Chapter 31
Inside the wooden house in the cold weather, deafening silence began to surround the two who are inside. Shao Ling just remained to stare at him, looking bewildered and clueless. While Lian Ren just looked at him from afar, his brows were softened, his eyes getting wet, as if he would cry any time. The sound of the streaming water became louder and the flutter of the bird's wings was heard in the ceiling.
In the midst of the silence, Shao Ling eventually started to walk past Lian Ren, hiding in the tall screen as he slowly remove his clothes. He didn't even ordered Lian Ren to get out because he needs to change. Shao Ling was at loss. Because of the song, he was unsure of what to do after knowing his past. And why did the Village Chief wants him to know about it? Shao Ling will be fine even if he didn't hear that song.
The fate will continue, it will be up to you.... Shao Ling doesn't even know what that means. Does it mean that his fate is still not finished? Of course, that will be the case because he's still alive but it was as if there was a hidden message on that song, as if it was singing it to him indirectly because it can't perhaps tell him the words directly. If that's so, then what kind of destiny will come to him in the future? Is it the good one? Or the bad one? Shao Ling had no idea because the hidden words in the song were incomplete, as if there are still missing, things that even the pond didn't know despite it was being blessed by a God.
After Shao Ling wore another pair of plain white robe that he layered with the outer robe with blue clouds embedded on it's hem from the Yun Sect that he left behind in the house, Shao Ling widened his palms and pressed it to his robes that are soaked wet. He infused spiritual qi in it to freeze every particles of water from the fabric then shook the ice away, leaving the Yun Sect robes dry again. When Shao Ling stepped out of the screen, he noticed that Lian Ren was still standing afar from him, it didn't even moved in his position. It was just staring at him, his hands were slightly trembling and his lips were pressed together.

Shao Ling asked with a frown,
Shao Ling was taken aback when Lian Ren suddenly kneeled in front of him, his forehead were pressing on the floor as if he was kowtowing him instead of simply kneeling. Shao Ling stood quiet at he stared down at Lian Ren, looking troubled and bewildered at the same time. It wasn't that long when he heard Lian Ren spoke,
Shao Ling was even more confused. What is it trying to say? Did it perhaps harmed a person here in the Blue Dawn Tribe? Is he asking him for hell about something. Shao Ling was frustrated because Lian Ren didn't even finish his words. Shao Ling with a straight face, hiding his confusion and troubled expression.
Lian Ren closed his eyes as he continued speaking,
Shao Ling frowned even more,
Lian Ren raised his eyes, there are teardrops trapped on the side of his lid as if he was trying not to shed his tear in front of him. Lian Ren bit his trembling lips and continued to speak,
In a blink of an eye, Lian Ren was slammed on the wooden wall of the house, leaving a large crack and small debris falling on the ground. Lian Ren raised his gaze at Shao Ling who was staring at him with bloodshot eyes. Shao Ling's cheeks were flushed red, his brow were deeply frowning and his lips were presses tightly while his azure blue spiritual qi was surrounding his whole body, especially to his right palm.
Shao Ling yelled, the spiritual qi on his right palm was staring to compress even more, making it a small energy ball.
Lian Ren insisted as he immediately stood up, but was knocked back by Shao Ling again. This time, the wooden wall was broken and Lian Ren was slammed through the wall, his body falling on the pile of snow.
"Nonesense! Don't talk to me anymore!" Shao Ling yelled, his cheeks flushed red even more.
Lian Ren immediately stood up, running after Shao Ling who was walking away with a raged expression.
Shao Ling yelled again as his feet started running.
Meanwhile, at the tree where children gathered on the black furball, the black furball just watched the two running around the village with an exhausted expression.
Lian Ren kept calling out to him but Shao Ling continued running. Because of Lian Ren's impatience, he subconsciously infused spiritual on his feet and spread out his arms as he jumped on Shao Ling's direction, catching him as they both fall on the ground. Shao Ling shouted, struggling on Lian Ren's grasp.

