《Dark Lord》Chapter 46

Xi WeiLong grasped the piece of paper in his hand tightly. Honestly, he was a little hurt. He was expecting his sister to betray him, but he didn't expect that she would do it so soon. His little sister was always fickle-hearted, and that was dangerous. To think that she would do such a thing without anyone finding out, he had to applaud her. But with that, he no longer needed to be careful. After all, she personally burnt the bridge between them, now, even if he were to kill her, he would be in no wrong. Of course he loved her, she was his sister, but he loved his mother more.
His mother was his life and the Dark Lord had took her away from him when he was just a child. Even thinking about it now made his heart burn with fury.
"Your Highness, they have come." His trusted guard, Shu Fei whispered to him. After all, this was a top secret mission. Xi WeiLong had no idea if the Dark Lord had sent spies, or if his dear sister had left spies here helping her out.
"Tell them to come in," Xi WeiLong replied, putting down the piece of paper in his hand.
He sat in his throne and waited for their appearance. After all, with their help, he was for sure going to win this war. They were his most powerful weapon and he was going to use them to win the war.
With the sound of footsteps, Xi WeiLong turned his head towards the entrance, a smile on his face.
"Welcome, thank you for coming to meet me. I know that it must be hard for you, but still, it means a lot for me to see that you have agreed on this matter with me." Xi WeiLong spoke as he showed them a place to sit.

"Crown Prince of Fuyin, Xi WeiLong, although we have agreed to help you in this war, what are the benefits given to us? You are asking for us to go against someone who was once our person, and you out of anyone, should know how powerful he truly is. Even if we unite with the most powerful people in this world, there is still not a sure chance of us winning. The Dark Lord is someone we can never expect to fall. You know that too, don't you?" JianTang said, MeiRin and Mo Wan by his side. His eyes looked into Xi WeiLong's, harshness within them.
Xi WeiLong only kept his smile on in return. "Of course I know. I know well that the Dark Lord is nonetheless, still your child. But I also know that you have already turned your backs on him the moment you agreed to meet me. This war will be tough, but I already have the help of many sects to help us out. If you and your Sect join, though you have few people, your people are stronger than most of those in the sects. Even if it is little, this could be a chance for us to win and help get rid of the Dark Lord forever."
"Xi WeiLong, how can you be so sure that we won't betray you? After all, I'm sure that our name does not mean goodwill to your people, especially other people in the Five Nations. Isn't that why we were feared when the Dark Lord was still not around? Or are you saying that the people will accept as easily as your words speak?" MeiRin, who had been silent beside her husband, spoke up.
"But people's heart can change easily. They fear those who are stronger than them, only if they are the enemy. Once they have someone strong as their comrade, their feelings will easily change. This is the way of life, and this is the way humans are made to be. Humans are born with a heart that can change easily, even if it is just words, they will change their hearts faster than one can think. That is why humans are one of the most deadly creatures upon this world. Because they can betray someone they call a friend, but they can also befriend someone they call a foe." As Xi WeiLong spoke these words, his eyes glinted a cold light.

But that is true.....
Humans heart remain one of the most unknowns of this world. For how can someone betray their kin, betray their friends, but befriend a foe? Because fear, makes them different. Because of power, power that can change their hearts.
Because of greed and selfishness, because they wish for something so much, they are blind to what they would be giving up.
A lifelong friend, someone who has been by their side for the longest anyone has been, can easily be betrayed if they are exchanged for something that is worth more in the heart of someone else.
This world, only the strongest can live in. Only the most selfish people will be able to survive, because they wish for more and more. If they aren't strong then their selfishness will keep them alive until they are defeated by someone stronger than them.
Because someone selfish will not bat an eye to sacrifice the people closest to them to the predator that is waiting for a prey.
That is why Xi WeiLong can easily change someone's mind. Because he knew these things, and he knew how to persuade people into changing what is written in their hearts. That is why he had rose among mounds of skeletons.
Mo Wan closed her eyes as she thought about these words. But she wouldn't waver with the decision that she had already made. What she had given up, who she had betrayed, it was all her decision.
But her heart began to hurt as she thought about this.
Her beloved brother, was he truly dead now?
She had left him, left her sister as she stepped forward for her greed. Her greed to find someone to love, someone who would love her in this world.
And although she had achieved that, she had given up two of the most important people in her life.
Maybe, she was selfish after all. Maybe she had always been hiding it behind her words of lies.
But she couldn't fix her mistake, and she wasn't willing to give up what she had already accomplished.
She knew.....she knew from the start, from when she first met the man she loved, she already was willing to give up everything for him.
So even if it takes more sacrifices, giving up everything she had, she was willing to.
After all, wasn't that love?
Wasn't love always a question of giving up everything you have for the person you love most?
"The Shadow Sect will be willing to help you, Crown Prince."
With that, neither side could turn back......

