《Out of Place》Old Tribe Legend

"This should be quick," The man with the fierce green eyes stated, lifting his sword which was painted red along the side, preparing to take down the final trace of impurity. The final trace of humans and ancients mixing. The world was about to be set back to the way it should have been. Pure and clean.

The last person left was no more than a small child. The kid appeared less than ten years old. He was small, he didn't appear powerful yet, and he was down on his knees sobbing after just seeing his brother and mother die. Never had the tribe's leader seen someone weaker.

A part of him did feel bad for the kid. The way this child shrieked as the same sword he was holding now was brought down on the child with white hair was so loud and pain-filled. However, the man with green eyes didn't care too much. After all, he didn't see this child as a child. He saw the kid as a parasite to the world. A mere fly that needed to be swatted.

After this day, tribesmen would surely tell tales of that day's victory over the violent, cruel group of impures who had a sadistic goal of ruining the global balance and peace of that dimension. This would be a grand victory for the Tribe of Darkness, remembered as the day heroes like himself saved the dark. For in the dark people thrive. The dark is safe, for evil cannot see.

He hoped this child didn't take this attack personally. It was truly only happening to maintain the balance of the world. Before this town of mistakes and runaways formed, the children of the tribe were happy. Everything was perfect until a few of the tribesmen lost track of their priorities, their heads were turned by a species so horrible and bewitching. Humans... who used their skills of manipulation to turn their heads away from the tribe. This was merely a step back toward that perfect world.

These impure disasters threatened not only the tribe's traditions but the darkness itself. Children like this one, their mix of light and dark eliminated the night for half of the day, allowing the sun to rise over their home in this dimension, which wasn't supposed to ever happen. This was a dimension of darkness, after all. That was why this man was leading the tribe in this attack. It wasn't because he personally enjoyed slaughtering people. It was just what had to be done. He didn't enjoy killing people. He enjoyed bringing the world back into balance.

And with one final swing of the sword, that would be what this world would be brought back to. He prepared to swing, feeling the eyes of the rest of the tribesmen on him, waiting for him to be the hero when it happened.

The child, the weak, powerless, grieving child who appeared to have no magical skill suddenly looked up at him, his eyes two different colors and filled with nothing more than hate and devastation. The child and the man with green eyes held eye contact for a moment, two polar opposites.

The child then vanished as if it was nothing. The man's eyes went wide and he quickly rushed forward to where the child was. "What?" He exclaimed, furrowing his eyebrows and looking around.

He felt his heart rate begin to accelerate as he looked around, trying to see where the child teleported to. It couldn't have possibly been far! Teleportation was a difficult skill for children to master.

"... Find him. He couldn't have gone far," He commanded, looking around at his fellow tribesmen, who had finished up their tasks and were coming to him, looking for further instruction.

The tribesmen spent the next two days searching for the child, but he was never found. It was as if he simply vanished. However, no matter how many times the tribesmen claimed that this hunt was useless and that this last child wasn't going to be found, the man with the deep green eyes refused to give up. With each hour, he seemed more and more desperate to find the child.

"Sir...?" His second in command, a man with blue eyes and blue skin asked.

"What is it now?" The man with green eyes asked, pacing and rubbing his temples.

"...The men don't think we're going to find the child. We need a leader back at the tribe. We cannot just spend our whole lives searching. We need leadership back at home. Perhaps if you sent a team out to look for the child and came home-" He suggested when the tribe's leader held his hand up, silencing his fellow tribesman.

"I am aware we cannot continue this search like this..." He breathed. "But I am not going to send out a team. I told the tribe I would see this through. I am not returning until the little impurity is found and killed," He stated blandly.

The second in command frowned slightly, cocking his head to the side. "Alright... but what about our tribe? They need leadership back home."

That's when the man with green eyes stilled, then unhooked his cloak which had the pin that stated his position of tribe leader on it. He took the cloak off and handed it to his second in command, smiling slightly.

"I cannot allow this child to roam free. Him, being half-human/half-ancient, could have the power to kill us all. He is far more powerful than he seems. I need to find and stop him. I need to do this. To protect our family, to protect our home, to protect all of you," the leader stated.

"Sir?" The second asked.

"You take the lead until I get home," The man with green eyes said. "You'll make a fine leader. I trust that you'll hold the tribe's ideals close to your heart and make me proud until I return. Besides... your son needs a good role model. Seeing you as the tribe's acting leader while I'm gone could be an amazing eye-opener for him."

The second in command looked down at the cloak with almost awe, then looked up at his leader, almost looking saddened. But he knew better than to argue with his leader. This man he was looking at was a hero in his eyes. He was the one giving up his position to bring the world back into balance.

"I'll make you proud," Is all the second in command could say, smiling slightly and bowing his head as a sign of respect. He then turned, taking his old cloak off and putting the tribe leader's cloak on, walking over to the other tribesmen and telling them what their next steps were.

The man with green eyes silently watched as his tribe marched off, leaving him behind. He waited for them to all leave sight, then turned away, marching forward in search of the one child who escaped. The last trace of impurity in this world.

After that, he disappeared, never returning to the tribe. Some assumed he died, others assumed he was still searching, refusing to go home until he fulfilled his promise and found the child. He wouldn't return until he restored his dimension to its former glory.
