You weren't rich. You weren't some big shot popular girl at school. You were just the average nerd, with geek glasses and a passion for books. You lived with your aunt since your parents had died in a car crash 4 years ago. Your aunt didn't want you to end up in an orphanage, so she adopted you and treated you like her own daughter.
Right now you were trying to study in the school library for an upcoming exam, but it felt impossible to concentrate. Your mind kept wandering off to your crush, Alex. Yep. Your crush was Alex. She was one of the popular girls, but she wasn't snobby and boastful about her riches like the others. No. She was the complete opposite of that. She was sweet, kind caring and not to mention smart. Her personality is what drew you two her.
In fact, that's what you look for when looking for a romantic partner. It didn't matter what gender the person was, as long as they had a nice personality, you liked them.
And that was the case with you and Alex. You didn't tell anyonr about your crush though. And you certainly weren't going to confess to your crush either! No no no. I mean, there's no way a popular girl like her would like a nerd like you, she'd have much higher standards than that. Besides, she probably wasn't into girls anyway.
Those thought's plagued your mind, which made it hard to study or pretty much do anything. Sighing, you turned away from the vase you were staring at in your daydream and focused your mind back onto your page.
The test was literally the next day, you needed to pick up the pace.
Suddenly, a someone's voice distracted you from reading."Uhh, hey, I was wondering if you knew where the science books were?" You looked up and your heart nearly stopped. It was Alex! The Alex! Right there, in front of you, smiling. You had to stop yourself from having a heart attack right then and there.
"Umm, uhh, y-yea! G-go r-right from here and take two lefts," you said, quickly standing up and pointing down a hall of bookcases. You couldn't blame Alex for asking for directions, the library was huge."Thanks! Before I go, what's your name? You probably already know me as Alex from the popular group," "I-I'm Y/N. And y-y-yes, I do know you from the popular group," you managed to stammer out with a blush on your face. Alex just asked for your name!
"Nice name! Well, I'll see you later, thanks again for the help!" she yell-whispered scurrying away. You watched her as she disappeared into the maze of bookshelves.

Realizing you were sweating a bit, you wiped your face with your sleeve before returning to your studying.
*Timeskip to the next school day*
You were relieved. The test hadn't been as hard as you expected and you were sure you had gotten good marks.
Now it was lunchtime and you were walking down the hallway, to the cafeteria.
Bump
You felt yourself walk into someone and you fell to the floor. "Oh! I'm so sorry! Here, let me help you! Oh, it's you, Y/N!" It was Alex! Again! And she remembered you? You didn't spend time to rejoice another encounter with your longtime crush as you took her outstretched hand,"Y-yeah. It's me, Y/N, sorry for bumping into you," you apologised, sheepishly rubbing the back of your neck.
Alex accepted your apology saying it was alright and asked if you wanted to have lunch with her. You nervously and hesitantly accepted. On one hand, you knew the other popular girls would not approve of you hanging out with Alex but on the other hand, getting to eat lunch with your popular crush isn't an everyday opportunity.
You followed Alex to her table once you both retrieved your lunch trays and sat down. Immediately, all of the girls' disapproving gaze fell on you. What you didn't notice though, is how Alex shot them all a hard glare in return.
Other than that, you enjoyed lunch with her and nearly burst out of excitement when she asked for your number. You eagerly gave it to her and went home with a huge grin on your face.
"Hello sweetie! How was school today? And what's gotten you all smiley like that?" Your aunt questioned as you entered the household."Oh! Auntie, I ate lunch with Alex today and she asked for my number too!" You responded,"Your longtime crush?" Your aunt knew of your crush on Alex since she was the one you trusted most and told everything to.
You nodded your head as you sat down to eat the delicious soup she had prepared for you.
Alex was just as happy as you were when she asked for your number, in fact, that was something she wanted to do for a long time! The truth was, Alex had a massive crush on you for as long as she could remember. When she first arrived at your school, you were the first one to help her out.
She also greatly admired your intellect as well, which was the inspiration for her continous studying and the reason she was so smart now. To her, everything about you was perfect. Your face, body, personality. And anyone who said otherwise should rot in hell.
Alex opened her phone and went to her gallery to admire the pictures she had taken of you during the school year. Yeah, she had secretly been snapping shots of you when you weren't looking. You were just too beautiful!

