Mel
Everything about the Woods screamed wealth, with the woman currently standing in front of me smiling being no exception. It was a level of wealth I had never experienced before, something that I thought was reserved only for celebrities or reality tv stars, although I guess Mr. Woods did fall under this category with his short stint as a pro football player.
"Mom, remember I said I was bringing a friend home? This is Melanie." Hunter introduced he pulled me to his side with our hands interlocked.
Mrs. Woods didn't miss this gesture, as she quickly eyed our hands before looking back at me with a big smile across her face. I didn't know her well enough to know whether or not it was a genuine smile, but something told me that, despite how polished and perfect everything about her was, the smile was not just for show.
I smiled back at her politely before reaching out my hand, "It is nice to meet you, Mrs. Woods. Thank you so much for having me."
Rather than grab my hand to shake, I was pulled into a hug as she said in a thick southern accent, "It is so nice to meet you, honey. And please call me June." Her show of friendliness took me aback at first but also helped calm me down. They aren't some rich stuffy family, there was no need to be intimidated.
"Ya know, you are the first girl Hunter has ever brought home to meet us. I was starting to think it was never going to happen-" She was promptly cut off by an embarrassed Hunter, "Well mom thanks for that, I think I am going to go show Mel her room."
I laughed lightly at the little blush that formed on Hunter's cheeks as I waved goodbye to his mother and followed him through the living room to a large staircase. "I swear that woman has no filter sometimes, and she never fails to embarrass me." He said causing me to smile again.

"Embarrassing her children is a mother's job!" I exclaimed as I continued to follow him up the stairs and down the hall. As I said it though, I felt a slight pang in my chest. He had no idea how lucky he was to have his mom around to annoy him. But of course, I wasn't going to say that.
We eventually stopped our walk through his seemingly never-ending house as we approached a door. As Hunter opened the door and I followed him in I came to realize it was his room. I didn't know what to expect from Hunter's childhood room, especially as the decoration at his room at school consisted only of a frat flag on one wall and a school flag on the other, but this room was much more put together. Pictures of a younger him playing football scattered the walls while his trophies decorated the shelves. While I was busy looking around, I noticed that he had put my bag down next to his on his bed. "I'm not like staying in here right?" I questioned.
He made his way toward me with a smirk on his face, "would it be so bad if we were?" He questioned as he put his arms around my waist and bent his face down to give me a slow kiss.
This kiss was effective in distracting me but as we pulled away and I came back to my senses, "Hunter, what are your parents going to think?" We had obviously shared a bed before but it felt different being at his parents' home. It made me think what my dad would say if I tried it at my house, but I had never even had friends stay the night let alone a boy so it was hard to imagine.

Hunter placed his hands on my face and looked me in the eyes, "Don't worry, they trust me. All they are going to think is that I have found a girl that makes me incredibly happy. They will love you." He leaned down to give me another kiss before playfully adding, "Plus, I promise to be on my best behavior. Although I do know you have a hard time keeping your hands to yourself."
I laughed lightly as I swatted his arm. This boy always knew what to say to put me at ease, but also never seemed to run out of somewhat crude jokes. In reality though, sometimes I did have a hard time keeping my hands to myself when I was around him, but of course, I would never tell him that.
"Now we need to change, it is only 12:30 and we still have a big day ahead of us." I had no idea what he was referring to, but I knew with Hunter Woods it would be nothing short of amazing.

The Forgotten Hero
Long ago, in the world of Thyne, the Alliance of the Free Races, a name they had given themselves, summoned a hundred humans from another dimension. Praised as heroes by the people, they rejoiced that they had been able to acquire pure, mana deficient humans that wanted to aid them in their time of need, ignoring the black, archaic slave collars around their necks or the depressed, almost hate-filled expressions that they received when interacting with them. After Ten years of bloody war, the dark races were pushed back deep into their territories. Both sides were near breaking point and desperate to end the war once and for all. In a bargain, the twelve surviving heroes launched a high-risk mission, utilising advanced tactics from their home world to kill the Demon Lord. In exchange, they would be sent home, along with the magically preserved corpses of their comrades, though in truth, they knew that even if they returned, they would never be the same. Legends say that, upon ambushing the Demon Lord in his castle, they finally understood the plight of the world, and in the last act of heroism, sacrificed their lives, sealing him in an eternal prison so his essence would not be able to create another. With the loss of the Demon Lord, and no chance for another to be born, the dark races quickly surrendered and the free races celebrated, honouring the noble sacrifice of the heroes before quickly forgetting about them as they returned to their everyday lives. However, legends are rarely truthful, embellished by the victors in order to earn praise as well as hide the less desirable aspects of their deeds. Trapped in the Demon Lord's throne room inside the Demonic Palace, which even taking a single step on its desecrated grounds is punished by death, two figures remain motionless. They had long run out of insults and threats to trade and now they waited. For what, not even the Gods knew.

A coming-of-rage urban fantasy novella centering on the mental health journey of Arthur Silva. It follows his struggles with self-worth, and his interpersonal relationships between his family, friends, coworkers and partners. This novella is in it's first draft so if it's a bit rough around the edges that's why. I just want to get some feedback on it as well as what's working. Each chapter can be very stylistically different from each other as a means of separating the different months that each chapter takes place to better put the reader into the headspace of Arthur.