Lian Ren whispered on his ear, hugging him tighter. Shao Ling froze and didn't even turned around. He knew that when he turned around, his face and Lian Ren's will definitely brush each other. Just thinking about it makes Shao Ling's heart beats faster because of nervousness.
Lian Ren pleaded. He rested his chin on Shao Ling's right shoulder and hugged him tighter to the point that their bodies are almost becoming one, as if Lian Ren has no plan on letting him go.
Shao Ling was bewildered. He pushed his body forward so that he and Lian Ren will have a space for each other but Lian Ren pulled him again in his arms, making his back lean on Lian Ren's chest. Shao Ling said, pushing Lian Ren's chest as his other hand tried to remove Lian Ren's arms on his waist.
Lian Ren didn't even listen to him. He started muttering words as he hugged him tighter, repeatedly apologizing to him for some reason that he doesn't even know why.
This time, Shao Ling didn't say anything. All of a sudden, he felt his chest gettinf heavy, as if he was in deep pain and resentment. As Lian Ren repeatedly apologize, his chest gets heavier, making it hard for him to breathe. Shao Ling, who was in daze, unconsciously lowered his hand on his stomach, gently caressing it without knowing a reason why. It was as if he was used on doing it from the start, but he knew to himself that there are no memories materializing on his head, like everything was just pure illusion.
Shao Ling took a deep breath to calm himself down. He withdrew his hand that was caressing his stomach and turned his head around, Lian Ren's grieving expression greeting his sight. Shao Ling said in a straight expression, leaving Lian Ren speechless. Shao Ling said. Shao Ling removed Lian Ren's arms on his waist and stood up, started walking back towards the village.
Lian Ren watched Shao Ling's back as he walked out of the forest. He was right. In the first place, Lian Ren was reborn, and nothing happened between he and Shao Ling yet. So it was obvious that he is not pregnant. However, the memories of the past, the blood coming from Shao Ling's stomach, and the lifeless child kept haunting Lian Ren's mind. He might be apologizing to Shao Ling because of his selfishness, as well as his driven emotions just so the memories won't stop haunting him anymore. But that was not the case. Shao Ling suffered. He knew that he let Shao Ling suffered in his past life, however, his plans changed as soon as he was reborn. Shao Ling never did anything to him. In fact, he completely changed.
Lian Ren can't help but to embrace Shao Ling once again. If he wasn't driven by his bitter revenge on his past life, he and Shao Ling would've made a wonderful family, bearing his child on Shao Ling's tummy. It would've been wonderful.......and happy. But Lian Ren can't turn back time. It was all too late. However, what Lian Ren only have now was the chance, the chance to make everything right. The chance to make up for his mistakes and wrongdoings that he did to Shao Ling. Lian Ren slowly stood up, heaving a breath and also walked back to the Blue Dawn Tribe with a determined expression. Shizun.....
As soon as Lian Ren arrived, Shao Ling was already on the gate of the village, followed by the people of the tribe gathering on his direction. The Village Chief was also talking to him, handing him a box with a golden pill inside,
Shao Ling responded.
The Village Chief handed him the pill.
Shao Ling accepted the small box of pill and glanced at the Village Chief in bewilderment,
The Village Chief answered.
Shao Ling didn't respond but he still put the pill inside his spatial ring.
The Village Chief gave him a sweet chuckle,
Shao Ling frowned in confusion.
the Village Chief exclaimed, giving him a sweet smile.
Shao Ling glanced at Lian Ren who was taken aback, he tossed Lian Ren's Yun Sect robes and spoke,
Lian Ren replied, wearing the Yun Sect robes as he ran to Shao Ling's direction. The black furball that was surrounded by the children also followed them with a breath of relief,
the Village Chief yelled as he waved goodbye but Shao Ling responded with a roll of his eye.
Lian Ren called.
Shao Ling replied.
Lian Ren asked.
Shao Ling answered.
Lian Ren responded, taking a step sideward so that he can get closer to Shao Ling.
Shao Ling cut him off with a sharp tone.