Alex was obsessed with you. She knew everything about you, your full name, age, where you lived, your family members, everything! She even knew of your crush on her too. Yup. She didn't miss the blush on yoyr cheeks everytime you talked to her, or the unusual stuttering. And she was fixated on making you hers one day.
*The next day*
You were minding your own business in the your favourite place, the school library, when suddenly, one of the popular girls, came up to you. You recognized her as Akaya. She didn't look happy and you gulped. Her presence alone was intimidating and her she was, right in front of you.
"Hey, your the nerd that Alex brought to our table right? Well, let me cut to the chase. Don't think any of us want you here. We only let you sit with us cuz Alex wanted you to do so. So don't get the idea that a stupid nerd like you could ever, ever, be one of us," she spat in your face in a hushed voice since it was a library after all.
"B-but, I—" you tried to say something when Alex's voice sounded from behind you,"Excuse me, Akaya, what did you jusy say to Y/N?" She asked with a seemingly innocent and wide smile on her face obviously hiding malicious intent.
Akaya practically froze before breaking out of her shock and running away before mumbling something that sounded like 'nothing.' Once she was out of sight Alex turned to you with an expression of worry,"Thank you for...... helping, me back there," you said nervously, flashing a small smile at her. She returned it with a bigger one before walking off.
As she walked away from you she couldn't understand why she was still so angry. So angry she wanted to kill someone. But maybe that was it, what if she did want to kill Akaya? No. That would be stupid. It's not like the girl did anything other than threatening you. A snobby and mean as Akaya was, Alex didn't want to harm them, much.
She sat down on a bench outside of the building and tried to calm down.
Looking up at the sky, her mind went back to you. Soon she was daydreaming of becoming your girlfriend, completely forgetting about the rage she felt just a few minutes prior.
As the days passed, whenever the students or, anyone did something to you that she didn't like, her murderous feelings came back, which she quickly replaced with thoughts of you. You became her way of coping with these urges to kill, yet, you were the one causing them.
It had been almost a month since you and Alex had been interacting with each other and Alex thought it was time to confess. She asked you to meet her behind the school at lunchtime.
You were confused, curious and excited all at the same time. You went to the area you were instructed and there was Alex, waiting for you. You speed walked up to her,"H-Hey! Alex! You wanted me to meet you here? Right? What for?" Upon hearing your voice, Alex's head snapped up,"Y/N! Yeah, I did want us to meet up here. There's something I wanna tell you," she said. You were totally nervous now. What did she want to tell you? Was it good? Was it bad?
Although you were on the verge of breaking into cold sweat, you tried to remain calm. Alex took your silence as a sign to continue,"Y/N. I know it's been only a month sonce we've really known each other. But I want you to know that, I— really, really like you! As in, romantically! Would you accept my feelings?" She tried to sound like if she had no clue about your crush on her.
You were stunned. Did you hear her right? She liked you? Romantically? Alex just stood there, awaiting your response."Alex, I— Yes! I do accept your feelings!" You threw yourself onto her, giving her a big bear hug. This was probably the happiest moment in your life. Even happier than than the time you managed to win the school's annual science contest 3 times in a row.
Alex smiled and acted like she was really happy you returned her feelings. And it was true, she was happy. But deep down inside, she knew what you were going to say. Not like she would admit that though.
From then on you guys were a couple. A secret couple. At least, until the popular group caught her kissing you on your cheek and hugging you in the girls' bathroom.
The group was stunned. They felt, betrayed. Their queen, the one they considered a role model, was in a relationship with a low nerd?
(Their feelings of betrayal were irrational, keep that in mind)
They shouted at Alex, saying things like,'how could you?!' 'You can't be one of us when your with her!' You were scared, what if Alex believed them and left you? But she didn't. Alex stayed ca and said it was fine. She didn't mind throwing away her popularity if it meant she got to stay with you
After all, she didn't want popularity or attention. She wanted

Luck And Chronomancy
Time Magic is the best magic as everyone knows, although there are lots of unique Talents in the world. Most people only remember Haste because it is hard to get to higher Phases of Chronomancy. That is still enough to make the Talent iconic. A lucky enough Aleatory Talent can position you for greatness or leave you languishing in obscurity. The only true equality in the world is when that glowing message pops up at 8 years old. Even if it doesn't activate until you are an adult at 16 you still know. Sure you can find a new dungeon spawn and get another chance at a rare Talent, even this one, but you have to already be ready to delve into the *Far Wilds*, which is far easier with wealth or family power. This is the story of where my good fortune took me and the difference it made, even among a party of 7 others including an Arcanist. It is a journey of magic and monsters but also math, which some think is actually worse. Luckily I was born with Intelligence and Focus as my personal traits, and my parents were scholars. Of course Chronomancy can also be a frontline combat talent. Versitility well beyond other Elder Talents like Gravity, Abstraction, or Arcana. Might could have worked for me, too. I also met a runaway princess. All the best adventures have a princess. She hated being a noble and we didn't get married but it still counts. Besides she really filled out our front line. All that Leadership training came in handy. I still don't know where she's from. Who cares? How well Haste goes with giant hammers is what's important. I never learned much about anyone in the party, except the one I grew up with. I'm not a people person. I just wanted to optimize dungeon clearing time. *******Story Details******* No romance, politics, or traumatizing content, slice of life, or even dialogue. 1st person narration, like a guide/adventure log. 2000-7000 words a day, maybe 40-60% rpgish combat log with some reasoning on combat decisions, with the rest character Talent discussion and progression stuff. 8 person party with a decent variety in roles. Party members usually have 2 primary functions. Told from the support/control Chronomancer's perspective. Each party member will have 6 Basic/Background Traits, then 3 actual Talents with abilities. Capstone from their Educational Institution, Arbritrary as a gift from the temples, and Aleatory which is decided at birth, revealed at 8, and activated after adulthood at 16. Aleatory Traits ignore requirements and are random why is why they are so important. They'll gain new Talents from finding Dungeons to consume in the *Wilds*. Mature dungeons in cities can provide *Challenges* to raise the Phase of a Talent, up to 3 times from 1 to 4. Each character will get to roughly 8 non-Trait Talents. Attributes come exclusive from Talents, are required by Talents, and provide various effects as well. I designed about 220 Talents with abilities, 4 in each of 4 phases. "Traits" are just Attribute stuff. I'm not sure how many will be detailed in the story, more than 100 for sure. I used Talents because I want to be free of the legacy of tabletop. Half those rules are just because of the limitations inherent in a pre-computer ttrpg. This story mostly uses combat Talents, although like 1/3 of the 220 are for crafting and other society and economy stuff. If you really wanted to be a Thief you might take Intuition, Awarness, and Might for Basic Traits and Deftness, Manipulation, and Trickery for Family/Education. Then you'd pick Acrobatics, and Climbing for Educational Capstone and Arbitrary traits. You Aleatory Trait might be Shadow(Light/Dark) Magic, Umbramancy. A Bard might swap Dexterity for Charisma, Music for Acrobatics, and have gotten Illusion(Shadow/Sound(Air/Force)) for their Aleatory Trait.
