《A Tale of Two Opposites (Stryders #3)》Chapter 3- WEST

Wyatt is always at the art room drawing.

My twin is predictable even though I haven't spoken to him in a while, our relationship strained for no reason. We usually are always on the same page, but he's been distancing himself from me, arguing with me and flat out avoiding me lately, I can't help but try to see him.

Living in the dorms is really convenient because there's a short nice trail from the dorms directly to the school that all the wolves used. The building opens at 6 AM even though classes don't start until 7:45 AM.

Football try-outs were at 6:30 AM for all the returning members except me, the captain of the team. Coach didn't think I had to try out, but he wanted to talk to me about something else. I just wish he didn't want to talk to me at 7 in the morning. Before going to meet coach, I was going to see if Wyatt was in the art room. It was in the lower building, and you have to pass a bunch of art projects such as portraits, pottery, some abstract art that was hanging on the wall.

The door to the art room is open, and sure enough, I see Wyatt's back. Where I had short hair, Wyatt grew his out, just barely able to tie it into a short pony tail. Where Wyatt didn't lack in physique, I had more muscle because I worked out every day because of my sports. Where I was good at punching people, Wyatt was good with people. He was better at me in everything. I may have the athletic ability, but Wyatt was artistically inclined.

I watched him for about a second before, "I thought you would have football try-outs today," Wyatt commented, not even having to turn around. Twin telepathy or something.

Probably a werewolf thing though.

"Nah coach didn't think I should try out," I answered. What I wanted to say why he was avoiding me.

"I see."

That was the conversation.

Wyatt wasn't going to say anything more, I feel it.

Not one for long silences I said, "Well, I'll catch you later. Er, Theo wants to go to this party later this weekend." Come on, tell me you want to go. Wyatt used to always go to these parties with me. I'd drag him out of his "art studio" most of the times. Just to hang out with me. Having my twin beside me kept me at ease.

"Alright." Still focused on his painting, I watch him for a moment before wanting to yell at him, scream at him, but instead I turn around, feeling like some part of me is lost and missing.

Why is it like this between us? What is going on with Wyatt that he can't talk to me and I can barely manage a decent conversation with him? Everyone thinks we're okay, and he's my twin brother yet I don't know anything about his life currently.

This isn't how I want to start my morning.

My favorite time of the day is when I see all my friends at lunch. For the past four years at the school, we've had the same lunch.

At our lunch table, Abby sits herself between my best friend Theo and I, leaving the brooding Maddox to be at the end of the table, and Jax to sit between Abby's two other best friend's- Sophie and Destiny. The girls are talking about some book called A Court of Wings and Ruin talking about some guy named Rhysand. What is it with authors nowadays writing such characters that make all the girls swoon over them?

"You have to read it, Soph it's too good," Destiny was saying. Something is trying to claw out of me.

Jax huffed out, "Is this another Twilight?"

"Ugh. Twilight sucked. We don't even want to talk about that," Abby shook her head. "And I need to finish it! So no spoilers!"

As much as I want to quip in this conversation,I'm trying really hard not to alarm anyone because I'm clenching my teeth so hard and my hand is pressed against the side of the table tightly.

My wolf is restless and I'm terrified.

Dad told me as soon as I don't think I can keep my wolf at bay, to call him that instant or to at least tell Wyatt.

"West?" Abby's blue eyes blink up at me, frowning in concern. "You haven't heard a single thing I've said. You okay?"

"You cool bro?" Jax asked.

Even Maddox gives me a grey eyed inquisitive look.

My wolf wants to get out. Which means I need to get the hell out of here. Away from everyone. Standing up suddenly, I give the lame excuse of how I'm not feeling well and sprint out of the cafeteria, towards the small path that leads into the dorms.

No, we're not allowed to skip school, but that's better than my wolf coming out and potentially killing everyone. Dad's advice on how to control this beast is to never fight it, but work with it.

What are you trying to do, Salvator?

I've never felt such vehemence from my wolf to get out like this before. Like Dad, I can't freely release my wolf any time I want. One potential slip up- someone looks in my eyes- I'll turn them to stone.

Once I get in my messy dorm room, the beast is dormant. No signs of wanting to claw out.

I call Dad, but his phone leaves to voicemail, but instead of leaving him a message, I don't tell him about what was about to happen today. It's nothing. At least, that's what I'm trying to convince myself.

There is a text from Abby to be outside of my dorm in 5 minutes, so I do as I'm told, wondering what my childhood friend is up to.