NEVER SPLIT THE PARTY: The Adventures of The Creeping Bam (BOOK ONE: The Job)
TAO is a broken world held together with nothing but magic and the will of the gods who protect it and its people. Then thousand years ago THE SUNDERING struck and Tao was almost torn apart by a terrible magical cataclysm which resulted in the planet almost being halted in its journey through the cosmos. It took all the power the gods of Tao could muster to restore its orbit and set it turning again, but in their efforts it was forever changed – its axis was drastically altered, and it now spins in such a way that one face of the world is forever turned from the sun it orbits, leaving half the planet in perpetual darkness. The various humanoid races that survived and now thrive within the habitable parts of THE DAY LANDS have come to live in perpetual fear of what lives beyond THE BORDERLANDS that separate them from whatever dwells within THE NIGHT LANDS, but for ten millennia it has kept its secrets. The land of RUNDAO languishes under the rule of their warlike Northern neighbours, the TEKTEHRAN EMPIRE, while a small, ragtag band of motley adventurers ply their mercenary trade fighting monsters and protecting the common man from the various dangers that haunt the night and prowl the hinterlands on the edges of civilization. THE CREEPING BAM have amassed a modest reputation in their years together, but they’re still just a small-time party of sellswords, thieves, outcasts and mages. They’re also exactly the kind of underdogs the people of Tao doesn’t yet realise are needed to save the world from the encroaching darkness they doesn’t even know is coming … This is a love letter and homage to the high-fantasy worlds of the tabletop RPGs like Dungeons & Dragons, Pathfinder and Warhammer and the sword & sorcery cinema and literature I fell in love with as a kid growing up in the 80s, from Robert E. Howard’s Conan the Barbarian (and the awesome Schwarzenegger movie, STILL my favourite fantasy film EVER), The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit and Ron Howard and George Lucas’ Willow, to the more grown-up and edgy worlds of grimdark masters George RR Martin and (my all-time favourite) Joe Abercrombie, as well as a BIG DOLLOP of Terry Pratchett’s immortal Discworld series. IMPORTANT: This story contains material which some readers may consider to be mature, such as battle violence, some strong language and occasional mild sexual scenes. If this is not your kind of thing, this story is not for you. I am also serializing this story on Tumblr, Wattpad, Quotev and Sweek.

Flashback: Siren Song
The year is 1969. Yancy Lazarus—bluesman, gambler, future world-class mage and fix-it man—is just a dumb, unlucky kid serving with the 3rd Battalion 3rd Marines in Vietnam. With just a few weeks left to go until Yancy gets shipped back to the States, he’s just trying to keep his head down and avoid a body bag—no mean feat in Nam. But when his squad is tasked with conducting a routine patrol deep in enemy territory, everything goes to nine kinds of hell, and he quickly sees his chances at survival slipping away. When the radio operators start to pick up some funky, dirty ol’ blues all the way out in the backcountry, it’s a nice change of pace. At least until the men in Yancy’s squad start losing their minds, turning on each other with murderous intent as the music works its deadly power within them. Convinced it’s some kind of new psychological warfare initiative, the squad leader forces the men to push deeper and deeper into the Vietnamese jungle, obsessed with locating the music’s source. What they find, however, isn’t some new technology, but an ancient spirit awoken by the terrible war. Even worse, the music is changing Yancy too, awakening something buried inside of him. Only one thing is certain, nothing is ever going to be the same.See how it all began … *** PRAISE FOR SIREN SONG:Hunter's writing is as low-down, gritty, and insidious as the blues Yancy Lazarus loves. Just like the mysterious music drifting through the jungle toward Yancy's squad, Siren Song will get under your skin and sink its hooks into your mind. —eden Hudson, Author of Halo Bound (the Redneck Apocalypse series) *** Hey everyone, this is James Hunter. This story isn't a full length novel--its a novella length work (25K words), and is part of my Yancy Lazarus series. Its already free on Amazon, so I thought I'd post chapters here for the good folks of Royal Road.