How the Stars Turned Red
Announcement as of 05 July 2022: I've been diagnosed with some pretty severe nerve damage in my left arm, rendering me unable to write effectively, and as such this story is on hold until it is healed. I am so sorry, and I promise to get back to writing as soon as possible. In the latter half of the 3rd millennium CE, humanity has spread across the stars, inhabiting close to five-hundred worlds across the Orion Arm. Earth has become irrelevant, a historical has-been. The galactic map is dominated by two mega-factions, both controlling vast amounts of territories either through direct control or through their many allies and treaty signatories. The Kingdom of Aurora is the political and economic hegemon despite consisting of only seven inhabited worlds; their strength lies in the Royal Union, an interstellar commonwealth composing an internal market and a common defence pact. These member worlds are myriad and varied, culturally as well as politically, but they all flock to the same banner. The Independent Systems Alliance, spearheaded by the Republic of Elysium, is the ascendant challenger to Aurora and the Union. A pseudo-federal multi-system polity, the Alliance economy and military is rapidly expanding, but at the cost of effective democratic and meritocratic involvement by its people. However, with two superpowers as this, chafing along a common border, and with a constant clamour of polemics, both sides have become convinced the other is constantly preparing for war and are on the look-out for any perceived weakness in their opponent. The predictable result is a huge arms race and a cold war spreading across the stars, requiring only a spark to set the galaxy aflame. Drawn into this game of high stakes are ordinary men and women, their peaceful lives, hopes, and aspirations swallowed by the vortex of conflict and distrust. This is their story. Cover art by Rhodex Designs (FB). Hope you like long chapters and adjectives. Note: English is not my first language. Another story set in the same universe, written by a good friend

LIlith's Firstborn
The legend says that the Forbidden Fruit made the first two humans – Adam and Eve – intelligent, but what if it was the other way around? What if the Forbidden Fruit took most of their humility, their intelligence, their kindness, etc. away and turn them into the discriminating, angry, and hateful humans that they are? What if the only way to turn back into their former selves was to lead a good life on Earth to cleanse their souls? The legend also says that Lilith was a demoness who fled from Heaven and was granted mercy when she showed humility and proved that her soul was still worthy of saving despite all her wrongdoings. What if, after centuries of sinning, Lilith finally found her way back to kindness? What if God forgave Lilith for her crimes? What if she gave birth to a baby after she had repented? And what if that baby is the only human soul in existence that isn’t tainted by the Forbidden Fruit or her past sins? Tallitanya of Lilith inherited her mother’s immortality and grew up at a rate much slower than an average human so she had witnessed the rise and fall of empires even though she is physically and mentally 21 years old. She was born on Earth, but she moved to Heaven when she was physically 5 years old and didn’t return until she was 18 years old. She was tasked, by God himself, to guard over the Forbidden Tree which had since been replanted on an isolated island on Earth. She loves that job, and she loves that she was given direct instructions instead of having to figure out what God’s so-called ‘mysterious plans’ for her was. Centuries went by. Tallitanya is 21 years old when the Final Judgement is nigh. As an immortal who has yet to have a real affiliation with Heaven or Hell, Tallitanya has received a personal invitation from the Antichrist who wishes to recruit Tallitanya. Heaven also sends its angel – Michael – to inform Tallitanya that as a human, her soul would also be judged by God. She was ordered to leave her post as the Forbidden Tree’s guardian so that she could get to know the other humans before she makes an actual decision about who she wants to align herself with. The second she steps out of the island, it disappears. Turns out, her message from God was faked, and so was her mission. The devil had tricked her, and as the guardian of the Forbidden Tree, she must recover the tree and the island, or humanity will perish within the year.