A white Mercedes pulled up, and Abby called out to me, "Get in loser, we're going clubbing."

In the car, Abby, Jax and Destiny all look at me expectantly.

I open my mouth, my tongue sticking to the side, pondering, "Do I have a choice?"

"Not at all," Abby gave me a sweet smile.

"You totally ruined the whole vibe we were going for," Destiny pursed her lips.

"I'll get in, I'll get in," I sighed, opening the car door while the entire car clapped and cheer for me being extra, which bought attention to some of the other wolves walking around. I looked back at them and waved a hello.

Abby convinces me to go out in the town and go to clubs where the supernatural lurk. "I need to let loose before cheerleading try-outs," Abby was saying to me. She also invited Jax and Destiny over, not realizing how much my poor man Jax would spend all night just trying to get close to her.

"You'll be a great captain," I assured her. Destiny agreed with me.

"Ugh. Co-captain unfortunately, but thanks." Abby turned her attention to me. "And you're captain of the football team, right?" Jax laughed at this, making me want to kick him. "What?" Abby looked at the both of us. "Am I not getting something? West?"

"If West gets into a fight..." Jax trailed off. "Well, Coach Wheeler said he'll be temporarily suspended."

"Why is that so funny?" Abby asked.

"How long do you think it'll take West to get into a fight?"

"Shut up," I sighed, "I'm not going to get into any fights anytime soon."

"You better be," Abby warned me. "You can go on without a fight, West. You just need to stop punching everyone."

"Kind of hard to do given who I'm around all day," I shrugged as we entered the club, the only lights being the annoying neon flashing kind. There is already a group of dancers in the middle, but our group finds some place to sit. As we're making ourselves comfortable, one of the cheerleaders, Haley is eyeing me.

Haley gives me a sultry look, and gives me a coy smile before she walks away. She's hot.

"Haley? I think you can do better," Abby snarked.

"Hmm....like who?" I asked her, grinning as I wrap my hand around her shoulder. Abby bit her lips for a second before shoving my hands off her shoulder.

"We all know no one here is good enough for you," she yawned. She's right, no one is. Only my mate is the one for me. Abby decides to join the dance floor with Destiny and some human guy is trying to dance with her. Jax is sulking in the back somewhere getting a drink. I stand up and scan the dance floor to see if I can join anyone. Maybe even Haley. I love dancing.

"Stop it," I hear Abby tell the guy who's getting too close to her. I know Abby could rip this guy into shreds, but I decide he isn't going to move until I come in, and step between them.

"I think the lady asked you nicely," I told him, shooting him a glare. The guy gulps and scurries.

Abby seems to enjoy dancing by herself when the human leaves. I raise my hand in the air, letting the beats of the music dictate my moves. Abby laughed as I do the Moonwalk.

"Why are you such a better dancer than me?" Abby groaned.

"I'm good at everything," I winked at her.

"So modest," she mocked me, but she kept smiling. "You needed this after today."

I gave her a fake smile, "Yeah, I guess I did." Truth was, I needed to figure out what Salvator wanted from before. My wolf hasn't wanting to be coming out violently for a long time so why now.

The next day, Jax call it quits for school because he went too hard, and Abby asked me if I was still coming to school in which Theo got hurt he didn't get invited last night, so our group chat is Theo dramatically leaving the group and then asking me to add him back.

Having Maddox walk with me to lunch is great because we can have totally comfortable silences. Maddox is the only one who will give me quiet and peace when I want to think. Literally. Being mute since he was a pup because of the abuse of his mother, and not many wolves learning sign language, I made it my mission to learn it thoroughly, so I was one of the few who knew and who Maddox was really comfortable being around. Otherwise, he'd have to type it down on his cell phone which most of our friends made him do. Most of everyone made him do.

I come to a halt in the middle of the hallway, making Maddox turn around, signing rapidly: Are you okay?

As my wolf is just seconds away from clawing his way out of me, I close my eyes shut as a distinct enticing smell hits me.

Oh, crap.

I quickly sign to Maddox to go, and he hesitates for a second before nodding his head and leaving me. I turn around to search for the scent. There's no way my wolf or I can calm down. My wolf is trying to shift so he can go to his mate. I will him to calm down, pushing him back so he wouldn't shift. We'll find our mate, I promise.

Her scent was already making me go crazy- it was surely making my wolf already go mad. Yesterday, that was the reason my wolf was acting restless.

This time, she wouldn't get away from me.
