《Mermaid Origins》Run Away

I huffed in frustration, as my dad was lecturing me. King Zaro, the King of the Sea. I'm one of his sons, and heir to the throne, Brandon. I'm seventeen, turning eighteen soon. I was chosen at birth to be the future king, because of some prophecy! I don't even want to be though! I don't understand why Ritchie or Mario can't be. They're both older and wiser then me. I would happily let one of them take my place, but no! I have learn more, train more, and learn to be proper. The only good thing is that I learn about humans more. I find them interesting. My father finished his rant about being a good king then let me go. I went to me and my brother's shared room.

When I got to our room, I flopped on my bed. No one else was in the room at the time. I started to feel like I was letting everyone one down. All I do is mess up. I can't do what my dad does, I can't even talk to our subjects. Maybe I should just run away, I thought. The more I thought about it, the more I liked it. Yes, I thought. I will sneak out at midnight and run away. I better get some sleep, if I'm going to do this though. I laid down and soon fall asleep.

I carefully sat up, making sure that my brothers were asleep. I swam out of my seabed, swimming quietly to each of my brother's beds. I gently brushed my youngest brother's hair out of his face, Jakey. He is sweetest and most kind person you will ever meet. He's fifteen, with a light blue tail. It ranges from sky blue to a baby blue. I kiss his forehead in a goodbye.

Then I swim to my second younger brother, Mitch. He is really sweet, but doesn't like to show it around people. He is sixteen, a year younger then me. His tail is black with dark purple patches on it. He loves to train and is a hard worker. He dreams to be the general of our army someday. I squeezed his hand gently, then moved on.

I swam to my first older brothers bed, Mario. He's two years older then me, turning twenty soon. He has a grass green tail with brown spots on it. He can be stern but is very caring in his own way. He taught me how to write and read when my teacher couldn't. I knew he is a heavy sleeper so I hugged him. He didn't even stir.

I felt something roll down my cheek as I swam to my oldest brother, Ritchie. Turning twenty-one soon, he has a personality that can make the darkest room brighten. He was the one who taught me to laugh and love. He is very silly , but when the time is needed, he is a resourceful leader. He has a dark blue tail with flecks of yellow mixed in. His bandanna hung loosely from him messed up hair. Unlike Mario, he is a really light sleeper. I wanted so bad to hug him, but I didn't want to wake him.

I swam over to my personal desk and pulled out a piece of paper. I wrote all my feelings down explaining why I left. I grabbed my shell necklace and put a picture of my family in it so I wouldn't feel so alone. I swam back to Ritchie and placed my crown, the note and a bracelet that we made together when we were younger on his bedside. The bracelet is my most prized possession so I giving it to him.

Crystal tears ran down my face as I get ready to swim out the window. Until I heard, "Brandon?" I turn around in fright. Ritchie is looking at me curiously and worried. "I'm sorry..." I whisper before I bolted out the window. I ignore Ritchie as I heard him calling me, trying to get me to come back.

I swim faster when I hear Ritchie calling out for guards. I spotted an cave to hide in. I hid in it and watched the guards pass from my hiding place. I breathed a sigh of relief as I see them fade into the distance. I cautiously creep out of my hiding spot and took off in the opposite direction of where the guards were going.

I swam for almost a day before I had to stop because I was exhausted and couldn't swim anymore. I stopped in a coral reef and rested on a rock. I laid down on the rock and stretched in the sun that filtered into the water. I grabbed a piece of coral to nibble on. I will have to find a real meal later, I thought as I closed my eyes to enjoy the sunlight. A shadow soon fell over me.

I opened my eyes to find a ship above me blocking out the sunlight. Since I'm the next king, I know more information on humans then most mermaids do. I didn't realize I was so close to the surface, I think to myself. I sat up and looked at it. It was a huge boat from what I could tell. I watched in awe as a anchor fell from the boat and hit the bottom of the ocean. I felt a weird urge to touch it.

I shook my head and laid down again. I couldn't do that. My gaze traveled to the main ship and I smirked. But it wouldn't hurt if I touched the bottom of the ship, right? I got up slowly and swam upwards to the main ship. I stopped a few inches away from it.

I raised my hand up and brushed it along the wood. It felt smooth and slimy under my touch. A small smile graced my lips. It felt so.... good. I swam around to the front of the ship to look at it more. It has a wooden curved mermaid statue on it. I wanted to touch it too, but it was above the water and I didn't want to go above the water yet.

The ship jerked suddenly. I was confused until I looked at the surface. A storm was brewing above the ship and the waves were get higher. Crap, Dad is mad and the sea is reacting with his rage.

A/N: Hey there! It been awhile....sorry life stuff. Anyway, I hope you liked the first chapter in this book. I wanted to get it out sooner but life happens. Bye, Wolf Pack!
