthless. All of it." Krux waved his hands.
"I absolutely despise modern life." He sighed.
"But it's filled with wondrous things we couldn't have even conceived of years ago! Like this amazing thing." Acronix pulled up a BorgPad.

"A BorgPad. Vile contraption!" Krux accused.
"I got it at the museum gift shop. A piece of glass that performs music." Acronix pushed a button.
"Ninja, go! Ninja, go! Come on, come on--"
"Creates a permanent visual record of any event." Acronix took a photo of Krux.
"There's even games!" Acronix exclaimed.
"I hate those infernal devices most of all! Everyone perpetually plugged in, distracted like infants by bright lights and sound." Krux exclaimed.
"Yes! Smashed all the candy!" Acronix shouted. Krux growled.
. . .
"You said the Hands of Time were unbeatable, yet you beat them. How?" Lloyd asked.
"The way one often defeats an enemy—by taking away their weapon." Wu said.
"But their weapon was Time." Zane reminded.
"Indeed."
"Are they done?" Garmadon asked as Wu ran up the steps of the Monastery.
"They are." He opened a bag.
"Here they come!" Garmadon exclaimed.
"Our only hope was four blades, hastily forged from Chronosteel...the Time Blades."
Garmadon and Wu pulled out two metal gauntlets each, as Krux and Acronix approached. Wu took on Acronix as Garmadon took on Krux. The elder brothers jumped onto the roof, with Krux attacking more aggressively and Garmadon raising his arms in defence. Garmadon kicked Krux back and pinned his arm down to the wood with the forked blade of the gauntlet. Garmadon looked down to see Wu struggling. He released Krux and went to Wu's aide.
He jumped in front of Wu to block an attack and they touched gauntlets as thanks. Wu jumped to the room, both times the Time Twins followed. Wu hit down Acronix and knocked back Krux. He took a deep breath and gained balance. Wu fended them off but then he was hit to slide down the roof, just grabbing the ledge. Garmadon stepped in and kicked Krux off the roof. Wu jumped down, followed by Acronix and Garmadon.
The sons of the First Spinjitzu Master were on both side of the time twins. Wu took away Acronix's first blade, Garmadon getting rid of Krux's, then soon both blades were down.
The Hands of Time charged up. Wu and Garmadon prepped their blades. Then, fire.
"Chronosteel is the only metal that can absorb Elemental Energy."
The Time Blades were now powered with the four powers of time, glowing that colour.
"Stripped of their powers, Acronix and Krux were just two ordinary men, easily subdued. But the ability to control time is too great for anyone to possess. Garmadon and I knew the Time Blades themselves were a threat that had to be eliminated. Forever. We created a temporal vortex to dispatch the Blades in time, where they would be lost to the ages."
With the blades pointed towards the sky, it opened up a vortex. Wu and Garmadon sent both sets of blades into the sky.
"But Acronix and Krux refused to admit defeat. They thought they were more powerful than time itself."
The Twins broke free from their restraints and jumped into the time vortex. Not to be seen.
"So, what happened to them?" Cole asked.
"Krux disappeared into time itself, and I knew Acronix was going to return yesterday, so I waited. He was the remaining loose end to tie. Now he is no more." Wu said. Misako helped Wu off his chair and towards a bed.
"You mean, like, permanently?" Lloyd asked.
"Never my intent, but it was his fate. Now Acronix is gone forever, along with that Time Blade. It took over a decade, but the Hands of Time will never again threaten Ninjago." Wu lay down on the bed.
"Oh, one question. How did you know Acronix was going to return to the monastery at that exact moment?" Lloyd asked.
"Why didn't you ask for our help?" Jay asked.
"How many Elemental Masters were there?" Zane asked.
"Can we make Time Blades?" Cole asked.
"Our parents, you said they were there." Kai said.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Morro finished.
Wu was sound asleep now.
"No more questions for today. Your Master fought a powerful enemy. He needs time to recuperate." Misako pushed the Ninja out of the room.
"Hey, i just realized...the mural we saw at the museum. That must be the battle Wu just told us about." Cole said.
"But Dr. Saunders said the Hands of Time were a myth." Nya said.
"Well, myths come from legends and legends are often true. Which is worrying." Morro sighed.
"History is art, not science. Even an expert such as Dr. Saunders can be mistaken from time to time." Zane said.
"Right, we just busted a myth! Haha!! Uh, speaking of which, Morro you were there too?" Jay asked.
"Yes." Morro said.
"What did you do?" The others asked.
"Chose what side of destiny to be on. The light." Morro said.
"Refused a really bad deal because I care about people. People Acronix was going to hurt." He crossed his arms.
"Yeah, well we totally beat him! Except now, there's nothing to do." Kai sighed. The Ninja began walking down the stairs.
"Hm. The temple still needs unpacking." Lloyd said, leaning on the railing and pointing to the boxes.
"Lloyd's right." Cole sighes.
"Ugh. Kinda wish we hadn't busted him." Jay reached the bottom of the stairs.
"Hey, Nya. Wanna hang out?" He asked. Nya smiled.
. . .
"Aw, yes! Slice that fruit!" Acronix exclaimed, still playing on the BorgPad. Krux took it away from him.
"Hey!" Acronix exclaimed. Krux showed him a helmet.
"What's with the getup?" Acronix asked.
"Soon, we shall return Ninjago to its pre-modern glory." Krux exclaimed.
"Yes. Heh. I like that." Acronix laughed, reaching for the helmet.
"It's not for us." Krux pulled the helmet away, walking towards a take substituting for an incubator. Habiting a great threat to come.
