i remember the moment i arrived at your funeral. i dressed in all black like they had told me to. i guess i didn't realize that after the suffering, everyone would return to their normal states. they would continue to walk around in their white clothes and pretend like you never existed.

but i couldn't be like everyone else. even as time went on, the image of rain pouring down on your casket lived in my head and your laughter still followed me everywhere i went.

because even though you were gone, your ghost became a part of me. it would sometimes wrap me up in its arms and hold me while i was lost in the dark, whispering for me to let you go.

and darling, the truth is that i never could.
