《The Pharaoh's Dancer》Fighting for Love

"You'll pay for this."

Amunet had intended for the words to come from her mouth but instead they came from someone behind her.

Amunet spun around and felt a wave of relief wash over her. Runihura stood behind Amunet with his hands extended out in front of them causing the wind to storm around them. Lighting struck the sky violently and the ground beneath Amunet shook slightly with the rage that seemed to be dripping off Runihura. He clenched his hands and slowly lowered them to his side. The scenery around them remained black, however, and Amunet felt a shiver course through her as every hair on her body stood on end, whether because of the electricity or fear she wasn't sure.

"How did you get in here?" Mut screamed taking several steps back. "My barrier should have been strong enough to keep anyone from interfering."

Runihura ignored her as he bent down to check on Amunet. He examined her skin and hands and ran a hand along her reddened cheek where Mut had slapped her.

"I did recall some resistance as I tried to pass into this place but it wasn't anything major," Runihura said straightening and finally facing Mut. "You seem to have forgotten Mut, but I am still the son the most powerful God in the universe."

Mut laughed slightly and motioned to the mound of rock where Amun laid sealed.

"That great father of yours lies there buried beneath my enchantment," Mut's face glowed and a terrible smile tugged at the corner of her mouth. Runihura looked at the spot she'd motioned to and frowned before turning back to Mut.

"Again, Mut you seem to have forgotten something important," Runihura said again this time more slowly. Mut's face seemed to falter only slightly. "My father adores Amunet more than anything in this world. He was more focused on protecting her rather than fending off you. He is, however, unaccustomed to fighting in such a way and it is no surprise that you were able to catch him off guard."

Mut opened her mouth to speak but was silenced by a strong and cold wind that slammed against her body knocking her several feet back.

"So you're saying that you're stronger than me?" Mut said trying to regain her balance. She no longer appeared domineering in front of Amunet but rather furious and uncontrollable.

"No, rather I believe I'm more intelligent than you," Runihura said simply. Mut gritted her teeth and gripped the dagger in her hands tighter. Amunet brought herself up onto her knees and stood slightly behind Runihura who seemed almost consumed by a vortex of wind. "It didn't take long finding the weakness in your barrier but it was tedious destroying it without noticing."

"You believe yourself smarter than me?" Mut asked in a very monotone voice and after a long pause. She appeared to be trying to keep her temper.

"Yes, very," Runihura responded patiently. "I've seen through you since the beginning Mut. I knew all along how jealous you were of my mother. I, however, didn't have the power to stop you at the time and no one would listen to a child, so I had to watch quietly as you plotted against my mother. It started first with you enchanting my father into loving you right after you bewitched the entire realm into believing you were sent by the universe as my mother's replacement.

"Then you began distorting the minds of those you worshiped my mother so that they slowly forgot about her which greatly weakened my mother's powers. Then you schemed some more and plotted some more until you'd completely taken everything from my mother." Runihura paused and seemed to be straining himself to stay calm. "By the time I was finally able to do something it was too late."

Mut and Runihura said no more and instead just stared at each other. Amunet felt her stomach twist and coil and her voice got stuck in the throat the longer she stared at Teremun's motionless body. Amunet was just about to move towards him when a strike of lightning and thunder clattered across the sky and the ground shook again. Amunet turned back to Runihura only to find him gone. Her eyes immediately shot around her surroundings until she found her sun hundreds of feet above her.

A long and slender sword was clutched in his grasp and it reflected the storm around it in a dazzlingly sort of beauty. Amunet's eyes shifted to Mut whose dagger had grown into a full length sword. Each time their swords met, a wave rumpled through the land causing Amunet to lose her footing. She tried to keep up with the battle but their bodies moved incredibly fast and the sound was almost deafening. Amunet pulled her eyes from the death battle and felt her legs instantly carrying her towards Teremun. She was inches away from him when a heavy thud rang out behind her. Amunet spun around quickly to see Runihura laying in a massive crater on the ground. She could hear him groan painfully as he tried to sit up and reach for his sword but it had been thrown several yards away from him. Mut landed in front of him gasping for air. Her hair whipped around her face chaotically and she looked mad in the light of the sky.

"If only I could kill you," she breathed in gasps. She clutched her stomach with on hand and seemed to be trying desperately to keep herself standing. "But it doesn't mean I can't hurt you."

Amunet wanted to scream but instead she was running again. Swiftly, Amunet pulled Runihura's fallen sword into her hands and lifted it to her chest before posting it in front of her. Mut, distracted by Runihura and her exhaustion, didn't see the sword and Amunet until it was too late. The blade pierced through Mut's chest spraying the Goddess' blood over the hilt of the sword and Amunet's hands. Mut's eyes went wide and more blood errupted from her mouth and ears. She looked ready to stumble back but Amunet kept her standing.

"But," Mut said slowly coughing up blood continuously. "How?"

"I'm human now, remember? Or I guess I should say I'm half human. I've been both a Goddess and a human in one lifetime. I think the universe as decided I'm something life a Demi-God now which means..." Amunet said forcing the hilt of the sword deeper into Mut's chest causing her to shriek in pain. "I can kill you."

Mut's eyes darkened and the light slowly faded from her face. Amunet withdrew the blade from Amunet's chest and Goddess hovered for only a second before falling backwards and laying in her blood that spilled out around her like a steady stream. Amunet's breathing became ragged and she felt the sword in her hands slip and fall heavily to the floor. Her knees crumbled under her but instantly Runihura was behind her to catch her. Runihura too seemed too stunned to speak and just stared bewildered by Mut's corpse.

Amunet steadily regained her footing and turned to where Amun was sealed. With Mut dead now, the seal slowly began to dwindle. The back rocks began to crumbled and a blinding yellow light pierced through the cracks until the encasement shattered. Amun stood up groggily and looked around at his surroundings. He took in Mut's dead body along with Teremun's before his gaze fell onto Runihura who had Amunet pressed to his chest. He was at their sides instantly and seemed torn between asking what happened and just remaining silent.

Amunet slowly broke away from Runihura's arms and began staggering towards Teremun. Her legs gave out again as she reached him but she could hardly feel the dirt cutting into her knees. Amunet felt a wave of sobs rise up into her chest before violently ripping from her chest. Amunet's cries shook the skies. As she sobbed she pulled Teremun's head into her lap and held him close to her. Amunet rocked back and forth slightly as her tears cascaded down her face.

"Amun," Amunet sobbed. "Can't you bring him back?"

"You no I cannot do such a thing," Amun said quietly as he sunk to his knees next to her. The area around them remained silent and still except for Amunet's cries that threatened to consume the land. Amun reach a hand around Amunet and brought her into his arms as she continued cradling Teremun. He felt his heart break with each sob she made until it felt like shattering.

"There is something you can do, father," Runihura said quietly from behind them. Amun and Amunet both turned to look at their son and looked worn and tired. "I've heard about it in legends, of a God reincarnating a pair of humans so that they can be together."

Amunet felt her tears freeze on her cheeks and she looked from Runihura to Amun. Amun seemed to be contemplating something in his head before he finally decided to speak.

"I've never done it," Amun said slowly. "There could be serious repercussions if I don't do it right."

Amunet touched Amun's shoulder softly drawing his attention to her.

"Please, Amun, try," Amunet said gently. "I want to be with him. I want us to live in a world where death does not await either of us around every corner. A world where he and I can be together."

Amun said nothing as he stared at her. His eyes shifted to Teremun and he couldn't help but feel a wave of jealously wash over him. Amun laughed slightly under his breath and felt ridiculous for being envious of a deadman. Amun's eyes shifted back to Amunet and he looked at the woman who he had loved for millenniums.

"I'll try," was all he said.
